The best coolers for your next picnic, tailgate, or camping trip
The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.
The Insider Pick:
Whether you're heading out for a weekend camping trip, an afternoon in the park, a tailgating party, or you're grilling in your own backyard, you'll need a cooler if you like cold drinks and fresh food. The Coleman Performance 48-Quart Cooler is our top pick because it's a true classic that stands the test of time with its incredible low price and three-day ice retention in 90-degree temperatures.
To the fisherman, a reliable cooler makes the difference between bringing home fresh fillets or wasting the catch as it spoils in the heat. At the tailgate party or picnic, a good cooler means cold beer and soda instead of warm swill. For the campers, a cooler keeps food chilled and safe for days on end even when the nearest refrigerator is a three-day hike back out of the woods. And so forth. Frankly, I feel confident that you know plenty about using coolers. When it comes to choosing a cooler, however, I think I can help.
I own four coolers, which I readily admit is a bit excessive. But they're just so damn handy, right? I only use two of them all that often, these being a large hard-shelled classic and a soft-sided compact cooler. There's nothing wrong with the other two coolers, one is just a bit small for the family and the fourth is simply redundant, yet I can't bring myself to part with it.
It's probably going to surprise you just how much some coolers cost. But what also might be a surprise is the fact that a great cooler can be a lifetime purchase. No, buying a cooler is not as important or complicated a decision as selecting a car or a major appliance, but you will almost surely have the cooler for many years more than any vehicle, fridge, or washing machine, so you owe it to yourself to choose wisely. Be ready to spend a few bucks if it turns out the cooler that best suits your needs happens to be pricey.
How to choose the right cooler
When choosing the best cooler for your needs, first consider where you will most often use the thing. That's the single most important factor, really. If a cooler is too big to bring along on a camping or fishing trip, it's essentially useless. If it can't retain ice well enough to keep things fresh during a weeklong stay in a cabin or camper, same deal. If its only purpose is for convenient beverage chilling in your own backyard during cookouts, that's going to have a huge impact on how much you need to spend.
Next, of course, you need to think about what you'll be keeping cold, and how much of it. It's easy to judge cooler capacity. Almost all coolers explicitly list their interior quart size and many state a can capacity. Also don't forget to note the overall size of the cooler, as some are much larger on the outside than their interior dimensions will have you think.
The five coolers on this list are all distinct from one another in multiple ways. There's a good chance that a few of them will be the outright wrong choice for some people, but there's a great chance that at least one will be the absolute best cooler for you. Read on to see which of our picks fits your needs.
Although the Coleman Performance 48-Quart Cooler is our top pick, for the reasons laid out in the slides below you should also consider the Igloo Marine Ultra Backpack Cooler, the YETI Tundra 75 Cooler, the Pelican Elite Soft Cooler, and the Rachael Ray Jumbo ChillOut Thermal Tote.
The best cooler overall
Coleman/Facebook
Why you'll love it: The Coleman Performance 48-Quart Cooler is a classic hard-shelled cooler with multi-day ice retention and an all but indestructible design.
If Coleman's cooler weren't such a simple, reliable, and all-around great piece of hardware, I would have called it the best low-cost cooler instead of the best overall cooler. It costs less than thirty dollars, but it will last you thirty years or more provided you take the time to wipe it clean now and then and you don't run over it with a truck.
This is the cooler your dad brought on family camping trips, it's the cooler of your childhood, and it's still an awesome buy.
Coleman's 48-quart cooler can hold 63 standard 12-ounce cans and is tall enough for two-liter soda bottles to stand upright with the lid closed. It's more than sturdy enough to double as a seat, yet still light enough for one rather fit person to heft alone or for two people to easily carry down the dock, into the park, or onto the beach. Empty, the cooler weighs about seven pounds, so you can easily lift it up onto the top shelf of the garage for storage, too.
The Coleman Performance 48-Quart Cooler has a drain built into the bottom so you can let out any spilled beverages or ice melt without dumping the entire contents, but for the record, there won't be much meltwater provided you keep the lid secure most of the time. This cooler offers three-day ice retention even when the mercury tops 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Oh, and this cooler is made in America, too.
It's no surprise that people love this thing — with hundreds of ratings logged, the Coleman Performance cooler gets a 4.2-star rating. One customer calls it "still the best design on the market," while another gets right to the important details, with his entire review consisting of four words: "It keeps beer cold."
In a write-up from ShedHeads.com, a gear tester called this cooler a "great icebox for beach days or picnics with the family," adding: "It’s also a versatile size that can be used for drinks at parties." A Sears Product Review video reviewer praised its "sturdy construction" and called it "great for our family."
Pros: Great price, sturdy construction, large capacity, trusted legacy brand
Cons: Hinges on lid prone to eventual breaking

The best cooler for work and commuting
Igloo/Business Insider
Why you'll love it: The Igloo Marine Ultra Backpack Cooler lets you go hands-free while carrying plenty of cold, fresh food that stays chilled for hours.
The Igloo Marine Ultra Backpack Cooler is not going to keep ice frozen for a week, but that's not what you buy it for. You chose this cooler because you need to keep a day's worth of food and beverages chilled and you don't want to lug around a bulky, boxy piece of hardware to do it.
Whether you work in construction, landscape design, field research, or any other profession that keeps you outdoors and/or often on the move (or if your hobbies involve spending the day outside), this is a great cooler to consider.
The Igloo Marine Ultra has a crush-resistant compartment accessed through a zippered top. It has the capacity for about a dozen 12-ounce cans, which is more than enough room for all the food and beverages a single person should need for a single day. The cooler has more than enough insulating foam to keep things cool all day provided you slip in an ice pack or two (or just a bag of ice) and keep the lid zipped shut.
