am I, as a resident evil gameverse fan, supposed to be preprogrammed into hating the w.s. anderson films? yeah, with all the discourse and (frankly excessive) trashing of the series this side of the fandom you’d think so.
does that stop me from enjoying them in a “guilty pleasure” sort of way? absolutely fucking not. have you seen the clairice aberfield ship?!?

There’s just so much gay longing in RE: Extinction, RE: Afterlife, and RE: The Final Chapter. I mean, they are literally the only movies in that franchise that I watch repeatedly the way I do. People will tell you Apocalypse is the best one but that’s just not true. It’s Extinction. It’s always going to be Extinction. That scene with the crows is just so fucking good, and the chemistry between Alice and Claire is flawless. When Claire screams in anguish and rage and Alice starts fighting the programming? Amazing! Quality! That timing and the choice to use Claire are purposeful, I am telling you.
The fact that when Alice wakes up at the end of The Final Chapter to see Claire’s face? When so often that role is played by the love interest? Let me tell you there is no way that they didn’t do that purposefully. It’s Alice and Claire at the end of the world, baby. If those three movies proved anything, it’s that they understand each other on a deep level.
I mean, Claire dropped Doc like a hot potato, no regrets, the minute Alice turned up again. There was no heartbreak there, you can see it in her face. There was anger and disgust, but she didn’t look like she was losing the love of her life. Not like how she looked when it seemed like Alice was going to have to sacrifice herself (again) to save the world. When Claire thought Alice was going to die, it looked like her heart was being ripped out of her chest. I don’t think she could kill Alice even if Alice betrayed her. (I mean, she probably could, but it would be a very different scene from the one with Doc.)
You cannot make this shit up, and if they made another movie, they’d have to pair Alice and Claire together canonically because I’m pretty sure that 75% of the active fan base is sapphic women who love watching beautiful women wield weapons (it’s certainly not the video game fans!), and we’d riot.

Claire x Alice!!! Anything you want!!!
Tumblr media
"I didn't want you to miss that." <3
Clairice, yay!!! Thank you.
*
The scent of the ocean is overwhelmingly salty. The first time Alice's been able to stop and smell it since waking up in the mansion, she has to pause and tip her head back, her slowly normalizing T-Virus-less senses taking over.
So...
This is the ocean.
Only turning as Claire approaches, Alice offers her a tired smile. "Everyone out now?"
Claire smiles back at her before momentarily looking towards the people milling around on deck. "Yes. Though, I've left Chris and K-Mart in charge for now."
Alice nods. Moves to press her head against Claire's, relaxing for a moment, "Nice."

There was a time, my children.
The Before Times.
Where there was a resident evil movieverse fandom and the lesbian ship was called Clairice Aberfield.
Lovingly crafted, janky gifsets. Playlists on 8tracks. Fanfiction.net. YouTube MVs.
Things grew. Lost Girl existed. Now there was actual lesbians lesbianing on a regular TV network (Syfy). And they were lesbianing hard.
We sailed the seas looking for the pirated Canadian versions of episodes because well, there was More to Watch™. I was but a young lass of 15.
It would seem the show was completely carried by lesbians. The showrunners had mercy on us.
Did the plot make any sense? No. No, but they ended up together and alive and in love in the end. What a revolution.
This show *ended* in 2015. Almost a decade ago, my children.
I was deeply involved in the Agent Carter fandom, of that ill fated ship, wrecked upon the rocks of Marvel's wretched, cursed shore- Cartinelli. What could have been, was not, because the people at Marvel are cowards. And so we placed gunpowder in the hold and destroyed the show. Our cargo long infected by the rot of media production and heteronormativity.
The show ended after season 2 because it did not have us to be a pillar. And we were its strongest pillar.
Of course, dear young ones, things are different now. I am almost 30 and an entirely different gender. Regina George is and her actress are gay as the hills are tall. They made a 2nd L Word for some reason.
But we remember. We always remember.

