Spencer Reid X Reader <3
Autistic Yellowjackets hyperfixated reader!!!
Where Spencer suprises you by watching your favorite TV show of all time and lets you know he loves your rambles :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You never asked Spencer to watch Yellowjackets.
You just talk about it.
Sometimes for so long you don’t notice your hands flapping or your cheeks flushing. Your voice speeds up, words tumbling faster than you can catch them, sentences crashing into each other like waves.
He never tells you to stop.
Never flinches.
Right now, you’re curled up on your bed, your legs tucked under Spencer’s thigh, fingers nervously twisting the strings of your hoodie. His hand is warm, tracing small circles on your knee.
“I think Natalie carries the weight of everything,” you start, voice soft but urgent. “She’s lost so much, her own stability, her faith in herself. She uses addiction and control to try to hold it together, but inside? It’s chaos. And she sees everything - especially Travis.”
Spencer’s eyes hold yours, gentle and patient.
“Travis… he’s a rock, but it’s a mask. The way he takes care of the group - the hunting, the work no one else can stomach and his asshole behaviour, that’s his way of coping. But it’s all hyperfunctional avoidance. Like, he’s holding in this tsunami of grief that nearly drowns him when Javi dies in Season 2.”
Your breath catches. “He’s been trying to carry it alone, and Natalie’s the only one who can reach him over the tough exterior he walls up.”
Spencer’s thumb brushes your wrist. “A trauma bond.”
You nod, blinking fast. “And Misty… Misty’s not a villain. She’s so broken and scared, just desperate not to be alone. When CCoach Ben dies, and she fully breajs down then smiles flatly, it’s heartbreaking. It’s her breaking and trying to survive in a world that’s already ended.”
You tuck your knees closer. “And the wilderness - it’s not just where they’re trapped. It is them. It’s the pain, the fear, the endless unknown. It’s the thing they pray to, fight against, and become.”
Your fingers flutter, and Spencer squeezes them gently.
“They needed to believe the wilderness had a meaning. Because if it didn’t, they’d just be monsters who lost everything for nothing.”
His breath is warm on your cheek. “Do you think there was a reason, like is the concept of the wilderness more then just that of an idea?”
You shake your head slowly. “I dont think so. But its a reason, that’s that keeps them human.”
Spencer’s fingers cup your cheek. “I love hearing this.” Your voice is barely a whisper. “Sometimes I’m afraid I talk too much.”
He smiles, pressing his forehead to yours. “Never too much. I’m listening.”
Unbeknownst to you, he’s already started watching. Taking notes. Preparing to understand what lights up your world.
---
Your birthday winds down. The house quiets. You’re curled beneath the soft weight of blankets, still buzzing with the day’s excitement. Spencer sits beside you, his cardigan sleeves rolled up, eyes gentle and full of warmth.
“I have one more thing for you,” he says softly.
You blink sleepily. “You already gave me the bookstore card and that hoodie of yours I love, AND the candle I pointed out weeks ago at that gift ship, what else could you possibly have?”
“This one’s different.”
He pulls a leather-bound notebook from his bag - the one he’s been filling all week. He offers it quietly.
You open the cover.
YELLOWJACKETS: A Psychological Exploration of Trauma, Survival, and Identity by Spencer Reid In honor of [Y/N], the most passionate theorist I know.
You flip through pages filled with neat handwriting and carefully drawn diagrams.
Sections include:
Natalie: The weight of grief and the cycle of addiction
Travis: Stoicism as survival and the shattering of silence
Misty: Attachment, abandonment, and unraveling reality
The Wilderness: A living metaphor for trauma and transformation
Your fingers tremble as tears fall silently. Spencer’s hand finds yours again.
“Keep reading,” he whispers. You palmed through pages upon pages, some with diagrams and drawings of snapshots from episodes. careful highlights and detailed notes on each charactor, teen and adult. Along with his own thoughts and theories about the lore.
You blink back tears, your body shaking.
He brushes your hair gently. “I watched it all. Late nights, with subtitles and your favorite snacks.”
You laugh through tears. “You really did.”
He nods. “Because I wanted to understand what you see. To talk with you, not just listen.”
You throw your arms around him, breathing catching. He holds you like a safe place.
“I never needed you to watch it. I just wanted you to listen.”
He kisses your hair. “Listening was just the start. I wanted to hear.”
You haf laugh laugh half sob.
He lays you down gently, pulling the blanket over you both. You cradle the notebook like a treasure.
“You know,” he murmurs, stroking your cheek, “I get why you think Travis deserved better.”
“Because he did,” you say fiercely.
Spencer grins. “So, tell me everything again, from the beginning, this time I can chime in.”
You do.
And for the first time, you don’t feel like you’re talking at someone.
You feel heard.

