Lets start simple. Inventory. What other assets do you have to kill a super-wizard with?

Kaila was yelling at Luka, which he was used to. She always complained when there was work. He tuned her out to focus on the mission. Kaila, always smug about her own magical talents, tended to over-state the dangers of wizards, but this was still going to be far more challenging than any hit they’d ever done.

It would help if they had better gear and equipment. He only really had one gun, a Whitefeather 53 rifle that was good for sniping but only shot bullets. Kaila’s magic, like Kaila herself, was flashy and confusing and usually useless. She could dazzle, and force people out of cover sometimes, but nothing she could do magically was worth mentioning against a full-bore wizard. Her Cyberkatana didn’t do it’s previous owner any good, and neither of them really knew how to use it anyway. Luka had tried cutting watermelons with it and all it did was set him up with a trial account on Date/Stay Night, and neither the app nor the blade had gotten him any melons. Really his rifle was the only thing he could count on.

Well, that and time. The advance was enough to live off for the mission and have a little left over for new equipment. Luka tried to figure out what equipment would be useful against a wizard. Bombs, maybe? Kill the wizard in one attack before he could fireball or teleport or some other bullshit.

“He’s going to turn our souls inside-out”, said Kaila. Luka didn’t even know what that meant, so he ignored it. They could also hire some help. A professional would want a full share of the bounty, but they could maybe find a moron. Most people underrated morons, but they could be a powerful weapon used properly, and they usually got themselves killed before payroll. Maybe you could strap a bomb to a moron? Hm. That’d be a difficult sell, and a little ethically dubious. Maybe they could strap a bomb to a dog?

“You’re not even listening to me, are you?” said Kaila. It was a fair accusation. Luka turned to her and smiled his most assuring smile. “Have a little faith. Unus gradus, deinde ad astra”

Jesus Christ he was doing Latin. This was worse than she thought. Kaila buried her face in her hands, but her argument was cut off by the arrival of the Silver Line SuperTransit Hovertrolley, more colloquially known as the bus. When the big transit upgrade happened, all the budget was spent up in Watertown, and all that was left for Branson was the new signs. The busses down here didn't even hover, and were notorious for randomly catching fire, which to be fair was as much the mages' fault as it was the city's.

Kaila grabbed one of the few empty seats, put her backpack on the seat next to her, and her feet up on the seat in front of her. She knew Luka was going to stand either way, but was important to demonstrate petty rebellion here.

"Skcsshzshhxokcshhsh", said the bus intercom. Several passengers groaned at the news. An ad came on the screens above the seats, but immediately crashed before anyone could even tell what it was an ad for. Wasted money for the corporation. Kaila was a little jealous she wasn’t as punk anti-capitalist as underfunded mass transit adware, and distracted herself from her thoughts by casting little lightning bolts back and forth between her hands. Magic was illegal on public transit, but cops were too rich to ride a bus, so they were the safest place to practice. She tried to get the little bolt to go around her finger, but she just zapped the tip. Ow. Again. Ow. Again. Focus.

Kaila wasn’t really a mage, she couldn’t pass the exams, but her magic was still the only tool they had. Luka’s rifle, like Luka himself, was reliable but one-dimensional. He couldn’t shoot someone hiding behind cover. It was usually up to Kaila to smoke them out. Simple grade-school hexes like bugs and spiders worked surprisingly well at scaring dumb adrenaline-pumped gangsters into walking in front of Luka’s gun, but a real wizard wasn’t going to fall for cheap mind tricks like that. She had a few months to study on spells, find the right trick to let her get within cyberkatana distance. Easier said than done.

Some LEGO weapons! At least, my depiction of ‘em, as well as some originals I had taking dust in my folder.

First off, for higher resolution, go over ‘ere! Now, for a bit of lore and the likes for each of them, keep reading this. In order we have, from left to right:

