As He Exits Congress, Blumenauer Wants His Party to Embrace Pot Legalization
The long-serving congressman from Portland, who has become the top marijuana advocate on Capitol Hill, believes the issue could boost President Biden’s support with young voters. As a 23-year-old serving his first term in the Oregon state legislature, Representative Earl Blumenauer cosponsored the first bill in the country to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana. More than 50 years later, the…

god but watching all the ascension stuff w/ramza last night has me so insane about xarrastarion. because like the thing is he never really Stops wanting to manipulate them up until the ritual happens (there is some nuance to what’s happening After that if i get into now i’ll get nothing done at work today at all lol) but just instead of “how can i keep myself safe” it’s “how can i keep them mine” and it’s not about possessiveness (deeply not a thing for the two of them) it’s about well. that one fucking line after you ascend him. “he will always see you as degrading yourself if you continue to be with him.” and it’s not about being insecure or whatever like idk it would be very easy to woobify him here and to be like “poor baby is insecure and sad etc etc etc” and yeah there’s an element here of like. feeling unworthy or whatever. but he’s not really wallowing in that? it’s not the tear filled “why would you ever love someone like me :((((((“ conversations i think people want to see with characters like this it’s very much like. i’m going to do everything i can to Make you love me. i know you said you care for me but the clock is ticking and eventually my burdens will be too much to bear and i have to make the value proposition of my being in your life sound appealing despite all that. he feels that way regardless, but once you get to the ritual the difference between ascended and spawn endings is that for ascended it’s “maybe you like degrading yourself” and spawn recognizes that they don’t see it as degrading at all.
and i think with xarrai specifically like. he believes they care for him. he believes they intend to help him kill cazador come hell or high water. but he also believes them to be someone who is calculating and always aware of the cost and benefit of keeping people around (whether he’s 100% right about that is a different story tho) and so he feels like. idk. the stakes feel high no matter how honestly they try to show him they care for him and need and want nothing else from him. i feel like that line after the spawn ambush that’s like “i’m doing this for you too, you know. to make sure we’re both safe.” is exactly the heart of it - it’s a very valid interpretation to say that’s more manipulation and is entirely a lie but i think there’s something compelling in seeing it as true. manipulative to an extent, but true. xarrai could tell him honestly and plainly that they absolutely want nothing more than his companionship and he would Still be trying to find a way to keep them his because i think the idea of losing what they have, of losing whatever “something real” means is like. unthinkable. and drives him to consider ascension the only option because it would allow him to keep hold of the things he wants and loves; power, sunlight, and them.

#Repost @marijuanadistribution ・・・ A Mexican senator announced on Wednesday that she will be introducing a bill to legalize and regulate psychedelics nationwide to give people an alternative treatment option for serious mental health conditions. At an Intercultural Forum on Entheogenic Medicine that took place in the Senate, Sen. Alejandra Lagunes of the Ecologist Green Party said that substances like psilocybin and ayahuasca have “high therapeutic potential, low toxicity and don’t create physical dependence or abuse.” U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) also made remarks in a video recording that was played at the forum, applauding lawmakers in the neighboring country for taking initial steps to further dismantle prohibition and unlock the potential of psychedelics. The congressman, who has promoted psychedelics reform domestically while continuing to champion marijuana legalization, said that Mexico is moving in the “right direction,” and he looks “forward to being your American partner” in the push for reform. Today's Walking Photo: The sign’s been there for months, easily, and I’ve passed it many times without quite being moved to take its picture. Not that the message isn’t accurate and worthwhile, just…somehow it didn’t seem to rise to the level of photo-worthy. But hey, slap a bird skeleton up there and suddenly I’m on board. With its beak wide open like that, in my head I’m hearing it reel off the words of the sign in that classic scolding, singsongy parrot voice.
SQUAAAAAWK! OUTRAGE ISN’T ENOUGH! OUTRAGE ISN’T ENOUGH! SQUAAAAAAAAAWK!!!
Can you hear it too? (Sorry, Earl Blumenauer. You’re one of the good ones for sure.)

House Democrats increase pressure on Brazilian agricultural exports over deforestation
Tumblr media
[Image description: USAmerican congressman Tom Suozzy.]
In opposition to the enforcement of the Brazil-U.S. Trade Protocol on Wednesday, Democratic lawmakers Tom Suozzy and Chellie Pingree decided to co-sponsor Congressman Earl Blumenauer’s Forestal Act of 2021.
Under discussion in five House committees, the bill aims to “combat illegal deforestation by prohibiting the importation of products made wholly or in part of certain commodities produced on land undergoing illegal deforestation, and for other purposes.”
The draft follows in the footsteps of similar initiatives already presented in the European Union and the United Kingdom. If signed into law, the resolution would severely impact agricultural exports from Brazil.

