AMS’s second new life
AMS’s second new life In 2011, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was installed on the International Space Station (ISS). Since then, it has recorded more than 200 billion cosmic ray events and, while most of their sources are known, a few signatures in the data could point to dark matter. The detector’s latest upgrade will enable scientists to investigate this further. AMS collects cosmic ray particles that reach Earth coming either directly from the Sun or from far-away sources such as stars ending in supernovae or black holes. Most of the cosmic rays that AMS detects are protons, but heavy nuclei like iron or silicon also reach the detector. However, one signature is particularly intriguing. AMS has detected an unusually high flux of positrons – the antimatter partners of electrons. Positrons and other antimatter particles are rare in the Universe and hence not expected to be seen in the observed data at the strength found by AMS. Their origin is not yet confirmed; they could come from pulsars (fast rotating remnants of stars that emit regular signals), a yet-unknown astrophysical source or dark matter. The observed positron flux fits very well with dark matter models. But in order to investigate this more accurately, the AMS collaboration is now working on refurbishing the detector. The main upgrade will be a new detector layer with a higher number of silicon strips that will increase the acceptance of recording infalling particles by 300%. “By 2030, AMS will extend the energy range of the positron flux and reduce the error by a factor of two compared with current data,” says AMS spokesperson Sam Ting (MIT). This will allow the detector to investigate the positron signature even further. A second important addition will be three new radiative surfaces. Because AMS is exposed to direct sunlight, it was painted white to reflect excess heat and remain at operational temperatures. After 13 years in the demanding conditions of space, the paint has degraded and, to compensate for this, the new radiators will keep AMS cool again. Astronauts training at NASA’s “Neutral Buoyancy Lab” on a full-scale ISS model submerged under water where they learn to mount the new AMS upgrade parts (Image: Corrado Gargiulo/NASA) Currently, all the parts of the new upgrade, including electronics and hardware, are being built as “validation” and “qualification” models. If they pass all the tests happening at CERN, INFN Perugia and IABG in Germany, the final flight model will go into production. Astronauts are already training with the prototypes in space-like environments on Earth. In 2026, when the upgrade is launched, the astronauts will mount the new detector parts onto AMS during spacewalks. “Everything is going very, very fast,” says chief engineer Corrado Gargiulo (CERN). “This is a requirement, otherwise we arrive too late at the ISS for the upgrade to make sense.” Indeed, the mission now has an end date. NASA has scheduled the deorbiting of the ISS for 2030 and, until then, AMS will have plenty of cosmic ray events to record to explore the positron signature. A mock-up detector for the next AMS upgrade, which will be installed during the next anticipated spacewalk for AMS. Another part of the upgrade includes a large power distribution system (PDS) radiator to restore AMS’s optimal thermal performance. Ten Facts About Me! :D
I actually got tagged by both @embti and @adhdenfp. THAAAAAANKS FRAAAAAANDS
1. I have been in one relationship, and that was in high school. Tbh, I don’t feel a need to enter another one. (Am I asexual? Great question.)
2. One of my favorite things in the world is Cirque du Soleil. There’s just something so dang cool about seeing artistry, acrobatics, and storytelling come together like that. There’s nothing else like it.
3. I don’t have a ton of things I can put a blanket statement of “I’m afraid of this” on, but octopi are something I’m afraid of without exception. I am 30% fascinated, 70% terrified of how smart they are. And there’s just way too much to them. They need to calm down.
4. One of my favorite chill-out activities is cooking/baking. This is 100% due to falling in love with The Great British Bake-Off/The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. My favorite thing to make is curry. Nadiya Hussain and Chetna Makan are my favorite recipe-makers. Anytime I make dinner, my house smells like an Indian restaurant for days. It’s glorious.
5. I keep a $1 bill in one of my college textbooks that I use frequently at work. This is because when I was in college, a random stranger came up to me, asked me about my major (mechanical engineering), and asked me what I planned to do with my degree (follow my dream of working in the amusement industry.) He then asked me what my name was and handed me a $1 bill, and he said, “Take this, because when you’re a famous roller coaster designer someday and I see you on TV, I want to be able to tell my friends, ‘Hey, I know that guy! He owes me $1!’” I think that’s one of the coolest ways of supporting someone’s dreams that any stranger could ever possibly do. I kept that dollar, and that’s the one I keep in that textbook. I hope to learn how to be randomly kind to strangers on that magnitude someday.
6. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and any derivatives of those two things bore me to tears. I’m a terrible nerd, I know.