The Sword of the Necromancer, wielded by the Lord of the Monster Realm. Powered by blood and death, as well as the darkest energies of the universe. A primeval shadow only known by the gods of yore. The Black Broadsword, crafted especifically for Lord Vladek Emelesk of the Drokanian community that fled to the north after their defeat by Eric Burghia. The Royal Broadsword, used by high ranking knights of Eastburgh. This one belonged to Sir Santis of Morcia. The Sword of Burghia, wielded by the king of the same name. One of the first lords and ruler of the easthern country who fought against the Drokanian knights. The Ronin Blade, wielded by the army of ronin who fought for the Sacred Tree at the Grey Valley during the war against the Four Riders and their cavalry. The Sacred Ronin Blackblade, a katana to be taken only by one of the Guardians of the Imagination Nexus, however, it lost its path long ago. It is now wielded by Grim Daisho, the Undead Swordman; one of the Undying Nine. The Rastad Shotel, wielded by the soldiers under the rule of Amset Ra, Pharaoh of Rastad. The Emlyaskiyn Mace, wielded by some men of the northern realm, under the rule of Lord Vladek. The Verterran Sickle, wielded by assassins of Verterre, who strike from the shadows of the forest. The Vermillion Battle Axe, wielded by the hideous creatures known as the Vermillion. The Golden Staff, belonging to Amset Ra. The staff itself is a Primaléic artifact, crafted by the gods, and the crystal on its top is known as the Soul Diamond. Together, along with the other Golden Treasures, are able to open gates beyond human comprehension. The Lord Vampyre deeply coveted these at some point. However, someone else managed to retrieve them before. The Staff of AntiMatter, wielded by the ubervillain of the same name. This staff was found years ago by the military forces after it landed on Astor. They were ready to send the artifact to Bradford Rant's Institute of Cosmic Kinesis for them to study, but to everyone's surprise, the staff disappeared... The Staff of Mallock, one of the four staves belonging to the Mythran of Ashlar. Mallock's staff had the power of lightning, but after he was consumed by the darkness, the staff was forever lost. The Royal Wolf Greatsword, wielded by Sir Danju of Morcia. High ranking knights of Eastburgh had similar greatswords, but only Danju wielded the one shaped after a wolf. The CyberKatana wielded by the Samurai X. Powered by Technium, similar in construct to some artifacts designed by the Nexus Force of Gallant V. The Rapier of Richard Rathbone, now belonging to his son, Rodney. A fancy weapon, and powerful at the same time. Richard crafted this rapier long ago, preparing himself to enter the Monster Realm. But this took too long, and his age would not allow it anymore. The Sword of Sanctuary, an ancient katana forged by the Mythran of the Cloud Kingdom who watch over the world. Similarly, this artifact can foresee the actions of their enemy, but even the future is uncertain and can be changed at any time. The Scorpion Greatsword, wielded by Lord Vladek Emelesk. The scorpion was the emblem of Emlyaskiy; A symbol of death and disease, yet still, the favorite animal of the Lord. The Barbed Blacksword, said to be wielded by the Knight Slayer that once worked under the command of Vladek at one point. A fierce warrior who took no master, or so they say. The Sabertooth Greatsword, wielded by Sir Fangar of the Outlands. A huge curved sword far too heavy for a regular human to wield. Said to possess the power of ice on its core. The Verterran Twin Daggers, wielded by warriors of Verterre. This land favored speed over power, and these pair of daggers were suited only for the most graceful assassins of this land. Dancing on a flurry of blades as their enemy bled to death. The Assassin Twin Scythes, wielded by warriors of the land of Daegr. The bandits of this land valued victory at all cost, and their weaponry only included the deadliest of the blades. The Daegr Axe, wielded by Lord Cedric Daegr. Cedric the Bull was born on Astor, but eventually fled after his defeat at the hands of King Leo I. It was then when he founded the land of Daegr. The Rose Dagger, wielded by many sailors of Moane. King Samukai once wielded four of these, but it is unknown how he could acquire such weapons. The Royal Rapier, wielded by high ranking knights of Eastburgh. This one belonged to Sir Rascus of Morcia. The Toxic Pistol, an special weapon modified by Dr. Kita Ward before her attack to the laboratories of Pointer Island. The Moane Flintlock, wielded by many sailors of Moane. This pistol required a high amount of skill from its wielder. It is no surprise that Captain Flintlocke quickly arose amongst the best for his maneuvering of two guns. The Astor Pistol, a very common weapon in Astor. The Toxic SC Gauntlet, wielded by the assassin Spyclops. The "Spyclops Project" was an initiative designed by Dr. Inferno to create the perfect spy. Spencer Klouse ended to be the subject of this, but against his own will. Inferno would never know that "Spyclops" would eventually return to take the Doctor's life as revenge, as well as that of those who failed to protect him. The SHAR Energy Harpoon, created by scientists of SHAR. These researchers experimented on the life of the seas in Astor, and even beyond that. Their goal was to create a perfect combination between a man and a sea creature, and should this backfire, they would be prepared. The Technium Gauntlet, made and wielded by the hacker known as Terabyte. Shane Taylor dedicated his life to computer studies, but would suddenly find himself at the command of the city's gratest criminal. One would wonder, was he doing the right thing? The Rowstan Hunt Rifle, wielded by hunters worldwide. There's nothing too special about this weapon, but it was the favorite of the Major Quinton Steele. A Worker's Hammer, used in many different chores. This thing is definitely not a weapon, but what else would you use should you find yourself in dire need? The Silver Bow, wielded by Margaret Lee, the first Monster Fighter. Monsters always kept coming from the woods of Verterre, and Margaret fought whatever was threatening her life or that of her daughter Annabelle. At one point however, she was finally dragged into a monstrous place. May Aurumin spare her soul... And The Burghian Longbow, wielded by archers under the command of Eric Burghia. The first Master of Ice, Edwin Berrich, was once under Burghia's command, but he eventually left after discovering his powers. At one point however, Edwin disappeared, leaving no trace.