A front zippered compartment is perfect for stashing a wallet, phone, and keys, while side pouches can hold a water bottle, piece of fruit, and so forth. The Igloo Marine Ultra Backpack Cooler has padded adjustable straps and should comfortably fit almost any teen or adult. Kiss the brown paper bag goodbye and keep things fresh and cool while you're on the go with this handy backpack cooler.
Most people who own a Marine Ultra love it. One gentleman who relies on the backpack daily for work says: "The insulation in this cooler is impressive and much better than the majority of soft-sided coolers that I have previously used." Another satisfied owner said simply that it's "extra easy to carry."
Professional reviewers also love this backpack cooler. A writer with wiki.ezvid.com noted that it has "plenty of foam to keep your food cool," while the gear testers at Best Cooler Reviews said the Igloo Marine Ultra was capable and durable and lauded its "leak resistant anti-microbial liner."
Pros: Great for commuting or travel, adjustable straps for comfort, additional storage areas
Cons: Only maintains chill for about a day at best
Buy the Igloo Marine Ultra Backpack Cooler on Amazon for $39.98
The best cooler for long-term use
Yeti
Why you'll love it: The YETI Tundra 75 Cooler can keep ice frozen for more than a week even if you're using it in the middle of the summer.
To deal with the elephant in the room first, yes, this cooler costs almost five hundred dollars. That's a lot of money to spend on a cooler, no two ways about it. But for that price, you will get one of the absolute best coolers on the market today. Let's just rattle off a few highlights, shall we?
The YETI Tundra 75 Cooler's rugged rotomolded design makes it tough enough to be certified as bear-resistant. That's right, in a fight between a bear and this cooler, the cooler will probably win. Its three-inch thick PermaFrost insulation and ColdLock gasket allow the cooler to keep ice frozen for days on end. You can expect at least a week of sub-zero temperatures within provided you loaded it up with sufficient ice.
It has a 50-can capacity and also comes with a dry goods basket that holds a selection of foodstuffs above the ice. Its BearFoot non-slip feet and AnchorPoint tie-down points help you to secure the cooler in the bed of a truck or aboard a boat.
Do most people need this level of cooler? Probably not. But if you're a serious fisherman, if you're on a road trip and you want to stay self-sufficient, or if you're stocking a cabin or campsite for an extended stay, you'll be glad you have the YETI Tundra 75 at your disposal, no buyer's remorse involved. Just note that the cooler weighs 30 pounds even when empty, so if you have trouble lifting heavier loads, you might need to look elsewhere.
One wilderness guide left a review saying: "The YETI legends are true. This is one badass cooler. We have left this cooler sitting in the sun on our back patio and found cold beer and ice cubes 5 days later." Overall, the cooler has a 4.5-star rating.
A video reviewer with Able2Survive conducted a seven-day test and deemed the cooler a success, showing that a decent amount of the ice he loaded in on day one remained frozen a week later. A writer with CoolersOnSale.com was impressed with the cooler's "ice retention time" and its tough construction.
Pros: Amazing ice retention, rugged construction, great for boating or long road trips
Cons: Very expensive, very heavy
Buy the YETI Tundra 75 Cooler on Amazon for $449.99

Diving in Komodo: Dragons, Dolphins & Mantas
Komodo National Park is located in the Lesser Sundra Islands in Eastern Indonesia. Most famous for being home to the largest lizard on Earth, the Komodo Dragon (for which the park is named), there is also another reason why explorers have flocked to this archipelago for decades.
The scuba diving in this part of Indonesia is some of the best in the world. Sitting well within the coral triangle, the seas here boast the richest marine biodiversity found anywhere, with healthy corals, abundant fish life and large pelagic like manta rays, eagle rays, shark and also sometimes dolphin and pilot whales.
NOTE: Don’t miss our Diving In Komodo video at the bottom of this post!
An Eagle Ray Flying Along The Ocean Floor in Komodo
Dariece and I were in Komodo National Park back in 2009 on our first year-long trip and while we did get to see the dragons, I didn’t end up doing any diving. Since leaving the area, I heard countless people ask me “You went to Komodo and didn’t dive?!”.
This year I finally had the opportunity to return to these fabled islands and experience the underwater world of Komodo National Park.
I was contacted by The Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia back in June and when they told me about the trip that they had planned, I was beyond thrilled to be invited. The Trip of Wonders 2017 took 10 bloggers and online influencers to 3 of Indonesia’s Best Dive Locations, Alor, Komodo and Raja Ampat.
Komodo was our second stop of the trip and as I sat in my plane seat, gazing out the window at the scattering of emerald islands in the sea, my friend Justin leaned over and told me that this is the best dive location he had ever been to. Coming from a guy who’s done over 5000 dives and is on a mission to see the top 100 dive sites, this was a big statement.
I couldn’t wait to land and get in the water.
There are no hotels or towns on the islands in the National Park as they are protected, so visitors have to either stay in Labuan Bajo (the gateway to Komodo) or join a live aboard dive boat. Our trip was on the latter and I highly recommend the experience.
Our Liveaboard Boat in Komodo National Park
In this post I’m going to not only tell my story of the incredible diving trip in Komodo, but also give you all of the logistics, costs and itineraries so that if you want to plan a similar trip, you can easily do so.
Getting There
We flew from Alor to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) in Flores where we met up with the liveaboard boat. The journey to get from Alor to LBJ was easy enough, but most people won’t likely be travelling from Alor as it’s rather off track. I’ll include my itinerary as well as the more common routes that you’d likely take if you were to visit Komodo.
I’ll also include the ferry routes to get to Komodo as many people reading this are likely on a longer Indonesian trip.
Flights
My Route: Alor to Komodo
We flew from Alor to Kupang and then onward to Labuan Bajo. The best flights to take this journey are with Wings Air as they typically only have a quick 20 minute stop over in Kupang and cost as little as $75 one-way or $140 return (prices vary).
