I found a thread complaining about castle shikigami 2’s localization. All the typical weebs who complain about things not being “just translated.” There’s even a post complaining that even using a synonym instead of the original word is bad. Like BRO
Castle Shikigami 2 is literally translated. It is translated word-by-word as if the translator only had a dictionary. It is exactly what you’re asking for and yeah! It’s bad! That’s why some localizing is still important.
The game is full of incomplete sentences because that’s how people speak in Japanese. The speech sounds so unnatural because Japanese speech doesn’t cleanly translate to English. Language doesn’t work like that.
Also fuck you castle shikigami 2 is a masterpiece. Literally one of the greatest games of all time. The weird translation makes it. why? MIGHT!

Sega Dreamcast - Shikigami no Shiro 2 Deluxe Edition (Castle Shikigami II)
Title: Shikigami no Shiro 2 Deluxe Edition / 式神の城 II
Developer/Publisher: Alfa System
Release date: 25 March 2004
Catalogue No.: T-47701M
Genre: Shooting Action
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THANK YOU, ALFA SYSTEM!! Alfa System listened to their loyal Dreamcast fans and brought us Shikigami no Shiro 2 (The Demon God Castle 2 in English) on the 25th of March 2004. From what I can tell, the Dreamcast version seems to have all the same options as the Game Cube version (the first console version) including the gallery mode which is a great sign. There are loads of play modes plus a remixed soundtrack option, full speech for each character that can be switched on or off and a very convenient practice mode. Each player has a variety of two different attack styles to choose from which can be accessed by pushing left or right on the character select screen. A great point about Shikigami no Shiro II is that every one of the characters has their own unique way of shooting just like characters of a fighting game have their own unique fighting style. Personally, I haven't tried out every character much yet but it's going to be fun finding out.
I can imagine that a lot of you out there are asking "Is Shikigami no Shiro II better than Psyvariar 2?" Well, that's a tuff one to answer. They are both shooters played in a 2D style over 3D backgrounds, but I'd say Psyvariar 2 is more of a pattern shooter than Shikigami no Shiro II. I love both of them, but I'd have to say Shikigami no Shiro 2 would be my favorite due to the style of the characters appealing more to me. As far as game play goes, I'd say Psyvariar 2 will have you on the edge of your seats more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Dreamcast Limited Deluxe edition comes with a free CD Soundtrack (pictured above) of all the music and character voices featured in Shikigami no Shiro II plus a cool set of 4-character trading cards which you can see below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that's not the end of the goodies. Not only do you get the game, OST and trading cards presented in a beautiful card sleeve, but you can also get a very limited Shikigami no Shiro II NTT phone card for use in Japan. These were only available if you ordered the game directly from Sega Japan.

Oniou Banquet Event
Tumblr media
A new 3-week long event that coincides with Suzuka Gozen's release and is the big event to start the new story arc. It's similar to the Shiranui island, Castle of the Sun and Sea Voyage type events. Consists of 3 major parts; Hyakkou Defense, Sign of Daybreak and Lantern Grandma bosses.
Hyakkou Defense
Progress through multiple stages by clearing 4-14 rounds of activities and last round bosses. Stages 1-10 have 5 rounds, stages 11-50 have 10 stages, while stages 51 onwards have 15 rounds. Costs 1 event AP to clear a round, may cost more if you need multiple attempts to clear last round bosses. This part of the event can also be done on auto.
First Rounds
For the first rounds, you must clear an activity or choose between 1 of 2-3 activities. If there's a choice while on auto, a random one will be picked.
List of activities are;
Boss Battles: Costs 1 event AP to do solo or co-op. Battles consist of 1-6 enemies and has no time limit.
Blessings: Choose 1 of 3 bonus effects that can be applied to your whole team. Bonus effects do not stack but multiple of the same increase the level and strength of the effect, max 10 levels. Bonus effects include;
Stat Buffs
Splash damage
Restore HP after taking an action
Chance of reduced onibi cost
Mitama/souls
Lantern Adventure: Pick between 2 answers, after picking can leave a comment for other players to read. On auto, an answer will be randomly be chosen for you. There are no right or wrong answers.
