Dan Wilbur has been performing stand-up comedy for nearly half his life. At long last, he's putting his jokes on a comedy album. Come hear the wit and wisdom of a tired, sad but funny man as he shares his thoughts about married life, Cleveland, New York, bookstores, movies, video games, and his perpetual struggle to stop eating everything he sees.

More about Dan: Dan Wilbur is a comedian and the author of 2 humor books, How Not to Read (Penguin) and Never Flirt with Puppy Killers AM Universal). His work has been featured on Sirius XM, College Humor, McSweeney’s, The Onion News Network, the RISK! podcast, and Someecards (where he was also the Ecards Editor). He’s been featured in sketches for College Humor, IFC, MTV, Funny or Die, and Distractify (one of which ended up on The Today Show). Dan has headlined several colleges and recently opened for Patton Oswalt in Madison, Grand Rapids, and at the Beacon Theatre in NYC.

Who was interviewed:

Rob Cantrell has been seen on several TV networks, he has made appearances most recently (2013) on Comedy Central’s ”Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert” and FX’s “Totally Biased with W Kamau Bell”. From 2012-10, Cantrell performed in two full-length Hip-Hop music videos shown on Comedy Central’s “AtomTV” program, appeared in a promo for HBO’s “Flight Of The Concords” and toured in the long running play “The Marijuana-Logues”. He has been asked to perform at Bonnaroo, SXSW and the HIGH TIMES Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. June 2013, Rob just released his first all music comedy album titled “Dreams Never Die”, a 7 song album with several audio sketches that weave in and out of the record in the mold of classic hip hop albums by De La Soul and Handsome Boy Modeling School. His debut music video was featured on Atom.com. Ben was nominated for an Excellence in Comedy in New York Award for Best Musical Comedy Act in 2011. Squirm and Germ is a high-energy music comedy duo created by Tim Girrbach and Rodney Umble.  These 2 MC’s use their hip-hop alter egos to celebrate and parody their irreverent passions in life. They produce infectious beats, 80’s/90’s inspired synth hooks, legit harmonies reminiscent of Rockapella, and rhyme faster than a kid who drank five Red Bulls at a sleepover.  They are often compared to Flight of the Conchords, The Beastie Boys, The Lonely Island, and The Vienna Boys Choir. 

They have rocked the mic at numerous venues around NYC including The Apollo, Joe’s Pub, Ars Nova, UCBeast, Tammany Hall, Under St. Mark’s, The Peoples Improv Theater, The Creek and The Cave, and the 92Y Tribeca. Their rousing live performances have been compared to Electric Six and Digital Underground. 2012 INNY Award nominees for “Maine, MoFo” (Best Comedy Song and Video) and ECNY nominated for best sketch comedy troupe with Drop Six (Official selections of Sketchfest NYC, Sketchfest Seattle, D.C. And so that’s why I support Marnell’s post, because it got me thinking. And it got my partner and I talking. And no, I don’t like the glib tone of her essay (“A diaphragm. Ooh! The wild card! I had one of these in college, and by college I mean the year I was 18 and living in Soho and going to “acting school” and blowing my trust fund on cocaine and champagne at all of the best clubs. Anyway, I lugged around a diaphragm with me in a little case and would OCCASIONALLY use it. I was very slutty back then and never got preg, so I guess it worked.”), but I agree with her point that oral contraceptives generally suck. Yes, they do make a lot of women feel like shit, not to mention the massive pill recall last month and the 7,000 lawsuits against the makers of Yaz and Yasmin. So that’s why I don’t take them. My excuse for not using condoms? It just doesn’t feel as good. Is that an excuse I would want my teenage daughter to be making? No. Do I want my child to take Plan B like it’s candy in order to avoid pregnancy the way Marnell does? Of course not. Do I need to find a suitable contraceptive alternative to the pill and stop using the pull-out method like a horny, teenage idiot? Probably. Should my partner and I go get tested for STDs? Yes. Would I have bothered to consider the very real consequences of my behavior unless I’d read Marnell’s blog post and Beck’s reaction to it? I doubt it. So thanks to both of you for opening my eyes and causing me to have some important discussions. I’m about to go ask my man-friend how he feels about babies.