Bali To Komodo
Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia Air Transport (IAT), Merpati Airlines, TransNusa, Sky Aviation and Wings Air (Lionair) all fly from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo (Komodo Airport), providing daily non-stop 1 hour flights between them costing around $80 one-way or $150 return.
Jakarta to Komodo
Garuda has daily non-stop 2.5 hour flights from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo for around $175 one-way and $350 return depending on the season, while other airlines like PT Nam and Swirijaya Air will have a stopover in Bali.
Boats
The port in Labuan Bajo is located in the middle of town and you can walk from there into town within 5 – 10 minutes.
From Sape (Rp 56,000)
There are twice daily ferries from Sape in Sumbawa that arrive in Labuan Bajo at around 4 pm, while the journey from Labuan Bajo to Sape leaves at around 9 am. Both directions cost Rp 56,000. There’s also a speedboat that runs three times a week, takes only 3 hours and costs Rp 130,000 per person.
The Goats With Some Friends on a Ferry to Flores in 2009
There are also some companies that do 2 night / 3 day trips from Lombok to Flores for Rp 170,000. You generally sleep on mats on the deck. We were on one of these boats in 2009 and while they’re not comfortable and everyone seems to smoke, they’re an adventure. You can also rent cabins on these boats for around Rp 2,600,000.
Bus
There are great bus and boat combos that can get you to Labuan Bajo as well. When we were in Indonesia in 2009, we opted to be as independent as possible and tried to book everything separately. This turned out to be a mistake. Not only did we waste time and energy bargaining (and getting ripped off) for transport all along the way, it also ended up costing us more than the VIP bus / boat combo.
To book the combo ticket, you’ll have to head into a tour office on whatever island you’re on, and ask about VIP Bus / Boat Service to get you to Flores. From Gili Islands and Lombok, the journey will be around 24 hours and will likely cost you around Rp 350,000-450,000 including all transfers and ferry tickets.
The Accommodation
While most serious divers will probably want to join a liveaboard to get the most of the islands around Komodo National park (like we did), there are also cheaper options like staying in Labuan Bajo and heading out on day dives to the closer sites. I’ll list both options below.
Livaboards
There are numerous dive shops in Labuan Bajo that can take you out to some dive sites in Komodo, but without a doubt the best way to experience the diving in the National Park is to join a liveaboard.
These massive ships often have numerous cabins for sleeping, comfortable chilling areas and even air conditioning sometimes.
We joined the Embun Laut boat and as it was my first liveaboard, I don’t have much point of reference, but I thought it was pretty amazing. There were a few very small and very basic cabins, but all had AC and there was plenty of room to chill out and relax on the upper 2 decks between dives (the boat had three levels).
If you want to get on the same liveaboard that we took, you can check them out at CND Dive, but there are also a lot of different companies to choose from. Shop around to find the best deal for you.
Note: One huge bonus of the Embun Laut livaboard is that we had Condo on our team. This 57-year-old legend has been diving in Komodo National Park since 1987, has over 10,000 dives under his belt and he helped discover and map many of the dive sites in the region. With Condo, we knew we were in good hands.
Liveaboards in Komodo National Park
I did some research and found that the prices of Livaboards in Komodo vary greatly, but many of them are a great value. Our boat had very basic rooms, while some other ones look like they’re quite a bit more luxurious.
Embun Laut with CND Dive (Our Boat)
Our boat was really large with nice chillout areas on 3 different levels – 4 if you include the roof of the top level where I chilled out and watched the bats fly overhead. Most of the rooms were pretty small, but they were pretty comfortable (although the bed didn’t have sheets or blankets). I was pretty comfortable sleeping here and it was great to have aircon in the rooms.
You generally have to charter the full boat (max 10 people) which will cost $5,460 on a 2 night 3 day trip (like we did). Divide the total by 10 and it works out to be $546 per person for 3 days including transport to the dive sites, 3 dives a day and all food and non-alcoholic drinks.
Calico Jack
You can hop on the Calico Jack for $3,760 on a 12 day trip including a cabin, all food, beverages and diving. That works out to be around $313 / day, but if you facter in the cost of the transport, accommodation, food, drinks and diving, it’s not so bad.
La Galigo
This 33 meter long dive boat can take passengers on a 7-night dive trip in Komodo for around $3,300 including everything that the Calico Jack includes. The La Galigo dive boat looks like a pirate ship in the water and has some beautiful and comfortable rooms.
Best Hotels in Labuan Bajo
There are numerous hotels that are right in Labuan Bajo and some of them also have a resident dive shop, but because the town is so small, it’s not necessary to only stay in dive hotels as you can simply walk to the nearest dive shop to organize your diving. Here are the best hotels in Labuan Bajo based on traveller ratings and ratings on Booking.com.

The rooms here cost around $75 per night depending on the season and are quite comfortable looking. They also have dorms for just $12 per night. The hostel offers daily dive trips to Komodo as well as snorkelling and other tours.

Diving in Komodo
Okay, now we get to the best part. The diving in Komodo is incredible. We saw manta rays, eagle rays, sea snakes, countless turtles, sharks, crocodile fish and clouds of reef fish so thick that they nearly blocked the sunlight on some dives.
I’m going to list all of the dive sites that we went to as they were some of the best, but I’ll also list some of the other dive sites that we missed out on, in case you visit Komodo on a longer trip or end up doing more dives.
Our Dives
Manta Point (Aka Manta Alley)
This shallow, easy dive would be pretty uneventful if it wasn’t for all of the Selachimorpha (shark) species swimming around. There are plenty of eagle rays and reef sharks here, but of course the main reason this dive site is so popular is the presence of the massive, slow-moving manta rays that often gracefully fly by.