me hyperfixating, experiencing a niche intersection of Things I Know Too Much About, and trying to explain to random strangers how Trick Weekes didn't plan to give Solas magical song-speech but then ran with it organically and intuitively and it became a major part of Solas as a character AND NOT ONLY THAT but Solas as a character partially nods to Odin, a Norse god associated with wisdom and wolves who wanders the world in deceptively humble guises and carries the burden of terrible knowledge and maybe will destroy the world while trying to save it, and Odin is called Galdraföðr, the creator of magical songs, specifically song-spells woven by using a very specific cadence and meter of ancient poetry, and

Dahlia Hawthorne's name was based on the short story "Rappaccini's Daughter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, about a young woman who was poisoned by her own family and became poisonous herself as a result. I finally got my hands on the book, so I wanted to read it through the lens of "what does this story say about Dahlia?"
Tumblr media
Thoughts:
- Beatrice Rappaccini is a beautiful young woman, the daughter of an affluent scientist and the member of a noble family that has fallen into ruin. She has spent her entire life in an idyllic garden of flowers, which was once prosperous and thriving, but has fallen into decay and disrepair as the years have passed. This reflects how Kurain Village was once prosperous, but the village and Fey Family's reputation has crumbled since DL-6.
-It's clear from her dialogue that Beatrice knows nothing of life outside the garden. She is incredibly sheltered, having never left the garden before and knowing nothing of worldly things outside of her small bubble. Similarly, most spirit mediums in Kurain (Pearl and Iris in particular) have never left Kurain Village, growing up sheltered.
-Beatrice is beautiful, delicate, and virtuous, but anything she touches, whether plant, animal, or human, will decay and die by poison. She doesn't *want* to be this way, but her nature cannot be changed. Even when she attempts to take an antidote to her poisonous breath, it fails.
-The author goes out of his way to depict Beatrice not as a monster but as a product of her environment. Beatrice does not *want* to be dangerous, but she was *made* this way by her father, who kept her confined to his garden and used her as a pawn for his own schemes. Her father Giacomo Rappaccini raised her not as a daughter but as a tool, a pawn, a weapon for his own plans and experiments, and turned her into who she is today. Cough cough Morgan Fey
-There is a beautiful purple flower in the garden that Beatrice considers her "sister”. The two have an almost symbiotic relationship, with the protagonist noting that Beatrice and her “sister” seem as if they could be two sides of the same coin. Sounds like Irissss
-The protagonist of the story, Giovanni Guasconti, is a young man who falls in love with Beatrice despite her lethal nature. Through it all, he is desperate to believe in her, hoping against hope that the relationship can work out and that Beatrice is truly good despite the deaths he’s seen her cause. Hmm, a man who wants desperately to believe in people even at the cost of his own life….Feenie?
-Giovanni’s mentor, Baglioni, holds a longstanding grudge against the senior Rappaccini, and Beatrice by extension. He fears for Giovanni’s safety if he keeps seeing Beatrice, but his main priority is seeing Rappaccini fall for the sake of his own revenge. He's a good person, an intellectual with years of experience in the field of science. But his anger consumes him and leads him to harm both Beatrice and Giovanni, seeing them as tools in his plan rather than anything else. Godot?
-When Beatrice asks her father why he made her poisonous, he responds that the poison can function as a defense mechanism. If Beatrice is poisonous, than nobody can hurt her. It's better to be dangerous yourself than to be vulnerable to danger. It’s just like Dahlia!
-This whole exchange:
“”Wherefore didst thou inflict this miserable doom upon thy child?”
“Miserable! What mean you, foolish girl? Dost though deem it misery to be endowed with marvelous gifts, against which no power nor strength could avail an enemy?” Reminds me of how Morgan and the Feys saw spirit channeling as a gift, but Dahlia and Iris seem to see it as a curse

I tend to use "did you know" as an infodumping opener. Ok, chances are, you did not know, but I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt, you know?