7. I have a cat. Her name is Nora. I love her to pieces. However, both the smell of her food and the act of cleaning her litter box make me gag. I legit have to hold my breath and take frequent breaks when doing either task. I don’t understand why; I can watch surgery or pimple popping videos without issue, but animal food will make me barf. (I had similar issues with the smell of dog food when being around dogs growing up.)
8. I’ve already thought this out: if I had to/elected to leave the U.S. forever, I’d move to Ireland (Republic, not Northern. That’s not anti-Northern Ireland or anti-U.K.; I just really loved the Republic of Ireland when I went there last year.) Canada is nice, but I’m not about their weather.
9. The Christopher Eccleston + David Tennant years of Doctor Who are one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever seen. I stan those story arcs so hard. Matt Smith’s first season was good, but the show quality decreased and my frustration grew exponentially with each season since. My love of Broadchurch has me cautiously optimistic about Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall, but we’ll see. I dislike that I’ve gone from obsession to constant frustration with that show.
10. When I am in the car, I BELT along with my music. If someone else is in the car with me, you couldn’t pay me enough to sing along. I’m too shy!
I tag @cowspot and @loves-a-good-story! :D

A mock-up detector for the next AMS upgrade, which will be installed during the next anticipated spacewalk for AMS. Another part of the upgrade includes a large power distribution system (PDS) radiator to restore AMS’s optimal thermal performance. When Google Chrome announced in January that third-party cookies would be phased out in two years, senior ad tech leaders joined the W3C – the group that creates common standards for web browsers – to find ways for browsers to support advertising use cases such as targeting, attribution and frequency capping.
Now six months have passed since Chrome’s announcement. Only 18 months remain before Chrome joins its fellow browsers in blocking cross-site tracking.
So as the W3C Improving Web Advertising Business Group stays mired in the theoretical and spends time explaining how advertising works to the browser community, panic is mounting.
Ad tech businesses are about to be upended by the loss of cross-site tracking, and a comprehensive solution is still out of sight.
Marketers and publishers are mostly absent from the business group – either because they think ad tech companies will solve the problem or because they don’t have the resources to participate, especially in the midst of a pandemic.
More puzzlingly, the Google ads team has been absent too, ceding the conversation to Chrome at a time when the ad tech community sees Google’s ads business as their closest ally in communicating the importance of advertising to browser engineers.
“My view is that it’s not going very well,” said Magnite Chief Technology Officer Tom Kershaw, who has been devoting eight to 10 hours a week on the W3C. He gives the group an “A” for effort but a “D” for delivery. “There are no actionable proposals on the table, and nothing we can try in the real world. And 18 months goes quick.”
There’s been “no tangible difference” since the start, added PubMatic CTO John Sabella.
So far, much of the discussion has centered on proposals in Google Chrome’s Privacy Sandbox, a group of ideas that solve for some advertising use cases, for example, moving ad auctions to browsers and adding noise to targeting groups. But few of these concepts have advanced since their introduction, in the opinion of the members interviewed.
“When we say sandbox, in tech, it’s things you want to touch and feel and play with. It’s nowhere near that yet,” Sabella said.
Even if the best-case scenario happens and all the privacy sandbox proposals become standards in the next 18 months, it still won’t restore online advertising to the way it operates now.
“We will only see maybe 60% to 70% of business models survive in the sandbox ecosystem,” said Adform Chief Strategy Officer Jochen Schlosser.
What’s more, in order to protect their users’ privacy, browsers increasingly believe they should oversee critical functions – such as running ad auctions – instead of ad tech companies. Ad tech companies, used to autonomy, have been pushing back against some of the changes that shift control to the browsers in the early months of discussions within the group.
The Process
The more than 200 members of the W3C’s Improving Web Advertising Business Group attend weekly conference calls and share code and ideas on GitHub, with the goal of establishing a dialogue between the ad tech and browser communities about what is needed to sustain an ad-supported open web. They also share what problems they need solved – such as the nuances of ad targeting, attribution and ad auctions.
“A lot of the process is getting a shared set of terminology and practices and needs, before anyone can build features to meet these needs,” said Wendy Seltzer, strategy lead and counsel at the W3C and chair of the advertising group.
The W3C primarily recommends technical specifications browsers can voluntarily adopt, Seltzer said. Business groups such as Improving Web Advertising are often the first step in a multi-step process.