A Massive 6ft Wide Manta Ray at Manta Alley Dive Site
We were lucky enough to see three manta rays on two separate dives here, as well as an eagle ray, reef sharks and a few turtles. The highlight of this dive is without a doubt the manta sightings which will go down as one of my best favourite experiences of all time.
The massive creature with a six foot wingspan flew right at me before banking left and disappearing into the shadows. Amazing.
Batu Balong
This massive drop off dive was probably my favourite of the Komodo trip. We went down to around 28 meters and looked up at a massive coral crusted cliff. Dozens of turtles were grazing on the corals to our right, while sharks and tuna swam by in the shadowy blue waters to our left.
This dive site is known to have some of the strongest currents in the region and it is considered to be one of the most dangerous as well, so make sure you keep close to your dive guide.
Gili Lawa (Night Dive)
We decided to do Gili Lawa as a night dive and as it was my first one, I was ecstatic to get in the water and see what diving is like in pitch black. We carried torches and descended to about 20 meters, where we found reef sharks, squid, octopus and lion fish all trying to get some sleep while we momentarily harassed them with our lights and cameras.
A Squid Attracted To Our Flashlights at 17 meters
Castle Rock
Another one of my favourite dives in Komodo, this one brought us down to around 32 meters on a gently sloping reef. As soon as we got down to the bottom, we saw a massive grey shark eerily swimming back and forth in the deeper water.
There were also about a half-dozen reef sharks swimming around the corals and we saw some large traveli, criolle wrasse, a crocodile fish and an enormous school of banner fish that must’ve been 1000 strong.
Other Dive Sites In Komodo
Crystal Rock
This sea mount dive maxes out at around 35 meters and is located between Castle Rock and Gili Lawa dive sites. You can find morays, stonefish, crocodile fish, day octopus and giant lionfish as well as yellow-ribbon sweetlips, surgeonfish, and anthias.
The Cauldron
This 20 meter super fast drift dive is located in a channel between Gili Lawa Laut and Gili Lawa Durat. The currents can reach 3 knots here and they fire divers over rich corals and glass fish. You can spot rays, sharks and crocodile fish here as well.
Wai Ni Loo
This is one of the best macro dives in Indonesia so it’s best to have a good lens to capture the many small reef animals that call this dive site their home. There are also plenty of porcupine fish, triggerfish, scrawled filefish, and giant pufferfish.
Bonsai
This dive site is easy for the boats to spot because it’s marked by a massive, lonely mangrove tree that’s perched alone on a rock in the sea. Below the surface you’ll find swim-throughs, overhangs, caves and valleys going all the way down to 35 meters depth.
This is where many fish species including napoleon wrasse, large emperor sweetlips, hawksbill turtles, giant puffers and grouper sometimes seek shelter.
Things To Know About Diving in Komodo
While there are some advanced dives in Komodo (as well as some advanced planning needed to make the most of your trip) it’s really not too difficult to plan a trip here. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
The Best Time of Year For Diving in Komodo
While you can dive in Komodo year-round, the best time to visit Komodo for a dive trip is from April to June, during the dry season. This is the period of time just after the rainy season and the fish life is most-abundant in these months.
The rainy season starts in November and carries on until March and while diving is still possible during this time, visibility and dive schedules can be limited due to weather, although it only usually rains for around 2 hours per day.
July and August are the best months for spotting mantas as this is when the cooler seas promote massive plankton blooms, attracting the winged beasts from the deeper waters.
The worst months are probably January and March when there is heavy rainfall, stronger currents and often choppy surface conditions. It’s still possible to dive during this time, but it may not be as enjoyable as in the high season.
Dangers of Diving Komodo
The most dangerous thing in Komodo, like many of the best dive locations in Indonesia, is the sometimes unpredictable current. If you go with a reputable dive shop, dive well within your certification limits, and stick close to your dive guide and your group, you’ll be absolutely fine.
Specifically Castle Rock and Batu Balong can have strong currents, so make sure you listen to your dive guide and only visit dive sites as the conditions permit.
There is no hyperbaric chamber in Komodo or Labuan Bajo at the time of writing, but there are talks of adding it into the hospital that was built in 2016 in LBJ. The lack of decompression treatment facilities is all the more reason to dive within the limits of your dive tables and stick close to your group.
Dive Insurance For Komodo National Park
We have used and recommend World Nomads Travel Insurance in the past and can honestly recommend them for pricing and service. There are a great insurance company for long-term travellers and adventure travellers because they cover a lot of activities (including diving) and you can apply while you’re already on the road.
Here is some information from the World Nomads website:
Scuba Diving & Travel Insurance
If you want to scuba dive on your travels, we totally understand why. But if you’re not properly trained before you dive into your underwater adventure, the risk of serious accident can be substantial. That’s why, to be covered you either must:
be certified, that is, hold a valid scuba diving licence
dive under qualified and licensed instruction if not certified
dive no deeper than your dive license allows and/or your policy allows
What we cover
Recreational scuba diving is only covered when you choose the right plan or adventure sport option when buying your policy . Then, if something goes wrong there’s cover for:
Overseas medical expenses for sudden illness or serious injury
Medical evacuation to the nearest facility for treatment
Treatment in a decompression chamber if required
Repatriation home if something serious has happened
To get a free travel insurance quote from World Nomads, just enter your information below:
The best way to avoid getting the bends with no decompression chamber nearby is to dive well within the limitations of the dive tables and start the day with your deepest dive, progressively getting shallower with each dive that follows. It’s also a good idea to dive with a dive computer. I use and recommend Aqua Lung i200.
Non-Diving Highlights of Komodo
While the diving is world-class in Komodo, it’s not the only thing that draws thousands of people to these remote islands in eastern Indonesia. There are also plenty of above the water activities in the region.
