Kenapa Saya Kembali Menekuni IT (Software Developer)

“Kamu salah milih jurusan, zam, nyasar.” kata teman kuliah ku dulu.

“Lho, kok ini prestasimu malah banyak di bidang IT,” Kata seorang dosen wali ketika melihat CV ku.

“Sarjana Ekonomi Islam kok profesinya web publisher?” Kata seorang admin melihat formulir pengajuan KTA salah satu ormas Islam yang iseng-iseng ku submit.

Pertanyaannya justru kenapa saya ngambil S1 Ekonomi Syariah dan bahkan berlanjut hingga S2. Padahal sejak kelas 1 SD memang passionate sama IT.

Well, ceritanya panjang dan agak absurd. Dan takkan kuceritakan kali ini. Di semester awal pernah bahkan benar-benar menyesal dan mempertanyakan diri sendiri, walau pada akhirnya lulus dan sedikit menyesal. Tetapi sekarang sudah tidak lagi, karena semuanya seperti mulai make sense.

Beberapa bulan ke depan saya ikut sebuah bootcamp (training), untuk kembali belajar skilset yang merupakan bagian dari IT, khususnya software engineering. Saya belajar web development, wordpress development, python, beberapa front-end language seperti HTML, CSS dan Javascript, some PHP, SQL, data analytics, hingga data science.

Ngapain masih ngejar IT? Banting Setir?

0. Seperti yang saya sudah bilang, saya memang punya passion IT sejak kecil.

1. Sebenarnya saya sudah memegang web design 13-14 tahun lalu, sejak SMP, yang kala itu masih langka sekali. Software yang dipakai waktu itu adalah Microsoft Frontpage dan Macromedia Dreamweaver, yang kemudian diakuisisi oleh Adobe. Dua kali ikut lomba pas SMP, satu kali menang. Salah satu anggota tim sekarang beneran jadi programmer, satu lagi wafat, satu lagi nyasar ke ekonomi syariah.

2. Waktu SMA udah narget ingin ikut Olimpiade IT. Orang tua saya membelikan laptop (kala itu masih jarang banget siswa pakai laptop). Langganan Majalah Komputer. Tapi, ternyata, saya tidak lolos seleksi masuk tim SMA, karena kemampuan Matematika saya kurang. Benar-benar pukulan keras kala itu. Sejak itulah saya agak minder, tak lagi bermimpi macam-macam. Bahkan berpikir untuk kuliah di jurusan IT di PTN top saja sudah kurang yakin. Meski begitu masih sempat juga membawa SMA juara cerdas cermat IT di tingkat kota.

3. Ketika S1 saya belum sepenuhnya melupakan minat tersebut, meski tidak pernah lagi mempelajarinya secara mendalam. Pada tahun 2015 saya mengikuti lomba blog ekonomi Syariah dan membuat artikel tentang Platform Crowdfunding Syariah (dulu masih jarang), itupun juga berhubungan dengan IT. Saya mengerjakan tugas akhir juga memakai metode machine learning, itupun juga IT. Bahkan sempat pengen lanjut S2 di bidang IT.

4. Memang, tentu saja saya tidak lanjut S2 IT. Pengennya tetap lanjut ekonomi syariah karena pengan jadi Dosen. Karena passion lainku adalah mengajar. Meski begitu saya juga tidak jadi. Saya malah milih belajar Digital Marketing di sebuah pesantren di tengah kampung di kabupaten yang saya tak pernah datangi, yaitu Sintesa, Magetan. Selama setahun. Lagi-lagi temanku mempertanyakan pilihan anehku.

5. Mulai dari sana sampai lulus tahun 2017, lalu sampai tahun 2018, saya fokus berprofesi sebagai digital marketer. Di tahun tersebut jugalah lahir muamala.net, website media ekonomi syariah. Hal tersebut tidak ringan, karena menjadi digital marketer itu naik turun juga.

6. Pada tahun 2019 saya akhirnya bisa menjalani mimpi saya, yaitu lanjut S2 di UGM, meski awalnya ingin lanjut di luar negeri. Dan meski banyak mengorbankan hal lainnya termasuk pekerjaan.

Udah gitu ngapain belajar skillset di atas lagi? Coding? Web development? Ga nyambung.

1. Memang sekilas ngga nyambung. Tapi kl saya ngga ada skill di sana (meski sekarang pas2an) dan skill SEO, mungkin ngga ada web muamala.net, yang terhitung saat ini telah dibaca oleh 3 juta pengunjung.

2. Web muamala.net dan proyek digital marketing lagi turun baik karena efek algoritma ataupun covid. Dan karena kesibukan kuliah, masalah hati & kesehatan mental, saya tak bisa terlalu banyak mengurusinya. Belum lagi digital marketing itu butuh waktu dan modal, tetapi hasilnya sebagai bisnis pada umumnya, yaitu tidak pasti.

3. Waktu S2 ku tak lama lagi, dan saya tidak bisa berharap kepada yang belum pasti, oleh karena itu saya berusaha menciptakan kepastian dengan ikut coding bootcamp.