Topics that graduate out of that group are incubated in W3C’s Privacy Working Community Group or the WICG (Web Platform Incubator Community Group). Those working groups write the spec, go through reviews and polish the tech with interoperability testing. Along the way, ideas must build consensus and be judged “win-win-wins” in order to proceed.
How long this process takes is a mystery to those in ad tech, who are still learning the unfamiliar politics of browsers. They shared uncertainty about how many ideas become standards and how long it takes.
They can only look at precedent. “SameSite cookies are a singular change, and it’s taken them months and months to roll out and test that one feature,” said CafeMedia Chief Product Officer Paul Bannister, a W3C member. By contrast, he added, Privacy Sandbox would require around 14 changes within the next 20 months. By Q1 of next year, he’d like to see testing of the features in the Privacy Sandbox meet the early 2022 deadline for dropping third-party cookies.
But even after testing is complete, businesses need time to adopt the new specs.
“It’s a bit concerning, from my perspective, what we are going to see on the other end of the timeline – if participants would have sufficient time to reconstruct their businesses,” said Ian Meyers, identity senior product manager at LiveRamp.
Where’s Google Ads?
Google’s advertising team has kept an extremely low profile in the group, puzzling other members.
Though Google as a whole counts 19 members in the group, and Chrome engineers actively participate, the eight W3C advertising business group members interviewed agreed that the Google ads team is silent on the weekly progress calls. They don’t comment on any of the GitHub contributions and haven’t made any contributions themselves.
Additionally, some W3C members say that Chrome engineers often ask questions that suggest a puzzling – or perhaps even performative – lack of domain understanding of how the ads business works or the value created by advertising.
“I hope they talk to each other internally,” said Criteo senior product manager and W3C member Arnaud Blanchard. “I would suggest they talk a little bit more, because they would see what the Chrome guys propose would break a lot of things: If the browser does the auction, I don’t know what the value of AdX is in this world.”
But perhaps not talking to each other is the point.
“They have a sizable antitrust target on their back, so having as much of this conversation as possible in public benefits them,” said MediaMath CTO Wilfried Schobeiri.
He, along with others, noted a corporate carefulness to the Chrome team’s speech on the weekly calls.
“There is a story of Chinese walls. But if it’s two different companies, they should both join [the conversation],” said one frustrated W3C member, who didn’t want to publicly share a negative opinion of a business partner. “The biggest publisher and tech company on the planet is not visible there, and that is completely insane.”
The Google ads team disputes that it’s absent from the W3C, pointing to a GitHub page from two months ago where they encouraged testing RTB without personalization.
“While Chrome has played an active role in W3C for years and is driving our efforts within the forum, both Chrome and Google ads are active participants in the forum and share a common commitment to ideas for a Privacy Sandbox,” said Chetna Bindra, Google senior product manager for user trust, privacy and transparency, in a statement. These experiments are already underway, she added.
But the W3C members giving up time and resources contributing to the business group want more from Google, whose might would come in handy.
So they’re urging the Google ads team to get off the bench and help them architect a solution that preserves an ad-supported open web and the livelihood of all those who rely on it.
“I would welcome their contributions to the group,” said Joshua Koran, head of Zeta Innovation Labs and W3C member. “I am surprised given their market share they haven’t taken a more active role in the conversations.”
Browser Power Plays
The advertising members of the business group are also grappling with how the new standards shift power to the browser in the name of privacy.
Web advertising has always been an anything goes affair, where trackers can be shared with hundreds of companies.
“The problem stems from what the technology allowed before,” MediaMath’s Schobeiri said.
Now that data will be locked up to protect user privacy, who holds the key?
The browsers say it’s them.
“There is an emerging consensus that the browser is the user’s agent, and should help the user protect against individually linked tracking across the web without user consent,” W3C’s Seltzer said.
Case in point: The privacy sandbox proposal TURTLEDOVE moves the auction to the browser.
But without doing some of the auction in the server, ad tech companies will be exposed to security issues and it will take too long for pages to load, said Criteo senior product manager Arnaud Blanchard.
Blanchard co-authored a counterproposal, SPARROW, which introduced the idea of a non-browser gatekeeper as well as a server-side auction outside of the browser.
W3C members praised the SPARROW proposal, but don’t see the browser community embracing a standard where they give up control.
The proposed changes in the privacy sandbox are just another example of the “platform economy,” where companies must rent consumers from platforms, Adform’s Schlosser said. “The vested interest of the publishers is to stay in front of the consumer. And that is not what the sandboxes are trying to build.”