Seeing Komodo Dragons
There are Komodo Dragons on a few of the islands in the National Park, the most common (and the place where the dragons tend to be the largest) is on Komodo Island, but another popular spot and where we went, is Rinca Island.
These are the largest reptiles in the world and they can be spotted lounging in the sun or slowly walking around the desert-like landscape. Some visitors have even had the opportunity to see them munching on massive buffalo that they’ve hunted and killed.
Most people will book a trip to Komodo as a day trip, or a trip added on to a liveaboard dive trip. Prices for a full-day tour from Labuan Bajo including lunch, transport, park entrance fees and a bit of snorkelling are usually around $140 – $175 USD per person.
Watch The Bats at Sunset
There are some tours that can be organized from Labuan Bajo that will take you out on a boat to see the massive bats fly out of their caves at dusk. It’s quite a sight and worth a trip. The bats are enormous and there are so many of them that they cloud the skies.
If you’re on a liveaboard boat for a few days, they’ll likely park somewhere that you can see the bats, but if this is something you really want on your itinerary, you should confirm with your operator.
Sunrise and Star Walk at Gili Lawa
I highly recommend getting up early (no matter how much you hate mornings) to check out the sunrise on the top of the hill on Gili Lawa. If you’re on a liveaboard, the trip is quite easy. You can wake up at 3:30 in the morning, take a small boat to Gili Lawa, hike up the hill for 30 minutes and then wait for the spectacle to begin.
Should You Go Diving in Komodo?
The answer to this question is yes. 100%. Whether you’re an experienced diver or you just completed your open water course, Komodo has diving for all levels. It’s hard to explain exactly how incredible the diving is in this part of the world, but you’re basically swimming around an aquarium that seems to have too many fish in a confined space.
But the space isn’t confined, it’s the entire Savu Sea and the coral triangle will blow your mind at every turn, at every dive site. This isn’t even to mention the breathtaking topography above the water.
Komodo National Park was listed as one of the New 7 Natural Wonders and when you see it, you’ll understand why. From the massive dragons and mantas, to the sunrises and sunsets over the rippled hills, Komodo is the durasic park of our world.
Go there. Put it on your bucket list. Post a picture of the islands up on your wall. This is one of the mose beautiful regions on Earth.

“AT-AT-Spotting”. Like “Trainspotting”.
I am adding my first video from Star Wars Battlefront (2015) to the myriads of such videos already on Youtube and other places. But, I hope mine is different. You see, I don't care about online battles, scores, "umpteen kills - no deaths", or anything competitive, really. I enjoy quick singleplayer shootings, and, probably even more I enjoy this game as an theme park tourist place, where I can watch in peace how AT-ATs walk buy, and Star Destroyers fall from the sky. In peace - how? Well, thanks to game mods for that, namely - "Cinematic mode". No AI, no mission objectives, just me and cool machinery of Star Wars. I especially enjoy watching AT-AT-s. So, "AT-AT-Spotting", I guess. Majestic, mesmerizing, colossal. Mechanical moving piece of art. With attention to detalization and overall graphics quality in this game, those are gorgeous sights. I will probably make more clips like this. Like chillout and lucid dreaming meditation sessions.
I had a providence moment that led me to get this game exactly that moment when price dropped to almost-free-5euros. I had it on free hours trial, I felt I finally need it. I was even considering those 30 euros to pay. Thanks to Higher Forces that prolonged my consideration time, and price dropped.
Technical thoughts: my PC has decent CPU and RAM, but graphic card is, well, far from top performers. Actually, it is named as “minimum” for this game: GeFoce GTX660. And I am surprised how it handles. I did not know that she can deliver in some game such beauty and decent framerates. In this game, she can.

You can go practically anywhere in the world and find a happening, chic bar or lounge made entirely of ice, and usually featuring colorful lights and intricate sculptures. From Scandinavia and Alaska to Australia and southeast Asia, I have learned that you do not have to live in wintery conditions to enjoy a drink at a frigid ice bar, which may not sound appealing, but once you see these photos, I think you will agree not to knock it till ya try it. Even the tropics have ice bars, which if you think about it may be even more popular than in a place like Sweden, which is known for being cold. Anyway, since alcohol warms you up, where better to throw a few back than a place specifically designed to chill you out? It may seem that there could be few variations between all these ice bars, but that could not be farther from the truth. Some are open year-round while some are only open in the winter, some are cave-like while others are part of a big club, some offer food while others only serve drinks; the differences are vast, making the 15 global icy hotspots on this list all the more interesting. In the end, there are too many ice bars on our planet to list here, but there are 15 that definitely deserve a closer look. Our world has ice hotels, ice saunas, ice cities, and everything else made of ice that you could ever think of. Here, I give you the world’s 15 “coolest” ice bars, located  in the arctic, the desert, the tropics, and mild climates, as well.
#1 Minus 5 Ice Bar, New York City The Minus 5 Ice Bar is located in several cities across the United States. It is in the Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo hotels in Las Vegas, the Hilton in New York City, and the Pointe Orlando in Florida. They are all amazing places to have a drink or attend a party, but we’ll focus on the Manhattan location. Everyone knows that New York City is one of the greatest places to go in winter, especially at Christmas time with the tree in Rockefeller Center. Now, you can go any time of year and experience New York in “winter” by visiting Minus 5 in the lobby of the New York Hilton Midtown. They offer several Ice Experience Packages, from the $19 “The Experience Package”, which includes time in the bar, a parka, and gloves, to the largest package, the $75 Total VIP Experience that includes a specialty ice cocktail, a faux fur coat upgrade, gloves, a souvenir hat, and one five-by-seven framed photo (a $100 value). This magical setting is also available for private events.