Lantern Reward: A random reward box.
Quizzes: The quizzes are the exact same as the ones for Oumagatoki/Demon Encounter. On auto, only the correct answers will be chosen for you.
Mystery Merchant: Exactly like the Mystery Merchant that appears on Wed&Sat, but there are only 1 of 3 items to buy or you can choose to not buy anything and move on. On auto, nothing will be bought.
Recommended to always pick Blessings until you max out your desired bonus effects and completely avoid the Mystery Merchant.
Last Round Bosses
These bosses are solo only, gradually become stronger over time and have a 2-minute limit. Despite there being a time limit, HP for the boss and minions will carry over between attempts. The rewards for defeating the boss are event currency, an "mirror shard", daruma shards, orochi scales evo materials and 1 of 3 reward boxes. The reward Boxes are;
Mitama/Soul Box: ~8 random 5* mitama/souls ~3 random 6* mitama/souls, orochi scales and gold orochi scales
Gold Box: gold, daruma shards (includes black daruma shards) and/or whole darumas, evo materials
AP Box: AP, jade, mochi, realm cards, grey summon tickets
S-Jade Pack
There's also Oniou s-jade packs that can be bought for this part of the event. They last for 7 days and grant the following:
Boss Battles: The first 10 boss battles won't require event AP to challenge.
Blessings: All bonus effects will be temporarily increased by 1 level, includes bonus effects that are already max level.
Mochi: Rounds of mochi is increased to 7 and the cost to feed the auto paper doll is capped at 10 mochi.
If you intend on buying this, then buy it on the first day of the event.
Lantern Grandma Bosses
After the first week of the event, 4 Lantern Grandma Boss Challenges will become available.
After the second week of ths event, an assemble version of the Lantern Ggrandma bosses will become available.
“Faith Blessings” are really important for these bosses. Blessings are obtained via the exchange shop, you can use event currency or jade to buy them. Each blessing gives you +3% damage and damage reduction. There are also powerful effects for having certain amounts of blessings, which are;
10: Start each round with 8 onibi and ATK is increased by 60% for 3 turns
30: Shikigami skills cost 2 less onibi
50: After taking an action, own HP is restored by 25%
70: Enemies’ DEF is reduced by 50%
100: Damage from a single nemy attack will not exceed 50% of max HP
150: Speed is increased by 100
Boss Challenge
Defeat the Lantern Grandma bosses within 3 minutes. It's solo only and has Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. Only 1 Lantern Grandma is challengeable at first, the other 3 will be gradually unlocked. The unique mechanics and annoying skills to be wary of for these Boss Challenges on Hard are;
Boss 1:
Every time a skill is used, the onibi cost for it is increased by .
Boss 2:
One round battle.
Boss has 80% chance to dodge normal attacks and their received damage from AOE attacks is greatly reduced.
Boss 3:
One round battle.
Boss inflicts enemies with a "debuff". Boss greatly reduces their received damage while "debuff" is active. Need to gain a total of 350% of own HP as healing to remove the "debuff" and the boss' damage reduction.
The "debuff" is a visual effect that looks kind of like a shield or a bubble, plus a green bar above your shiki or onmyouji's HP bar. The green bar is how much healing you need to gain.
Boss 4:
One round battle with 3 of the boss as enemies.
A yellow bar underneath the HP bar represents how much total HP the 3 bosses have. Can switch between the bosses to view their individual HP and skills.
Bosses hit very hard.
Rewards for clearing all difficulties for each of the 4 Boss Challenges are;
Easy: 5 black daruma shards, 90 jade and 16666 gold
Normal: 1 bio affection item, 16666 gold, 6666 event currency
Hard: 1 bio affection item, 16666 gold, 6666 event currency
Although there is ranking, there are no rewards for besides bragging rights and providing examples of teams to use.