But while he disagrees with how much power shifts to the browser in many of the sandbox proposals, Schlosser feels more closely aligned with the browser community on the issue of privacy. Having gone through GDPR, any pushback over privacy is a battle already lost.
“I’m 100% sure the old times are over,” Schlosser said. But he sees other advertising companies in the group more resistant to privacy-focused changes. “Maybe it’s just for political negotiation purposes but the gap is huge.”
The future
There are multiple paths toward solving the problem of a common advertising standard across browsers.

If the W3C can solve for a handful of online advertising use cases by early 2022, marketers will be able to rely on a common standard across all browsers to do some level of audience targeting or attribution, for example. But they should expect these solutions to look and work much differently than they did before.
A second path includes tech solutions that work with existing browser standards – like ones that use first-party cookies. However, only a couple of companies such as Google and Facebook have first-party identity at scale, so a lack of new open browser standards could push more marketing dollars into those environments. Smaller publishers don’t have the scale to create an enticing identity solution for marketers.
In the third path, each browser could individually come up with ways to help advertisers and publishers make money on the open web (or not), just as they individually made the decision to block third-party cookies.
Google Chrome, for example, could develop advertising use cases that work just on its browser. Standards developed by the W3C can be implemented at any time – though it’s most encouraged after it reaches the recommendation stage, Seltzer.
The ultimate solve would be if Google develops (and shares) a browser-specific, privacy-safe identifier – a weed of a rumor that keeps reappearing as soon as it’s killed.
Though such an ID could perhaps save online advertising in its current form, members in the group say that it’s abundantly clear a browser ID is not on the table. It’s better to just embrace a future with privacy at its core. (And to expect the mobile ad ID to disappear in a few years too).
What web browsers will do to support online advertising 18 months from now is a mystery to those closest to the browsers – so they’re advising everyone in advertising to buckle in and start asking who’s in the driver’s seat.

LIMITED EDITION

Atin Bhutani – CEO In Corp Global Pte Ltd
Rare is always limited. Atin is the true Guy. He is Numero Uno but is not fixated on the numbers game. It is more important for him to successfully do the right thing all the time. Breaking free of traditions, type cast , brackets imposed by Society here is a pure soul who emerges as a shining example of exceptional, inspirational role model.
What takes people a lifetime to learn Atin has already in a short span grasped the discerning factor that role models or leaders fail when expectations are not met. When it really matters and they are not there they turn out to be mere ordinary individuals. “And I realised that you do your own thing and be your self made man as everyone looks after their interests in the end“
The succesful evolution of a character is not determined by the accolades, gold medals received or the numbers /high scores ranking in the professional world of which Atin has an impressive collection.
Although Atin is on the top its his finer and sensitive traits which wins him staunch friends, loyal customers and employees who leave and come back to work with him. His clients vouch that –“Atin does not give stress”
Atin Bhutani’s entrepreneurial spirit was born from his childhood experience. Atin’s father was expected to become a doctor. Bhutani’s father rebelled. Bhutani says,” My dad was supposed to become a doctor, in fact he got admitted into a college but did not pursue it because he wanted to become an entrepreneur.” Initially his father joined his grandfather in the family business.
As the saying goes in business partnerships you need to be on the same wavelength and the alliance didn’t last long as apart from the generation gap, Bhutani’s father wanted to carve his own niche.
Relocating to Surat with a few thousand Rs(INR) and his family to start a business of Automobile spare parts Bhutani vividly remembers his fathers struggles and hard work. They lived in a one-bedroom house and packing cases from the store became the sofa and bed. He says simply, “dad worked very, very hard”
His father shaped young Atin’s character leading with examples of qualities of leadership, generosity and making a difference in other peoples lives. While growing his own business his father undertook the responsibility of siblings of his own by bringing them in, settled them with businesses of their own
Both his parents were academically strong, his mother was a double MA plus a gold medalist and always told the kids that while their dad was doing what he was doing their primary focus was to excel in studies and the result was that Atin was a topper at school level, a Gold medalist in Mechanical Engineering, scoring 2220 out of 2400 in GRE getting into top 10 MBA universities in India or being one of the few directors in HSBC
Atin is the eldest of two brothers. Both his parents were the eldest on either side and Atin by default is the eldest in the family. His entire schooling of 15 years was in one school which was very strong in discipline “Martay thhe” (they used to beat) as he says in Hindi with refreshing candor…but that is fine. That’s how we grew up in my age”
This time both father and son shared the same dream that Atin should be a Pilot. Bhutani details his ascension from aspiring Pilot to a revered finance executive. Finishing school and without prior advice enrolled in flying school. During his Pilot training he discovered the lack of promising career opportunities in the field,
“Becoming a private pilot during the late 90s when there were no airlines in India. No private airlines, like Jet. So jobs that the pilots could get was VIP pilots. “This I didn’t know growing up and only once I entered that field realized why there were only 10 students and 4 instructors and 60,000 jobless pilots. So I knew I had to do something else also.”
