Check out this luscious, gorgeous bedroom and dark folk song by the extremely talented Elizabeth Ann aka Elizabeth Owens off of Friends For Equality volume 2. It is a song about friendship and childhood best friends. They may travel or move far away, but we'll always be a rock or light for them when times are dark. This Richmond based musician is currently working on a new album, and I highly recommend checking out their Altruism EP from last year. https://elizabethowens.bandcamp.com/ Elizabeth has also been a huge help to us with organizing and planning our upcoming benefit show for Nationz Foundation on August 5th. Their organizing, networking and artistic skills are on par with their musical talent.

"Winter Meditation" is a beautifully haunting, quiet, and spacious improvisational piece by Gutter Collective. I have been so blessed in the past year to have met many musicians in Richmond's growing experimental, improv and avant garde community and was so excited when Gutter Collective submitted this song to volume 2. All of them are super talented and I am proud to have met Nathaniel Roseberry and honored to know and play with Zoda Olivia Kinney in LUNAR, another improv group. I am in love with her cello playing. This song is another favorite of mine on Volume 2. Ceremonial Scissors is the project of Zoe Brzezinski and friends in Richmond. They recently just put out a 4 song EP called DEMOS which is outstanding. I love their wonderfully weird and experimental acoustic noise music and their lyrics manage to be strange, poetic, and hilarious at the same time. So Nice Yesterday is a hip-hop funk & soul/producer duo from Baltimore who reached out to me for vol 2 and I am so glad they did! Tiaira Harris aka Berko Lover (who has another track on the comp) is half of So Nice Yesterday. I love her voice and their track Rose Gold makes me want to sing along and hit the dance floor. It starts out with Cazre Thomas hitting the mic and then Tiaira takes over on vocals for the rest of the track. It starts out as a funky soulful hip-hop track and then turns into a deep house groove. It is one of my favorites on vol 2 so check it out!

I discovered Way Yes around 2009/2010. I have been a huge fan of their frontman, Glenn Davis since then and he now also puts out beautiful solo music. I reached out to him for volume 1 but he got the message way too late and was gracious and said to contact him for volume 2. He contributed this track and I absolutely love it like all of his stuff. Do yourself a favor and check him out. This track is relatable to anyone who is still friends with at least one childhood friend who went through some heavy shit...or maybe you were the one who went through that craziness and your friend didn't know how to help you at the time but the two of you still somehow managed to stay friends or found your way back to one another. I love all the songs on volume 2 but this one is one of my favorites.
