Asking for fic recs or meta or anything nice

I just had nose/sinus surgery (at my country's capital because my problem was special) and now I am at home, recovering. I've been back home for almost a day now and 85% of those 23 hours I have just slept.

I have time now to to heal myself, and I thought if anyone had any cool fics to share or meta, essays, fan art, anything, now is a great time. I like UST and definitely happy endings.

11x21 Thoughts

After seeing the episode for myself, I’m more convinced that I was right about what I said before. We have a clearer understanding of where Carol’s heart is thanks to 11x20, and now it’s a matter of answering whether or not Daryl will choose her.

Their shared arc this episode is about rescuing Connie, but on a deeper level it’s about making sure they don’t make the same mistakes they made when the cave collapsed. As expected, the relationship between Daryl and Connie is played up and also as expected, Carol is there to bear witness, functioning as our unreliable narrator. It’s only when she’s not looking that we’re able to catch the platonic vibes between them. Connie proves once again that she doesn’t need Daryl. She can rescue herself. She’s going to be okay. Juxtapose that with the moment Daryl has with Carol, who is indeed his “safe space.” Holding her hand keeps him centered. #DarylNeedsCarol

But also? #CarolNeedsDaryl because she clearly doesn’t know how to take her own advice. She recognizes that Maggie’s being too hard on herself for letting Hershel get taken, but doesn’t relieve herself of her own guilt about what happened to Connie in the cave. Even though certain fans will be quick to point out how worried Daryl is about her, it doesn’t escape my notice that Carol is equally worried. She doesn’t want to let him down again. It’s not an overtly romantic moment (a reviewer overhyped it, shocker), but when you take into account what we saw in 11x20 and what that opening montage represented for Carol, it does add a lovely shade to her dialogue about being separated from Daryl when she got her job at the Commonwealth, which reminded her of the old world where they never would’ve met.  

Overall, I’m not a huge fan of this episode. I’m pretty damn tired of all the shipbaiting, especially when it’s just a retread of the same beats we’ve already seen and does absolutely nothing to move the needle. I also don’t like that Daryl’s character is being used to turn TWD into The Bachelor, but I’m predicting that’ll be resolved after the dreaded “tunnel of love” scene next episode. Those of us who have been paying close attention to the story over the past few seasons already know where Daryl’s heart is. Unless AMC wants to make extra certain TWDU has no future, they’d be wise not to completely destroy Caryl’s future. While I realize they’ve already proven themselves more than capable of doing so, I still see absolutely no way for this to become an unrequited love story. Carol will get the Cherokee rose. It’s just a matter of how and when. So I’m both hanging onto hope and hanging onto my wallet for now. I have three conditions before I could ever resubscribe. 1) Caryl has to go canon 2) Canon has to be explicit and worth twelve years of anticipation 3) Caryl have to have their spinoff. Call me an entitled fan if you want, but I’m not making any exceptions. It’s Caryl or bust.
