This photo was posted with the good intention of showing how people helped Hilary after she stumbled on a step, however reporters saw this and used is a proof to say that Hilary has failing health. In the frame, it appears that people are helping he up the stairs, however, the reporters and viewers outsider the frame know the truth behind the photo.
The fabricated story about this image was meant to deceive the viewers into thinking Hilary has poor health and is weak and was a ploy to undermine her.

Herbert Hoover, the Republican presidential candidate in the 1928 election, is seen with Charles Curtis, his running mate. This meant they had to maintain an image of friendship because of the campaign. In reality, the two men were at such odds that they refused to pose together for a photograph. They hated each other so much they didn’t want to pose with each other so the cropped 2 photos together to make this one. The categories these pictures fall into Creative and it’s because when I first looked at it I didn’t really think much of it but when I looked at his hand that’s when I noticed.

This is a picture of a crowded Bloor-Younge subway station taken in early January this year. One of my friends posted this picture on their instagram spams saying this was taken just two days ago, and that all these people were disobeying social distancing rules regarding Covid-19. This person was most definitely trying to deceive their followers, as they wanted them to believe that people were not following the rules for this quarantine. This deception was not meant to be noticed by their followers, clearly as someone even commented thinking this was happening currently. however, I am familiar with this picture and when it was taken so I instantly knew it was not taken in april. The person who posted this did not want their viewers to know this was taken in january, rather than now in april.

Hot dog or dachshund? Randy Lewis, 2016
Randy Lewis has a This or That Series where he blends together different objects, usually to make puns, using photo manipulation. This image is a photo of a hot dog sausage on a fork spliced together with a photo of a dachshund, also known as the wiener dog or sausage dog.
This is a creative photo manipulation that is meant to be noticed. The photo is making a pun on the word hotdog, comparing a hotdog sausage to a sausage dog, and is not meant to trick people into thinking that what is pictured is reality.

Hillary Clinton stumbled as she climbed the steps of an antebellum mansion in Charleston. Aides helped her regain her balance in a vulnerable but nondescript moment captured by Getty photographer Mark Makela When the alt-right news site Breitbart touted it as evidence of Clinton's failing health. This photo affects Mrs. Clinton's presidential election with Mr. Trump and the concern of the voter for Mrs. Clinton. The photo is deceptive and gives strong attention to the others. The main purpose of the photo is to make viewers think wrong in the other direction

The photo has been edited after it was taken.
I found this picture @ http://www.alteredimagesbdc.org/oj-simpson/
In June of 1994, during OJ Simpson’s murder trial, both TIME magazine and Newsweek had Simpson’s mugshot on their covers. Placed side by side on newsstand it can be seen that TIME’s cover had darkened Simpson’s skin. Since the case was already laced with racial tension, it caused massive public outcry.
The editor claimed he used his long-established style to give the image a dramatic tone.
Giving the editor the benefit of the doubt I will say that this picture was edited to look more aesthetic to make the image look more intense.

SEPT 14 2001- PHOTO BY ERIC DRAPER
This photograph was taken by the lead Bush administration photographer, Eric Draper when Bush was flying over the smouldering World Trade Center, just a few days after the attacks. He was departing New York City en route to Washington, and smoke was still billowing from the collapsed buildings. President Bush is shown to be completely upset, at a loss, and apologetic of what had taken place.
However, according to contexts outside of the image, it seems as if the photographer was intending to be deceptive to the viewers. The posing was meant to be recognized, but not in a negative light claiming that it was fake. (The actual posing/manipulation factor was not meant to be recognized.) A detrimental moment to Bush’s presidency was his Katrina flyover, when he is shown looking out of the window rather calmly in the face of such immense catastrophic damage. Meanwhile, later in this image of Bush’s World Trade Center flyover, he seems to be more sympathetic and upset. Therefore, the image acts as a defense, or a “flyover do-over” to try and change the audience’s views on Bush by showing something that may intentionally be deceptive, as it drowns the aura of the past event.

There are two common reasons cited for attacks. Firstly, sharks mistake swimmers for their usual prey such as seals, especially if they thrash about in water and wear shiny objects that resemble fish skin. Secondly, sharks take an exploratory bite to see if we are suitable food and when they discover we are puny fare, we are spat out. The purpose of the photo is to convey the message of sharks being dangerous, and keep out of that specific area. This photo is deceptive, because it’s message is not always true, sometimes some animals might try to attack only reason being cause their self defensing themselves, just like we humans would do.
# 2, The content outside the frame would change the meaning.

The story of this image is that it was taken at the 2017 Women’s march, which was a day after President Trump’s inauguration and that the crowd had supportive posters. In actuality, posters that contained hateful words directed at President Trump were blurred in addition to words regarding the female anatomy. This photo was used to send a positive message in Trump’s eyes, despite the fact that he undermined these women and changed their message that they wanted the public to see. Trump obviously did not want anyone to notice what was really being said in the picture, however the truth did come out due to the angered protesters.
This context was altered to be deceptive. The publishers wanted to deceive the public into thinking women support trump and don’t think ill of him.

This photo was distributed by the Associated Press with the caption: “In a photo taken, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, It was taken during an exchange during a fire with government forces in Telata village. After the photo was released, Narciso Contreras admitted to editing the photo by taking his camera out of the shot because he thought that the person looking at it was going to get distracted and not see the real point behind the photo. The categories these pictures fall into are Aesthetic because Narciso Contreras was just trying to make people understand the real point and meaning behind the image and he didn’t want any distractions in the way of that.

http://www.alteredimagesbdc.org/#/walski/ This is a photo of a British soldier warning Iraqi civilians to take cover. However it was shown in the papers captioned “Warning: A British soldier manning the Azubayr Bridge orders fleeing Basra residents to hit the dirt as Iraqi forces open fire.” This manipulated the meaning of the photo. I would say the original photo was not meant to be noticed but the published one was. This was for deceptive purposes because it altered the meaning.

The photo of the egyptian pyramids have been edited after it was taken. The edited is of the pyramids being closer together on the National Geographic cover. The manipulation is not meant to be noticed. The purpose of this photo I believe is for the aesthetic. The photo in the cover was meant to appease the horizonal shape to make the image look better.

In March 2005 a picture of Marine recruits standing against a wall at a training site in South Carolina was on the cover of Harper’s Magazine. The headline stated: “AWOL in America: When Desertion Is the Only Option.”
In this picture the photo-manipulation was not meant to be noticed. Personally, I think the purpose of this picture is deceptive as the context outside the frame changes the meaning of the picture as well as makes you believe something that isn’t true. The context outside the frame states that the Marines are AWOL and deserters. In reality the Marines were not deserters and not AWOL, they were uninformed of the context the image was used in.
