Strong Winds Dropping Off
Strong Winds Dropping Off
Strong Winds Dropping Off Strong Winds Dropping Off
Strong winds from earlier which gusted to as high as 72 mph in White Plains and elsewhere reached 50 to 60 mph are dropping off very rapidly across the entire area. Most of the wind gusts as of 8pm are under 30 mph which puts them in the reasonable range. Skies are clearing out as evidenced on the satellite loop below. The huge storm in the…

Do you know about any true crimes in CT? I'm from there and just wondering if there's anything I may have missed. Thanks in advance!!
Hi! Well I don’t know which ones you haven’t missed, so I apologize if you know about all these, but here’s a small list of somewhat famous crimes from Connectictut, aside from the Sandy Hook School Shooting which I’m sure you definitely are aware of.
The only crime I could find in my archive that happened in Connecticut is the murder of Helle Crafts. She was killed by her husband Richard in 1986, and he disposed of her body using a woodchipper. Aside from the tragedy of the murder itself, this case is interesting from a forensic point of view, since this was the first murder in the state of CT that managed a conviction with no body. @forgotten-or-unknown-truestories has several posts about this case, and it was also the first covered in the TV show Forensic Files (you can watch that episode here).
Tumblr media
The Petit Family murders, which I recently discussed with an Anon here (you’ll find links to a longer post and a documentary there). In short, two men entered in the home of a family from Cheshire and ended up killing the mother and the two daughters, and also raped the mother and the younger daughter. The latter happened while the police was outside the house, setting a perimeter because they were under the impression it was some sort of hostage situation.
Tumblr media
The Sick Ripper, aka William Devin Howell. Dubbed by some media as the most infamous serial killer in the state, he murdered seven women in 2003 and hid the bodies behind a shopping plaza, where they were found 4 years later. By that time, Howell was already in custody, charged with manslaughter for the death of one of his victims. He killed 7 women in just one year, imagine what would have happened if this guy had remained at large for longer.
Tumblr media
The Bra Murders. Between 1967 and 1971, five black female sex workers were murdered, four of them strangled with their own bra. Police arrested a white schizophrenic postal worker called Benjamin Miller. There’s a lot of controversy about whether he actually committed the murders or not (there’s another strong suspect called Robert Lupinacci), but he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and released in 1989 from a mental institution. You can read more about his case here.
Tumblr media
The murder of Martha Moxley. She was found beaten and stabbed with a golf club in 1975, when she was only 15 years old. This is another mess of a case in terms of judicial proceedings. It was technically unsolved for many years, until 2000, when police arrested Michael Skakel, who lived in the same neighborhood as Martha and was 15 at the time of the murder. His brother Thomas was one of the people who’d last seen her alive, and even kissed her on that night. The Skakels also happen to be related to the Kennedy family. Michael was convicted in 2002, then was granted a new trial in 2013, then had his conviction reinstated in 2016, then had that conviction vacated and he was granted a new trial earlier this year.
Tumblr media
The murder of Annie Le. Annie was a doctoral student at Yale who disappeared on 2009. Her body was found five days later inside a basement laboratory of the university. That day was also meant to be her wedding date. For her murder, a laboratory techinician called Raymond Clarke pled guilty, although he didn’t offered a motive (prosecution believe it was an attempted sexual assault).
You can check out more CT cases here.

Independence Day Mostly Dry Warm

Independence Day Mostly Dry Warm
Independence Day Mostly Dry Warm
We are here at the 4th of July Independence Day and there is a bit of a small issue this morning. Dry air is pushing southward on north winds while several very small upper air disturbances are moving across Pennsylvania. There are one or two isolated downpours on the radar this morning but that really is all there is. Once they…
