i know this could be a bad question but whee did you learn to draw human bodys/anatomy??? Art school? Just practise or a book or smt bc its so good i wanna eat it and vomit it on paper so i can also have it - im saying its hella good 😊

i improved my anatomy the most by alot alot of figure drawing. like i have whole sketchbooks of just giving myself like 5 min to draw a stock pose over and over and over with different poses.

live figure drawing with a model helped me alot too but i realise its not super accesible unless u have a friend thats willing to pose nude or in minimal clothing lmao so i just recommand quickposes.com (i think its called that) its a hugeee data base of stock poses to draw and u can set a timelimit for each pose.

also learning like "medical" anatomy really helps for details. like knowing where muscles go, how much limbs can bend naturally, how fat is distributed.

that helps with drawing different body types mostly.

idk learn abt the contrapost and the line of action for adding some dynamic to a pose

yeah but mostly just observing and really analyzing stock photos and models !!

So... i felt so stuck between contrapostal, stilllife and accurate anatomy, that i didn’t feel like drawing anymore. But i also had the idea of meaningless objects that don’t belong together in one drawing.

So Contraposting has died down again recently but I had a thought, or well realized a thought elsewhere but this blog is the bin I store my thoughts in, all jumbled up, so it gets to go here too.

I don’t think I really need to reiterate the fact that, even outside of intellectual issues, I genuinely found The Aesthetic to be hurtful and that has colored my reaction to Contra’s work, but I was honestly willing to let it be a one-off. In fact, the only other video I’ve watched of Natalie’s has been the “tr*ps” video, which in and of itself was... in retrospect not that good tbh but at least not like, actually hurtful to watch (which should never be the best thing someone can say about your work, for the record: “Oh, it was mediocre, shock-baiting dreck, but y’know, it didn’t leave me feeling insulted and invalidated!”).

But after watching that video, and specifically remembering how after a certain point Natalie said she’d stop using the titular slur because it was kind of irredeemable and also harmful? I thought back to when she showed up on Hbomb’s stream and, in front of an audience of nearly 10k people she couldn’t have FAILED to know were largely trans, she threw that word about incredibly cavalierly. Like, a word she had herself said she wasn’t going to reclaim, right in front of an audience which disproportionately stood to be victimized by that word.

That was the point where I went from personally vindictive but overall semi-ambivalent about Natalie Wynn to completely opposed to her whole schtick. There’s been more stuff since then that’s even more solid (hell, the Aesthetic on its own IS a more solid reason to dislike her), but that particular contradiction I feel is hugely telling about how responsibly she intends to use her platform and her voice.