Following in his fathers footsteps of being a self-made man - I was always quite independent, didnt want to become an instructor and I didntt want to live off my dad. He is a self made man and I would be a self made man as well”.- “Never really took a lot from my parents.” Although his dad could support him for overseas MBA program he chose to pursue it from the top Universities in India. Once you are in top 10 it hardly matters whether its one acronym or another.” Its not as if I look back at it and think every decision I took was right. If I could I would not do my engineering, I would do BBA then do my MBA because engineering didn’t help me so much. Other than building a bit of character, building to live independently and stuff I would have saved 1 year.”
From here he made a career changing choice that eventually landed him in HSBC and reaching a management level Director role.
During those years, he harks back to the outsize role his son held in his life. Bhutani notes he is vulnerable to quickly tear even at emotional junctions within a movie. Therefore, he suffered a great deal of pain during his son’s infancy and early childhood.
His son, who had a premature delivery, suffered from lactogen intolerance. This placed great limits on his early nutrition and diet, “First 3 years of his life he couldn’t have milk so for a child who couldn’t have milk he couldn’t also have mashed potato because his food pipe was so small. So the only thing he could have was soya milk and because soya milk has no taste we used to buy this flavored Godrej brand called sofit. Now popular but during those days old packaging you used to get in select few places in bangalore so all the mall walaas (hindi word for mall owners) had my number and used to say “Saab aa gaya aa jao” in Hindi(Sir its arrived you come over). So he grew up the first 2 and a half years even if cake used to touch his face he would develop blisters and he would struggle.” Bhutani recollects.
This adversity was overcome by character building and provided Bhutani with great pride and inspiration as he noted “Nowadays I look up to my son a lot. He has a phenomenal attitude.” He continues, “We feel he has grown up to be very respectful and very good child. There are times even when hes not wrong he will just keep quiet. And brilliant football player, good in studies so we’re very happy. Flip side is now he cant eat fruits because for the first 3 years he kept drinking fruit fruit. So I learnt a lot from him the spirit of perseverance against all odds. When he’s playing football he is the smallest in the team but competes the hardest. In aggressive play when someone tackles him he just gets up and keeps going.”
The struggle brought him and his wife Chetna even closer and her words of faith –“ if god takes something away he gives something else” saw him through. It was also her faith and importantly, sacrifices, that put the family on the path of Entrepreneurship eventually and he believes whatever little success they have had has come in on the back of that friendship, love and partnership. “From being sweepers to the sales people to owners, we did it all together during the formative years of the business. I also know it would not have been easy to let go of her own, very successful business in India and walk the path with me instead. So – as far as influence goes – she has been the one person who has been holding my hand through more than half of my life”.
Atin also has a young daughter who has practically grown up in Singapore. “She keeps me grounded and she is one who brought about so many positive changes in our life. Chetna calls her an ‘Angel’ because of this as well as because of her unbelievably selfless nature and the laughter she carries with her. While I missed a large part of her growing up, she is the one person in our household who is just happy to spend time with us, give us an honest opinion on everything under the sun and is probably the smartest one”
An Exceptional Mother. Solid Foundations.
“To be a mother of a son is one of the most important things you can do to change the world. Raise them to respect women, raise them to stand up for others, raise them to be kind.” Shannon L. Alder
Atin was blessed to have a remarkable mother. She instilled in her two sons attribute/virtues of respect, sensitivity and moral uprightness. Mindful that they didn’t have any sister she raised them with emphasis on how to respect women , people.and being independent. “She always used to tell me that there are no sisters so you have to be very careful especially when you are dealing with women. If people came as part of being good hosts the boys were taught to serve the guests . As it pertains to influencing his career moves, Bhutani claims his mother who he was closest to and from whom he inherited his mannerisms was the driving force behind his move to Singapore saying “She was very fiercely protective that you go. So, because she saw my dad and her brothers, she said no to getting into family business at every stage through education and early career and she pushed me to get out of India. And Punjabis have this thing that you are successful if you are outside India.” And even as he made the move within a few months of his arrival, Bhutani’s mother was diagnosed with cancer but did not allow her son to forego the hard work and persevered by fighting strong during her battle with the disease.
