When you finish dbdc will you talk about sollux’s rarepair blackrom

lmfao yeah if i ever finish i'll do a whole retrospecive on sollux/vriska

i will say like. i don't dislike how its written but every time sollux is like "my kismesis: vriska" i have to meditate for like. 30 seconds to keep it together. like its an au so its fine but.

i think vriska is in general an appealing character to do this kind of plotline w because she is SO prickly but she does have these moments of like awkward attempts at kindness that reveal a softer side of her. so its fun and interesting to watch her try at genuine affection. i think its a dynamic that lends itself well to fic. its like watching somebody successfully adopt a stray cat or something.

i really liked the part when they had to go rescue everybody and sollux was clearly like. dissociating to avoid having a breakdown and vriska was like trying to get him to let her be in charge but kept asking if he understood that she wasn’t just using him. felt very true to her character to have her be really trying to do the right thing and also so worried that her actions are going to be misconstrued later. plus i liked that like she did pressure him into getting the new ports installed but also she was there with him. i liked that they didn’t pull the punch on how intense the moment was.

all that being said i know that sexuality doesnt exist on alternia or whatever but. to me. vriska is a dyke. i guess in certain circumstances sollux could also be a dyke but he is not in this au. so the vibes r still not all there for me personallyyyyyy

davesolkat (what quadrant?) or davekat (what quadrant?)

davesolkat in every quadrant. I think their dynamic in DBDC with their whole "awwspistice"-vibe was excellent, but I'm also a big fan of their dynamic in YWDMP.

I almost always prefer pitch relationships to flush/pale ones, so for davekat, davesol, and solkat individually I think putting them all in sets of spades is my favorite stuff.

But I also like it when they quadrant smear the shit out of everything sooooo!

I think it was unda who turned me into a davesolkat fan in the first place. Now every time there's a fic with two of them together, the third feels missing to me. They ruined my Brain and my brain was already bad lmao. Anyway in conclusion mess of quadrants davesolkat is beautiful and dayhve's broken diamond club is my hc for how those three work

the thing is that some of my favorite lyrical moments are precisely that—that is, they’re lyrics, and half the poetry is in the music, without which the words go flat and banal:

like, when i die, weighed to my account against the feather of ma’at will be my inexcusable lingering fondness for the song ‘and this is my beloved’ from the musical kismet, which i’m pretty sure is just as orientalizing as it sounds (the aforementioned song has a line about ‘strange spice from the south,’ so, you know. not great!), but there’s a bit in the song describing the beloved as ‘all that can stir — all that can stun — all that’s for the heart’s lifting,’ and like. i like the way that -ifting rhyme is woven through the song, it’s the B of an ABAC DBDC ExEx FBFCC and it’s just unusual enough to be a noticeable throughline, a slow trickle like sand in an hourglass; and then too i do just like the language of that, because i’m a sentimental romantic deep down things, still, despite all my bruised disappointments and all the sweetness of me mostly turned to vinegar, and truly what more can you want from a beloved than to be stirred and stunned and uplifted, rapture and consolation both; but also not least of what gets me is the float upwards on ‘heart,’ the held lovely moment in the music that i guess is word painting in a minor way, although then the melody drifts down again even as you sing ‘lifting,’ so i don’t want to overstate it—

anyway i have a tiny treasure-box in my mind of very particular little moments in music like that—there’s at least one vaughan williams piece i think i’ve mentioned on here before—and it’s just, i don’t know. i don’t really know how to talk about art that isn’t made up of words, not properly, but sometimes visual art and music are a kind of poetry, or do a sort of tonal thing that poetry also does, and—i don’t know, i love it with all my hot incoherent little heart, thanks for listening. i love you with all my hot incoherent little heart too.

i get this type of ask once every couple weeks and it delights me every time, im so glad people are diving into unda's works.

that being said PERSONALLY i recommend alternate universe next as it's what's been on my mind a lot recently and also is the second unda fic i also read after mc escher!
