Day Eighty-Eight
Rather than going to PLC this morning, all department heads had to join The Principal, the Deans, and our district's newly-hired Director of Curriculum for a Zoom meeting about NWEA testing and how to use the test data productively. There were, of course, a few technical difficulties, but I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting and helpful it ended up being. I'm not a data wonk like some of my colleagues, but even I appreciated what we're able to learn about our students from some of the test data we have (yes, I know it's not a whole picture, etc, etc... but it was still cool) and how it might inform our instructional practices.
I only had about twenty minutes after the meeting to prep for class, so I did that in a hurry. Luckily, I managed, and my Global Studies students were able to learn about colonialism and its consequences in a lesson that ended up being almost perfectly timed. They read about colonialism on their own and answered some questions, we discussed their answers, and then I did a Slides lecture on the long-term impacts of the colonial era. All this is starting to show them how historical events connect to the current ones they're learning about in the world's most fragile countries. I was quite happy with how it went!
In APGOV, my students took the MCQ section of their last test- before the exam, that is- and most of them really crushed it. The FRQs are tomorrow.
Hard to believe this class is almost over!
