You know, I actually had an au where I covered the chat blanc timeline for a bit.

You Never Loved Me

“No,” Marinette said, shaking her head and pushing the voice out of her mind. She must have heard wrong, she must be hallucinating, she must be dreaming, she must… must…

“Adrien, I’m not,” she tried, the rest of the words refusing to leave her mouth and instead catching in her throat. But she had to get it out; she had to rationalize it and find out why . The voice cackled cruelly in her head, as if mocking, and she urged it to shut up . “This can’t be real .”

“M’lady?” Adrien asked, voice now confused rather than panicked. The rain seemed to increase in volume, and Marinette wrenched her hand out of his grip to place over her ears.

Her thoughts rushed in time with the rain and wind, and she could faintly pick up Adrien calling her name again. Adrien, who was Chat Noir.

The same Chat Noir who was famously in love with Paris’s other hero. The same Chat Noir who still, to this day, publicly flirted with the heroine. Who still tried to hold her hand and kiss her, flirted with her incessantly to no avail, teased her like lovers did, pushed rumors of his and Ladybug’s apparently secretive and illicit relationship.

She could feel herself spiraling, the space between her and Chat Noir seeming to stretch into an insurmountable distance. She didn’t want to look at him anymore, the green of his eyes suddenly seeming threatening and poisonous, but she couldn’t look away.

Even now, as the situation was dawning fully on her, she didn’t want to believe it to be true.

Her stomach fought up against her chest violently, the previous butterflies she had for the boy twisting into sadness, nausea, jealousy, and anger. All were rioting inside her, and she couldn’t think anymore, the warring sensations sending her doubling over for fear of throwing up her earlier lunch.

“Chat Noir?” someone called out from a distance away, footsteps suddenly feeding into Marinette’s senses. Marinette didn’t even have to guess who it was, her luck demanding the situation be made all the worse by the approaching heroine.
