I think the funniest possible interpretation of the ending of The Collection is that after Arkin uses his own methods against him (tracking him down, invading the house, leaving a trap in the form of the trunk, and kidnapping [the one he wants]), The Collector is hanging out in that trunk thinking, 'this is reciprocation'. Once that box opens up he is going to be so weird about it (good for him).
Arkin and the Collector are like some primitive, bare-bones Will and Hannibal. Kind of a similar vibe, but instead of a twisted relationship based on philosophical, innuendo-laden repartee and elaborate psychological manipulation, they just maim each other.
What if i am evil and might even make instead a shaker keychain of asa holding the red box and it has a clear bit around it to look like arkin and some bones shake around in it omg im going to try draw that to get it made or I’ve already heard of that and seen it so it might already be a keychain but i forgot where from💔
This is what im thinking and just arkin and bones in the box or arkin and the foot chains or even asas knife or double even a beartrap i have so many ideas its crazy
I get that the filmmakers likely did not intend for audiences to interpret the Collector and Arkin as a gay, like maybe the whole thing about two men tirelessly hunting each other down, one man penetrating the abdomen of the other and filling the hole with small squirming creatures, Arkin ultimately being selected to be kept as a favorite, and the only word that has any effect on the Collector being “faggot,” a word that was also seemingly in the front of Arkin’s mind as if there is some gnawing feeling of suppressed shame that both men subconsciously understand that they share, like yeah sure maybe all of that was an accident, however the selection of ‘I Feel You - Throb Mix’ by Depeche Mode for the scene that establishes that Arkin is about to enter the Collector’s world, with emphasis on the lyrics “This is the morning of our love”… like it doesn’t entirely lend itself to a heterosexual reading of the text now does it babez?
