Found on a suitcase in my storage locker this morning. Like me, I guess he’s got an urge to travel.
Clark’s spiny lizard (Sceloporus clarkii) in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Once the weather warms up he’ll relocate to the trees, and start showing some turquoise and sapphire colors for mating season. You can see examples of their colorful scales here.

Clark’s spiny lizard (Sceloporus clarkii) at Ash Canyon. These are arboreal lizards, and excellent climbers. Visitors to the bird sanctuary are sometimes startled to find such large, stout lizards clinging to branches or walls overhead.
Incidentally, today marks the anniversary of this Tumblr. My first post was on this date in 2008, so today is the start of Fatchance’s fifteenth year. Aside from parenthood and my career it is possibly my longest-enduring project. I would never have guessed it. I hope it brings some pleasure to those who follow or stop by.

Rock art lizard.
I spotted this Clark’s spiny lizard (Sceloporus clarkii) climbing on a petroglyph panel at Picture Rocks. The dark crossbars on its forelimbs are diagnostic. I have read a description that calls the bands “bracelet-like,” but to me they look like the sleeves of a very itchy, very scaly sweater.