It was his brother whom Bhutani credits with those hard times, saying “He’s the nicest person. He’s the nicest person anybody can know. He took care of mother that period and he was always there and he never lost his temper he never lost any anything.” Atin and his brother share a very close bond, one that is not lost on Bhutani, “And we are very close to each other and that to me is not very common.”
As part of his time at the helm of InCorp Group of Companies, Atin is grateful of the friendship and trust shown by his co-founder towards him. Bhutani has learnt to value trust in those you invest in, “After being a CEO making his money and having invested the money in me since 2015 till today he has not questioned me. That kind of trust and I have learnt that, if I make that kind of money and if I were to invest in someone, I will back them. Even if you make 2-3 mistakes I don’t care.”
And he keeps the relationship very, very, formal at work but informal and as a friend. When he talks you learn a lot from him, you talk to him he thinks a lot, he talks about things that are going to happen few years down the line. Has the ability to take the people along despite not talking a lot. So he’s been a great influence in professional life.
Bhutani’s leadership style is greatly focused at providing the best environment for his staff to thrive in. He takes annual employee surveys with great diligence and places emphasis in providing as many requests that come his way even while being aware that as the leader he can’t please everybody all the time. Still, he takes great pride in trying to address most of the feedback points whether it is through providing one of the better f&b spaces in a corporate space, or working on technology upgrade, software, hardware sanctions all are taken in right earnest even though there will be 20 percent attrition.Whether it is people management or talent retention, mergers or acquisitions Atin when necessary is capable of drawing the line and taking a hard call.
“It's a rare person who wants to hear what he doesn't want to hear. “-Dick Cavett
But his single greatest leadership quality is winning over clients, especially the most demanding ones. A case in point is of an irate client who he turned round to a relationship based on mutual trust and respect that grew after the person took all the criticism to his door and he patiently addressed every single challenge laid at his door. Bhutani says he always excelled in pressure environments as he recounts an example from his time at HSBC, “In general I have realized that I do very well if there is some sort of adversity. In banking when there is some sort of event or transaction happening
“Men of routine or men who can do what they are told are not hard to find; but men who can think and plan and tell the routine men what to do are very rare.”- William Graham Sumner
This extends to people/colleague relationships. Its rare to see people letting go of insecurity/ego, jealousy and becoming friends in a professional working atmosphere. “When I was given a larger role in Singapore HSBC, I was a individual transactor, I did very well so corporate banking head decided to elevate me. Make me head of the team so guys who were part of the team ended up reporting to me. So I lost two of the best RMs that had quit within two months of my taking over. So that is when I sat down with the rest of my team, see it is what it is. A year down the line, I want to stand in front of all of you and still deliver results and that will be huge success and 1 out of those two came back and worked for me and is now one of the closest friends. So that challenge I am always ready to take on.”
Atin is down to earth, not materialistic. “So beyond a point in time money will just be a number. There is a certain bare minimum I want to get to. It is not to buy great shoes or great watches. For me if it means I can retire by the time I am 50-55 that’s what I want to make.”
Given Bhutani’s achievements and success to-date he is not emotionally attached to his role as boss and has a cool perspective in being aware that should a takeover lay in the future and given he fulfilled the 5-year plan set out during the launch in 2015, Bhutani would be very comfortable in taking time off should that be the direction any future ownership might consider. He is after all a family man who enjoys the simple pleasures of watching movies on his sofa and going out for meals with his family and a keenness to travel the world
Outside of all the humdrum of money matters his passion lies in sports apart from travel. During his college and HSBC time he used to play cricket, volleyball, badminton table tennis teams. “In general adventure, adrenaline, I have done bungee jumping, any type of adventure ride I will be there. So those are the things I would love to do.”
Interesting traits of Atin- While watching the Movie – “As good as it Gets” starring Jack Nicholson he discovered that the character and he shared a similar trait of not stepping on cracked tiles on pavements/roads etc.
Leaving unfinished work is unsettling for him as he suffers from Monday morning blues, since he is unable to sleep on Sunday nights easily.
What puts him off – “People belittling or blaming despite me trying to make genuine attempt towards outcome that is beneficial for them. So it feels waste of energy, efforts etc. And secondly lack of ownership especially among senior guys.”