4. Yang saya kejar adalah agar bisa remote work keluar negeri, karena potensi pendapatannya cukup besar. Anda hidup di Indonesia dengan biaya Indonesia, tetapi digaji dengan standar upah dollar.

5. Berkerja di bidang ini tak mengharuskan Anda lulusan IT, punya koneksi, atau bahkan pengalaman kerja. Kuncinya cuma satu: portofolio.

Apakah ga nyambung?

Memang, sebenarnya saya awalnya juga berpikir begitu. Merasa melakukan hal yang berbeda dunia. Yang akhirnya tidak ada yang maksimal. Tetapi kini saya seperti menemukan titik temunya, entah disebut irisan atau titik yang bersambung. Menjadi hal baru yang unik.

1. Web development jelas akan menunjang web muamala ku ke depannya.

2. Jasa web development juga akan mengasah skill bisnisku.

3. Berkerja remote keluar negeri juga mengasah pengalaman paparan internasionalku (penting jika jadi akademisi ke depan)

4. Belajar coding bahasa seperti python sangat bermanfaat buat ilmu ekonomi, keuangan atau manajemen, karena bahasa tersebut saat ini lumrah digunakan untuk penelitian, baik data analytics ataupun data science.

5. Pendapatan dari remotework tersebut juga bisa digunakan untuk lanjut S3 suatu saat, jika tidak mendapat beasiswa. Bahkan, karena remote bisa berkerja sambil lanjut kuliah.

Lha, katanya pengen jadi dosen?

Ya memang, tapi:

1. Bagiku menjadi dosen bukanlah untuk profesi atau mencari rezeki, tapi mengajar, bagiku adalah passion. Apalagi mengajar ekonomi syariah, sekalian dakwah, yakan. Untuk mencari cuan saya mencari di luar itu.

2. Kesempatan menjadi dosen bukanlah hal yang bisa dipilh kapan saja dan di mana saja. Untung-untungan. Padahal saya tidak mempertimbangkan menjadi dosen kecuali di 3 kota yaitu, Balikpapan, Samarinda, Jogja. Tentu lowongan untuk jadi dosen di sana tidak selalu ada.

3. Daripada nunggu yang tidak pasti tentunya kita melakukan hal yang pasti terlebih dahulu.

4. Dengan belajar python for data analytics dan data science saya tetap bisa melakukan penelitian meski, misal, belum jadi akademisi.

5. Pada akhirnya semua mengalami konvergensi, dan menciptakan sesuatu yang baru dan unik.

Begitulah kira-kira alasan saya kembali menekuni dunia IT, khususnya coding. Sebenarnya tulisannya lebih untuk diri saya sendiri, agar saya selalu ingat dan bersemangat. Karena terkadang saya merasa ragu dan sendiri menjalani jalan yang campur-campur ini. Terkadang seperti kehilangan jati diri, apalagi ketika membandingkannya dengan orang-orang sekitar.

Belum lagi 3 bulan di akhir 2020 ini saya juga harus garap tesis, sehingga benar-benar full menghabiskan seluruh waktu dan pikiran saya. Bahkan sudah tidak mikir apa-apa lagi. Kegiatan sosialpun banyak tereduksi (meski covid membuatnya normal).

Abstract

Preservation of research data is an important policy requirement for universities and research organizations so as to manage research data at organizational level and make it available lifelong. However, the importance research data management especially in the context of e-research and data intensive research is not widely recognized both by researchers and research organizations due to lack of research data literacy. In the Indian context, it is essential to formulate a national data sharing and accessibility policy so that Indian universities and research organizations can cope research data.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian dan pengembangan ini adalah untuk mengembangkan variasi latihan kekuatan otot tungkai dan otot perut untuk atlet futsal pada tim putri Universitas Negeri Malang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian pengembangan ini yaitu dengan menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) yang diadobsi dari Borg and Gall. Subyek penelitian ini melibatkan 20 atlet futsal putri Universitas Negeri Malang, pelatih, dua ahli media, dan dua ahli kepelatihan futsal. Data yang terkumpul dari ahli media dengan persentase sebesar 90%, ahli kepelatihan futsal sebesar 88,61%, uji coba kelompok kecil atlet futsal putri Universitas Negeri Malang sebesar 83,56%, uji coba kelompok besar atlet futsal putri Universitas Negeri Malang sebesar 91,13%. Dari hasil penelitian dan pengembangan dapat disimpulkan bahwa variasi latihan kekuatan otot tungkai dan otot perut untuk atlet futsal pada tim putri Universitas Negeri Malang sangat valid atau layak digunakan sebagai referensi sumber latihan.

World Crisis: Increasing Depression During Work from Home in COVID-19 Pandemic

Today in almost every corner of the world COVID-19 has established its kingdom. Numerous people have caught the virus (we now have more than 2 million cases worldwide), more than 100k people have died and there is no stoppage on the spread of this deadly Virus. This has created a situation of chaos all around the globe, which has enforced the government to take strict actions in order to control the widespread disease. This has resulted in countrywide lockdowns and curfews.