#2 Ice Kube Bar, Paris Paris’ Ice Kube Bar is located on the mezzanine of the Kube Hotel in France’s capital city. It is advertised as being Paris’ one and only ice bar, and it reinvents its appearance each year. Somehow the ice bar is described as “cozy”, even though its 2,000 patrons per month practically freeze inside of it. Fittingly, it is inspired by the North Pole (designed by the Crystal Group), and has a lounge and a dance floor in addition to just the bar area. The “translucent igloo”, as it is described on its website, was made from 20 tons of ice. The temperature is kept at 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and for roughly $30 (29 Euros), guests receive a 25-minute session and four vodka-based cocktails. Cheaper rates are available for guests staying at the Kube Hotel, and reservations are required. Valet parking and private ice sessions are available upon request. Swanky!
#3 Ice Pub, Prague One of the hottest cities in central Europe, Prague, Czech Republic is home to the equally hot Ice Pub, where the walls, bar, tables, and sculptures are made entirely of ice. It is located inside of central Europe’s biggest music club, Karlovy Lazne, which only adds to its coolness (pun intended). The Ice Pub is kept at negative seven degrees all the time, and customers can enjoy their time there in 30-minute increments. A thermal jacket and gloves are provided, and the club-goers look more like astronauts than regular folks out for a good time when they bundle up in matching silver parkas and hats. The ambiance of the place in general is other-worldly, so it works. From noon until 9:00, the admission is 200 CZK ($7.75 USD), and it includes one cocktail. At night, the entrance to the Ice Pub is free, but you must purchase one cocktail in advance. Online, better deals are available.
#4 Hotel de Glace, Quebec City The perfect place to “chill out” if you happen to be in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada is in the ice lounge of the Hotel de Glace, the city’s all-ice hotel. Quebec’s capital city boasts this beautiful hotel formed from 15,000 tons of snow and 500 tons of ice, and even though it looks enchanting, some may prefer to just stop by the bar for a drink instead of spending the whole night on one of the beds made of ice. North America’s only ice hotel features this bar that looks like it came right out of the movie Frozen, and the drinks are served in ice block shooters, although reviews claim the prices were quite high (worth it for the experience, but high nonetheless). For $17.50, you can wander the ice palace and see what else it has to offer besides the bar, like the grand hall, ice slide, chapel, and more.
#5 Ice Bariloche, San Carlos de Bariloche South America’s first ice bar is Ice Bariloche, situated in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche in southwest Argentina. In the midst of Alpine-styled architecture at the foot of the Andes mountain range in Patagonia, Ice Bariloche has a laid-back atmosphere. Inside, there are two bars, small tables, and low armchairs. There is also an igloo and quite contrary to that, a fireplace. Mammoth and Mongol soldier statues decorate the dimly-lit lounge, and according to some reviews, the icing on the cake is the “pretty barwomen”. There is a projection screen that reflects ice crystals onto the wall, ice-carved glasses, good music, and a certain “fog sensation” described by those who have visited the place. One reviewer wrote that, “It was like going into a glacier but feeling the comfort of a living room.” But perhaps best of all, Ice Bariloche features a resident yeti with whom you can take photos.
#6 Ice Barcelona, Barcelona Since 2007, Ice Barcelona has been a city favorite frequented by Spanish locals and tourists, alike. It was the world’s first ice bar located at the beach, El Somorrostro Beach, to be precise. It was designed by internationally-renowned artists, and the lounge’s theme is changed at least twice every year to keep things fun and fresh. On average, visitors will spend 45 minutes in the bar, where the temperature is kept at 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice Barcelona offers an alfresco ice terrace in which guests can relax while looking out onto the Mediterranean Sea, and they have several specialty packages to choose from. There is something for everyone between the Family, Party, Birthday, Hen, and Stag packages, among others. Prices range from $47 to $340 for the packages, but it is not necessary to purchase a package to drink at this ice bar. Ice Barcelona is also available to host press conferences, photo sessions, cinema and publicity, brunches, private parties, company cocktails, and product launches.
#7 Chillout Dubai, Dubai The first ice bar in the Middle East is the United Arab Emirates’ Chillout Dubai. Donning a hooded parka and wool gloves, visitors first spend a few minutes in a “buffer zone” to get acclimated to the sub-zero temperatures that are kept at a cool 21 degrees Fahrenheit in the actual lounge area. According to chilloutindubai.com, “It is a technological innovation in refrigeration, lighting, and architecture… It is an interesting combination of ice, glass, and steel. The diffused lighting changes its colors at certain intervals and it filters through crystal clear blocks of ice, filling them with low-lux hues of varying patterns.” Since Dubai has some very strict drinking laws, the lounge serves a variety of light meals, and of course, mock-tails. Located in the Times Square Center Dubai, the Chillout Dubai also hosts corporate events, film shoots, and private parties.
#8 IceBar Melbourne, Melbourne Australia’s only ice bar is the IceBar Melbourne, in the coastal city of Melbourne in southeastern Australia. Hailed as the “coolest place in town”, a group of patrons recently set the record for the longest stay inside the freezing cold bar: seven and a half hours! Jono Bentley and Robyn Crawford won the challenge, which is ongoing if you happen to be in Melbourne and are up for the task. Employees of this ice bar are lovingly referred to as “Eskimos”, and keeping with its fun nature, the IceBar Melbourne hosts several weekly events, such as Menopause Mondays and Student Night. Like most of the other ice bars, this one hosts events like corporate team building and hens/bucks/birthday parties. Standard entry, which includes snow gear and one cocktail, is $35 AUD, or about $25 USD. Prices vary depending on if you want non-alcoholic entry, entry with a photo, or a premium or deluxe entry.