Assemble Boss
Fight the Lantern Grandma bosses twice a day between 18:00 - 23:00. The 1st time to join a boss is free, the 2nd time requires a "Battle Token" which can be bought from the exchange shop. A min/max of 60/100 people can participate. If not enough people join and you used a "Battle Token", it will be refunded. Buffs for Boss Challenges are also applied here. Ranking is same as Oumagatoki/Demon Encounter bosses.
The assembly boss is split into 2 phases. In phase 1 everyone must pick 1 of 4 bosses to fight separately. Phase 2 begins when 1 of them has been defeated and the remaining 3 must be fought together. Can choose your team at the start of both phases. Grandma bosses have the same skills as in easy Boss Challenges.
Note: Please do not go to the Oumagatoki/Demon Encounter map to fight this boss. It is accessed via the same area as the Boss Challenges.
Sign of Daybreak
The entire server must work together to unlock stories with “mirror shards" for all 6 factions. Each faction has 4 stories to unlock, they are unlocked at by donating 500k, 1mil, 1.5mil and 2mil "mirror shards". Donating shards to a faction gives event AP and other random rewards.
Once all 4 stories for a faction are unlocked, a 30% damage and damage reduction buff will be granted to the following shikigami and onmyouji;
Ouma no Hara: SP Tamamo, Ootengu, Yuki Onna, Enmusubi, Sanbi
Fujiwara Clan: Seimei, Kagura, Hiromasa, Yaobikuni
Mt Suzuka: Suzuka Gozen, Ootakemaru, Kujira, Kani-hime, Fuuri
Mt Seven Peak: Yamakaze, SP Ichimoku Ren, Youtou, Hakurou, Hotarugusa
Minamoto Clan: Orochi, Onikiri, SP Onikiri, Heiyou, Warrior Soul
Mt Oe: Shuten, SP Shuten, Ibaraki, SP Ibaraki, Hoshiguma
Additionally, these rewards will also become claimable when all 4 stories for a faction are unlocked.
100 AP, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
100 jade, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
3* white daruma, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
50* mochi, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
1 blue daruma, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
1 blue summon ticket, 66666 gold, 13666 event currency
Betting
Sadly this is just regular Showdown Bidding, not the tournament-style one. Betting is only active from 10:00 to 24:00.
Rewards
The most notable in the exchange shop are: 2 event icon frames, 12 loading screen illustrations, new SP Miketsu skin, random SSR/SP, skin tickets, 4 blue summon tickets, 100 jade, orochi scales, demon souls, 3 x 3* white daruma, 4-5* white daruma, black daruma, special kekkai/realm cards, lots of gold and AP, "Oniou Packs", etc.
Like always, the more appealing items like the random SSR/SP and new skin are locked by a requirement. In this event the requirements are event points, however, they are not obtained as drops or rewards for doing anything. Instead, event points simply represent your total accumulated event currency.
There's 5 lots of event AP that be bought with jade, 2 x 400 that cost 5-10 jade per 1 event AP and 3 x 100 that cost 5-10-15 jade per 1 event AP. After the 1st week of the event, 2 lots of “Faith Blessings” can be bought per day with jade and event currency, 1 x 20 that cost 10 jade per 1 and 1 x 10 that cost 4888 event currency per 1. Then after the 2nd week, 1 “Battle Token” can be bought for 10 jade.