In this situation of quarantine most of the Private Organizations have opted in for Work from home for their employees so as to keep the business functional in accordance with the health and life of their employees. It is literally a hard truth that productivity and pace of doing the work decreases while working from home on laptops but nonetheless this was the only option which could save the business of various firms.

In accordance with the lower curves of profits, private firm have started to push their employees to work more harder than usual and go extra miles. there are various industries where business is on the verge of shut e.g. Hotels, Tourism etc. people from calling jobs have less work, people from sales have to work harder to crack the deal and people from other departments are struggling too. Though the myth of working from home is very delightful because obviously you are in your home with your parents and relatives but recent stats have showed that majority of the population is suffering or on the verge of mental illness or depression.

While working from home certain problems are being faced by employees like working on small screens ( those who don’t have full fledge systems at their home ) , working for more hours than usual ( regular extension of shifts due to business needs ) , constant environment as people are sitting at same place for many days , less recreational activities and less movement due to refrain from moving out during lockdown , socialization have decreased on lively basis and have increased on web ( people are using cellphones day and night ) which results in various health related problems , social distancing is causing trouble for many as now there is almost negligible interaction among people.

People are showing the signs of stress due to certain reasons like job security, handling the needs of their family, dealing with more than usual work, salary cuts, disturbing work life balance etc. Therefore, more and more people are becoming the victim of this pandemic situation and are unable to cope up with the kind of pressure it has created on mankind which results in mental illness, anxiety, negativity and depression among people. This has resulted in reduction of productivity in employees. People have lost the interest in the work which earlier they used to do with full enthusiasm, be it their office work, be it their hobbies, be it their daily routine work. while becoming the victim of stress and depression few of the people have started to skip their daily meals too and hence situations are becoming adverse.

As the situation is not so good as COVID-19 is affecting our economy as well as health, we should be prepared for the worse as things will get more worse before they become better.

Economy has fallen since the arrival of this virus and there is no way to turn this down. People are donating the fund for relief and government is cutting the salary of government employees. Many are becoming homeless and many are becoming jobless, hunger and shelter is becoming the new reason for death now. No doubt that situation is tough and hence employees working from home are taking stress and becoming the victim of depression due to certain fear factors as explained above. There should be a process to resolve this issue before it becomes chaotic.

To keep the mental health stable people should focus on positive side rather than encompassing their energy in negativity. Though majority of the situation is not so positive still there are certain steps which people can take , like talking with friends once a day , talking with parents at least an hour a day , discuss your problems and issues with someone with whom you can share , try to learn new things ( things which you wanted to do since long ) , try to brush up your skills , try to develop new good habit ( like waking up early ), never skip your meal no matter what the situation is ( for current situation it is a real necessity to keep your immunity in a good state ) , try to do meditation and yoga in the morning if possible , stop taking unwanted stress and believe yourself , try to take good sleep daily so as to heal your cells to prepare for next morning. The best thing we as a human being can do is to provide helping hands to those who are in need.

So, let’s get prepared to handle this pandemic together and let us all promise that together we will defeat this virus too.

He was awarded “Junior Research Fellowship-JRF”, DST-Funded Project at “Malaviya National Institute of Technology- MNIT”, Jaipur and “Young Scientists Award” for Best Research Paper Presentation in 2nd National Conference on Forensic Science and Criminalistics and “Excellence in Reviewing Award” in International Journal for Innovative Research in Science & Technology (IJIRST). He has published 8 Book Chapter in various National and International publishers and Published more than 62 Research & Review Papers in peer Review International Journals and Published Article various Newspaper or Websites. He has been serving as a Managing Editor in IMILRJ and Editorial Board Member of 20 International Journals and Reviewer of 18 International journals. He has completed 12 certified courses from Elsevier Research Academy and Certificate course “Forensic Science and Criminal Justice”, University of Leicester (United Kingdom), “Forensic Anthropology”, True Forensic Science Academy, USA. He has been Participating and 30 other International University & Presenting his research work for more than 38 National & International Conferences & Workshops and organized more than 12 National and International Conferences or Webinar & Workshops.

Shriyash Mohril, born on 12 February 1997 Bhopal. He has completed B.Tech. in Electronic & Communication. Currently he is working as Process Associate at Roboticswares Pvt. Ltd. Noida, U.P. He has done trainings in BSNL, Huawei, project-based training program on “Home Automation and solar smart Energy Systems” from Skyfi Labs and Industrial Training on Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). He has published more than 6 Research & Review Papers in peer Review International Journals and submitted 3 publication in International journal & one book chapter also submitted. He has completed 20 certified online courses from various International Universities. He has been Participating & Presenting his research work for Various National & International Conferences & Workshops Seminar.

Lokesh Vaishanav, Currently Working as a Database Associate at Cvent. He has done graduation B. Tech in Computer Science from Galgotias University. In his plus 12 he and his colleagues had won the robotics competition and went to IIT Mumbai for further participation. Since than he did many projects in his B – Tech life specially in Data science field. With his proficiency in R programming and SQL he has implemented the research-based project on Android behavioral analysis based on permission analysis. Also, he had published some review papers based on his above project and other ones. He has a great dedication in Data science field and he aspire ro become a full-fledged Data scientist one day.