#9 Drinkhouse Fire & Ice Lounge, Miami Beach We all know that Miami is a hotspot for some of the country’s hottest bars. It also boasts one of the coolest, the Drinkhouse Fire and Ice. It is an ice vodka bar and fire lounge. When you attend this swanky new bar, first you will select a plush fur coat, and enjoy a drink in the Experimental Cocktail Fire Lounge before entering the 23-degree ice bar. There is an upscale dress code that is strictly enforced, even though outfits are not visible beneath all the winter gear. The website advises to overdress if you are unsure about your outfit being too casual. The founders of Miami’s first ice bar and fire lounge are local entrepreneurs and humanitarians, Sally Drinkhouse and Nicole Pritchett, who created this place as an escape of sorts. They hope their brainchild will stimulate and energize guests in the atmosphere that features rare crystals, molecular cocktails, and contrasting hot and cold environments.
#10 SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar, Getaway Cruise Ship A few of the luxury cruise liners in the Norwegian Cruise Lines fleet feature ice bars on their ships. On the Getaway ship, the bar is called SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar, featuring (obviously) specialty SVEDKA vodka and Inniskillin ice wine cocktails. The 17-degree bar that is located on the ship’s eighth deck is decorated in the Art Deco style, with elements such as the iconic Ocean Drive skyline and palm trees etched into the ice walls. There is a life-size alligator throne, too. Prices are just $20 and that includes two signature cocktails. The Florida-inspired ice bar can hold 25 guests at any given time. The Getaway’s sister ship, the Breakaway, features an ice bar inspired by another favorite American city, New York City. This ice bar is decorated with ice sculptures of the Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building, and Statue of Liberty. The temperature, pricing, and capacity are the same as the Getaway’s ice bar.
#11 Aurora Ice Bar, Fairbanks Alaska is the perfect setting for an ice bar, is it not? In the city of Fairbanks, Alaska lies the Aurora Ice Museum and Bar. Built in 2005 out of snow and ice from the Chena Hot Springs Resort, it was once a hotel (interestingly, the hotel was once closed because they did not have sufficient smoke detectors). The bar’s signature drink is the appletini, served in a souvenir ice-carved martini glass. There is an ice fireplace (weird), sparkling ice chandeliers, and stools covered in caribou fur. This place is open year-round thanks to its patented absorption chiller that keeps it frozen 365 days a year, even when temperatures reach 80 degrees in the summer, and the sun shines for 24 hours a day. Just in case you are in Alaska without your parka, one will be provided to you. This beautiful bar may be a part of a museum, but it is no ordinary stuffy museum, and more importantly, the bar is every bit as hot as all of the rest of them on this list. Next door to it is the hot springs resort, so it is common practice for tourists and locals to take a dip in the natural 106-degree hot springs, then cool off in the 25-degree ice bar.
#12 Rio Ice Bar, Rio de Janeiro Brazilian drinkers were a bit skeptical of the ice bar idea at first, but since opening almost one year ago, people have warmed up to the Rio Ice Bar in Barra da Tijuca, Brazil. Made from 130 tons of ice, the idea was to bring a little bit of cold to Rio during its annual Carnival celebration, which takes place during the hottest time of year. It took 20 days to make, and was transported from Sao Paulo to Rio in two refrigerated trucks. The climate-controlled antechamber of the bar is recommended for no more than 20 minutes at a time, although the complimentary beer and shot of sake will undoubtedly make the frozen third of an hour just a bit warmer. A photo with the Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain ice sculptures are also included in the price of $15. This bar has sofas and tables made of ice tinted in a glacial blue hue, and has been called a reverse sauna. It is a must-see for tourists of course, but Brazilians themselves were awe-struck by this place, as most of them have not spent much time around snow, ice, or in cold temperatures!
#13 IceBar by IceHotel, Stockholm The IceBar by IceHotel in Sweden’s capital city is located conveniently in the city center close to shopping and sites. It is in the same building as the Nordic C Hotel, which is beautiful in its own right. Built in 2002 as the world’s first permanent ice bar, the interior of this ice bar is renewed each April with masses of ice from the Torne River in northern Sweden. Up to 60 people at a time can enjoy a variety of cocktails in icy glasses for 40 minutes each. Open all year round, temperatures are kept at 19 degrees Fahrenheit, and this Arctic world and its artistic lighting and unique interior are considered a piece of art. Polar magic, if you will. Until April 2017, the theme is “Wild Encounters”, meaning there are ice sculptures of brown bears and wolves, and a whole ice forest to walk through. The upcoming New Year’s Eve party will be epic, and IceBar by IceHotel also offers after-work get-togethers, romantic dinner events, and ice-sculpting classes. IceBar by IceHotel advertises that a drink in their bar is like no other drink in the world- ice cold, glimmering, and unique.
#14 IceBar London, London The great city of London has the UK’s only permanent ice bar, called, fittingly, IceBar London. The founding architects of IceHotel, Ben Rousseau and Ake Larsson, designed it. One of the coolest themes it’s had over the years was “Galactic Frontiers”, pictured above. They used 43 tons of ice to create their masterpiece over six days, which included large planet scenes and a model of planet Earth. The current theme is “Wild in the City”, and previous themes have included “Factory”, “Aquatic”, “Disco”, “Purity with a Twist”, etc. This year’s New Year’s Eve party will have a theme of “Speakeasy”. Each new theme continues the IceBar tradition of the innovation and style that it has become known for. If you attend this ice bar, you will be given a designer thermal hooded cape and gloves for your 40-minute visit. It will cost you anywhere from $14-$26 USD for admission, and even the most standard package comes with at least one spirit-based cocktail.