Alice/Claire and Chris/Leon could have been the most badass power couples but everyone in this fandom either only likes the movies or only likes the games/animations and like???? Offensive. Give the girls repeating rifles so they can protect their idiot boys when Chris and Leon finally confess their love in the middle of a battle. I just feel like that’s so on brand for them all.

Alice has two hands, which she can not only use to dual-wield multiple types of weaponry, but also to hold hands with both of her girlfriends at once
Stupid bonus:

Okay, so I've been rewatching the Resident Evil movies (Ohmygod Scottie, really? No way!) and please consider that besides Claire being, you know, injured to hell, maybe the other reason she didn't immediately go with Alice at the end of The Final Chapter is that part of her couldn't handle seeing Alice martyr herself (again)? And how much of that do you think warred with the part of her that was horrified at the prospect of Alice dying alone?
Like, what if Claire told Alice to go ahead and then realized what a horrible mistake she was making by letting Alice go up to die. So then she shoved all of her own pain aside to run up to the surface only to find Alice crumpled on the ground next to Isaacs and surrounded by fallen Infected. God, how she must have felt seeing Alice there, thinking that not only had Alice died, but that she had let Alice die alone.
And then imagine how Claire felt when she saw Alice open her eyes.

aberfield (TFC) prompt: when alice wakes up to claire shrouded in sunlight, being groggy, she blurts out a confession. ((honestly andrea, even if youre drunk, dont force yourself))
it's under the cut, yo ;)
"Thought I was goner," Alice admits. She blinks her eyes open again. Her pupils constrict, an onslaught of light and Claire's worried face simply too much for the conscious and subconscious workings of her mind to deal with all at once. Better to blink it into slow existence, one second, one sight at a time.
Claire leans down, laying a hand on the brunette's cheek. "I did, too," she confesses right back. She helps Alice into a sitting position, cradling the other woman to herself and holding her tight. "God," she rasps. "I was this close to telling you not to do it." Claire presses her lips to Alice's forehead, leaving them there, needing to feel Alice's skin as she breathes in the woman she met that terrifying day in the desert. Though Alice smells like coppery blood, and rot, and stale air from the underworld Umbrella built, memories are assaulting her senses, too. Claire remembers the scent of hot sand and sweat sweet collecting on Alice's collarbone. She remembers the Alaskan tundra, refreshing pine infiltrating her nostrils before Alice doused her with a bucket of water. This feels the same - a shocking jolt, a splash of something strong enough to cut through the pain and strife of the apocalypse.
"Is it... really over?" Alice croaks out. Her voice has always been a little on the hoarse side, but the way she's talking now, Claire can't help but hear the exhaustion in it.
Claire picks her head up, studying the world again. The infected around them, they're all dead - truly dead without a bullet or severed spinal column among them. "I think so. You did it." She suddenly laughs. "You fucking did it."
Claire grows somber as Alice reaches up and tucks a lock of red hair behind her ear. "Couldn't have done it without you."
"Sure you could've," Claire whispers.
Alice pushes herself up until she's not so much being held by Claire but sitting up beside her. There's a strange distance from the anguish that's marred her life, a warmth that chases away the cold existence she's known since that very first day out of her amniotic bubble in that cloning facility, and it's coming from Claire.
She's not really thinking, not feeling anything but hope as she pushes herself into Claire's space and kisses her. The tenacity of Claire's return surprises them both. Claire wraps her arms around Alice, pulling the brunette closer. The hurt of Alice's missing fingers, the blows landed by Isaac, stop registering. Claire is rewriting those pain pathways, making them spark with want and desire with every brushing touch of her lips.
Come tomorrow, they might chalk this passion up to the moment. What's more romantic than stopping the end of the world? Probably not much.
Come tomorrow, they might both deny these feelings that have been growing in them since they met. They might try to forget how they fit together, how Claire moans and Alice loves the sound of it, how Alice whimpers when Claire slides her hand to Alice's jaw to keep kissing her.
But come tomorrow, whatever waits them, they'll it face together.