CONGRESSMAN PANETTA INTRODUCES E-BIKE ACT TO ENCOURAGE USE OF ELECTRIC BICYCLES AND REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS
CONGRESSMAN PANETTA INTRODUCES E-BIKE ACT TO ENCOURAGE USE OF ELECTRIC BICYCLES AND REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS
February 9, 2021 Press Release Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and Congressional Bike Caucus Chairman Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) introduced the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act to encourage the use of electric bicycles, or e-bikes, through a consumer tax credit.  Due to the distance, speed, and ease by which they can travel, e-bikes will help…

The bill amends current law to prohibit the Attorney General from designating Drug Enforcement Administration officers to enforce non-drug related laws. It also restricts the ability of the U.S. Marshals Service to deputize other law enforcement officers and prohibits the Secretary of Homeland Security from designating non-Federal Protective Services officials to protect federal buildings, unless requested by the highest executive of the state, territory, D.C. or Indian tribe where the protest activity is to occur.
“The excessive use of force against peaceful protesters in Washington, D.C. and Portland was disturbing and un-American.” Rep. Lieu said. “I’m pleased to introduce this legislation, which would restrict the ability of this Administration or any future one from abusing its power by unnecessarily deploying federal agents to peaceful protests. We must ensure all Americans can safely exercise their right to protest without being fearful of those who are meant to protect them.”

Three women independently accuse Gordon Sondland of repeated acts of highly similar sexual misconduct
Tumblr media
Three separate, named women have independently accused Trump's EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland of repeated acts of sexual misconduct while he was in a position of physical, financial and professional power over them. Sondland denies the accusations.
The three women's stories were jointly reported by Propublica and Portland Monthly, and one of the accusers is Portland Monthly cofounder Nicole Vogel (her story was reported by Propublica). Third parties confirmed that all three women told them about Sondland's attacks on them at the time.
The women feared speaking publicly about Sondland's attacks because, they say, he wields enormous political and commercial influence over Portland, Oregon, where the women reside and where Sondland built his hotel empire, whose profits allowed him to donate $1,000,000 to the Trump inauguration.
The stories the women tell share common elements. Sondland's lawyers accused Propublica of "witness tampering" in the Trump impeachment inquiry, and implied that the women had fabricated accounts of Sondland's sexual attacks -- groping, exposing himself, attempting to kiss them -- because he had turned down their bids to have him support them financially.
According to Vogel, Sondland had presented himself as a potential investor in her magazine, but after she repeatedly rebuffed his sexual advances, he effectively pulled out of the deal. Sondland's lawyers accused Vogel of being an associate of Democratic Congressman Earl Blumenauer and implied that her accusation had been motivated as part of a supposed vendetta by Blumenauer against Sondland. Vogel denies any connection to Blumenauer.
Jana Solis was a safety engineer who was pitching Sondland's hotel chain on behalf of her firm. According to her, when he agreed to give her firm his business, he groped her ass and told her she was his "hotel chick." Solis says that Sondland later exposed himself to her and tried to kiss her, and when she refused his advances, he bullied her.
Natalie Sept was a young woman who worked on the campaign for a city councillor whom Sondland had donated money to. She says he offered to mentor her and help her find her next career, but after he insisted on following her to a restaurant parking lot and then tried to kiss her and she rebuffed him, she says he dropped his plans to help her find work with the state film commission, which he chaired for more than a decade.
Sondland denies all claims. His lawyers made this statement available.

Excerpt from this EcoWatch story:
A cohort of progressive Democrats plan to introduce a resolution declaring a climate emergency Tuesday in Congress, a move that could open the door to decisive action on the crisis.
The Guardian's Emily Holden reported Monday afternoon that Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) are expected to introduce a resolution calling for naming the climate crisis an "emergency" on Tuesday. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, also plans to introduce the resolution in the upper chamber, according to the reporting.
In comment to The Guardian, Blumenauer's office said that the congressman "decided to draft the resolution after Donald Trump declared an emergency at the U.S. border with Mexico so he could pursue building a wall between the two countries."
In her reporting, Holden urged caution.
"Even if the resolution passed and was signed by the president, it would not force any action on climate change," wrote Holden. "But advocates say similar efforts in Canada and the United Kingdom have served as a leverage point, highlighting the hypocrisy between the government position that the situation is an emergency and individual decisions that would exacerbate the problem."
A spokesperson for Sanders said the senator was moving forward on the resolution because President Donald Trump's policies are making things worse.