#15 Below Zero Ice Bar, Queenstown The Below Zero Ice Bar in Queenstown, New Zealand, is dubbed Australasia’s largest and greatest ice bar. If you consider what a massive portion of the world Australasia is, that is really saying something. Hand-sculpted by some of the world’s best ice carvers, everything from the walls to the furniture is made from crystal clear ice. They provide the coat, gloves, and boots so that patrons can be toasty warm while experiencing the frosty cold. Admission can be purchased with or without cocktails and shots included, and the prices are reasonable, ranging from $11-$59 USD. Most travel websites give this joint four to five stars, so it seems like it would be an excellent choice should you ever be in the Queenstown area and feel like literally chilling out. The neon lights, animal furs, carved ice animals, and yummy cocktails make this a must-see in New Zealand.

Money Ideas/Investments and Writing Midas Touch Ideas post one from 2007 Amazon Purchases
Money Ideas/Investments and Writing Midas Touch Ideas post one from 2007 Amazon Purchases51 orders placed in 2007 I Stella Carrier must preface sharing my Amazon purchases of 2007-2017  for money investment/money ideas/writing ideas and other uses by making it clear that me doing this has very little to do with my current food services job. The truth is that I am fully aware of how fortunate I am to have the job that I do at the University of Maryland College Park food service. My last day at work was May 17, 2017 and I am approved to return August 13, 2017. Many of my coworkers are actually easy to work with and I have fair managers. I admit that I am a temporary seasonal employee who realized more and more within the past two weeks that I would like a year round/more permanent job, and this indirectly influences some of my thoughts and behaviors at times. I have to preface this online activity because I have been getting too many well-meaning online communications in the form of help thinking that the way I am conducting myself has to do with how I feel about my coworkers. However, that is far from the case and I am actually aware that it is up to me in steering my career/job destiny towards having year round more permanent employment. I felt it necessary to preface this so that it is understood that how I am conducting myself online has more to do with wanting to improve my writing and communication skills while working on my year round employment goals which is actually separate and compartmentalized from my temporary/seasonal job. At the time I placed this orders; My husband and I were living on the Mayport Naval Base in Mayport Florida through the U.S. Navy ORDER PLACEDJanuary 6, 2007 Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (DVD-ROM) [CD] [Windows XP] WindowsWindows (Primary Contributor)Sold by: gamejuice Ordered on January 29, 2007 Awakening the Higher Self: A Journey into your SoulTerra Sonora Sold by: Amazon.com LLC The Unwritten Rules of the Highly Effective Job Search: The Proven Program Used by the Worlds Leading Career Services CompanyOrville PiersonSold by: Amazon.com LLC The Reverse Diet: Lose 20, 50, 100 Pounds or More by Eating Dinner for Breakfast and Breakfast for DinnerTricia Cunningham, Heidi SkolnikSold by: Amazon.com LLC$16.47 Secondhand Chic: Finding Fabulous Fashion at Consignment, Vintage, and Thrift StoresChrista WeilSold by: Amazon.com LLC$20.95 Live Your Life for Half the Price: Without Sacrificing the Life You Love (Debt-Proof Living)Mary M. Day 8, 5/7/2017
Right now here is just more like a place for me to keep my diary rather than a report on the experiment any more. I kinda have the habit just to go on here and start journal my day and thoughts.
Life starts getting busy when I can walk. More people to talk to, more conversations to make, more filter to put when I’m thinking about what to record down.
I met Hawaiian today. Honestly I am so grateful that he would still talk to me like this without being awkward. Guys with ego that high wouldn’t talk to a girl who likes him so much and not being pretentious. But he really made this so easy for me, for me to make a normal conversation, for me to make some easy chit chat and be content with knowing those tiny pieces of his life. Tiny is enough.
“Some people have charm, some just don’t” Ebelle told me. From the second he walked in with a cowboy hat and a scarf tied to his belt and turned around and said “what are you doing here” I knew this is the definition of effortless charismatic. UGH I HATE THIS. Actually it’s not bad, last conversation for both of us like this is good enough. I even forgot to ask is he going back to Hawaii and everything.. seriously can i not be so retard when I talk to him. BYE GEMINI.
Very last house-cooling party for this tiny crappy apartment that starts with sitting on the floor eating noodles till now still not enough chair for four people but finally a table to have nachos together. Life overall is treating me well isn’t it? I was talking to Lexi, she’s going through some tough time because some stupid guy is not treating her the way she’s supposed to be treated. I said it’s okay, you don’t plan life out, its always going the best direction it can, it just doesn’t seem clear to us at the moment. Now I’m graduating, I realize every hard class I took, every stranger I walked out on, every tantrum I threw, every group work I had, every late night spent at grad cafe, every friend I made, every mile I stepped on and even every foot i broke, it’s always for the best. ALWAYS. because now i’m looking back, I don’t have one regret. Maybe tiny bit for not studying abroad, but how can you ever get tired of new york right. Three years already the last time I had a picnic with Ebelle and Serena at central park. I haven’t done that in three years how can I leave new york? There are so many things on my checklist I haven’t done how can i regret spending more time in new york LOL.
1. “you never told me you need hugs, but I saw you and I would hug you. you need someone who would just hug you without you even asking.”
2. “What are you doing here” “I don’t know I just live here” “Duh”
3. How is twitter even alive- after I got stuck for doing relative pricing for twitter
4. I learned Angels on guitar! It makes me cry but playing that song makes me feel so close to happiness, like sustainable happiness
5. My cute teammates brought us chicken wings and we basically having a picnic and gossip chillout at EY lounge LMAO dude this is how u suppose to rock senior spring final week aight?
6. I wish no one ever would find out about these, I feel so uncomfortable for anyone to know me this personally, even not myself to be totally honest
In memory of my very last conversation with the favorite guy in 22 years, today’s my college report features Kygo- Stole the Show at Barclays Center. 1/21/2016
“We used to have it all, but now's our curtain call So hold for the applause, oh And wave out to the crowd, and take our final bow Oh, it's our time to go, but at least we stole the show”