Recommended Teams
Hyakkou Defense
Boss Battle Activity
2 AOE attackers + Oitsuki or Zashiki + Yama Usagi or Peach & Karashi and snow spirit Kiyohime
3 AOE attackers + Oitsuki or Zashiki + Yama Usagi or Peach & Karashi or snow spirit Kiyohime
3 AOE attackers + Kaoru + maneki/fortune cat Kujira
3 AOE attackers + Ushi + snow spirit Kiyohime
SP Iba + SP Tamamo + Enmusubi or Ushi + SP Shuten + Oitsuki
Last Round Bosses
2 AOE attackers + snow spirit Kiyohime + Oitsuki or Zashiki + Yama Usagi or Peach & Karashi
SP Tamamo + SP Iba or Ootengu + Enmusubi or Ushi + SP Shuten + Oitsuki
2 Multi-hit AOE + Oitsuki + Ushi + snow spirit Kiyohime
AOE + Shoyou + Oitsuki + Ushi + snow spirit Kiyohime
SP Tamamo or Takiyasha + Shoyou + Oitsuki + Ushi + Enmusubi
Double Shuten + Shuranui + Ushi + Enmusubi
SP Tamamo or Takiyasha + double Youkinshi + Oitsuki or Enmusubi + Aoandon
After you max out the "Reduced Onibi Cost" bonus effect, lighters (eg; Oitsuki, Zashiki) might not be needed. So feel free to swap them out for an additional attacker or any other shiki that can help you do more damage/clear bosses quicker.
3 of the 6 recommended bonus effects to equip are; reduced onibi cost, increased SPD, hyousube. The other remaining 3 are up to personal choice.
Lantern Grandma Boss Challenges (Hard Difficulty)
These are the recommended teams specifically for Hard. For Easy and Normal you should use the same or similiar teams, but for the 3rd boss you can use whatever healer you already built.
1st Boss:
SP Tamamo + SP Shuten + double Youkinshi + Ushi
Kuro Douji + SP Shuten + double Youkinshi + Ushi
2nd Boss:
SP Tamamo + Youkinshi or Kamai + Enmusubi + Ushi + snow spirit Kiyohime
3rd Boss:
SP Tamamo + Youkinshi or Kamai + Enmusubi + Ushi + Hotarugusa or Momo
4th Boss:
SP Tamamo or SP Iba + double Youkinshi + Kosode + Enmusubi
SP Tamamo + Kamai + seductress Kiyohime + Kosode + Enmusubi
SP Tamamo + double Youkinshi + Enmusubi + shield shiki
Double SP Tamamo + Kamai + Enmusubi + shield shiki
Shuten + Shiranui + Enmusubi + Ushi + shield shiki
For 1st Boss Challenge, must either have 30 blessings so the reduced onibi cost buff is unlocked.
For 2nd Boss Challenge, cannot use shiki that primarily use normal attacks or AOE attacks without Ushi.
For 3rd Boss Challenge, must have a very a strong healer to remove the debuff inflicted on your team and the boss' damage reduction. Hotarugusa and Umibouzu are probably the best options, because their healing isn't based on HP but ATK and damage dealt. The next best are Momo and Sakura, but since their healing is based on HP, it could take longer to remove the "debuff" on them.
For 4th Boss Challenge, must have a shikigami who can provide a strong shield such as; Ichimoku Ren or Hako no Shoujo with hamaguri/sea sprite, Kujira oe 2-6* Shiro Douji with maneki/fortune cat, or Sakura with shinju/pearl. Shiro Douji and Kujira are probably the best options. If you choose not to use any of them, must use a somewhat fast Enmusubi with hamaguri/sea sprite so she can heal more frequently.
Lantern Grandma Assembly Boss
Phase 1 & 2:
Double Shuten + Shiranui + Ushi + Enmusubi
SP Tamamo + double Youkinshi + Ushi + Enmusubi
Phase 2:
Double Shuten + Shiranui + Ushi + Kosode
The assembly boss is rather easy. The grandma boss that may be a problem during either phase is the 3rd one, but as long as you have a healer (eg Enmusubi) you won't have to worry about her damage reduction.
Even if you don't have or use the double Shuten + Shiranui or double Youkinshi + SP Tamamo teams, can use whatever team/s you usually use for Oumagatoki/Demon Encounter bosses. However, you should equip your attackers and Ushi with kyoukotsu to make the most of the 30 blessings buff.
