So WoW is my main competitive game and I take it seriously. But FFXIV has always been my main game like, period. And as much as I love WoW for the reasons that I play it (namely, mythic raiding/parsing and RP) every time I play FFXIV I can't help but feel extremely bitter towards WoW.
WoW has:
A more competitive environment and culture around pushing numbers (this is a positive to me)
Difficult fast paced raiding scene with an amount of prestige generally not found in other MMOs
A fleshed out, active RP community on my server (moonguard)
An open world that feels more alive due to the lack of loading screens between zones
FFXIV has:
Better fashion
More developer support for RP through extensive emotes etc (more on this later)
A better community as a whole
A better story
A better gearing system by the numbers, ie. This weapon is this and that's it, there's no variable. The reward structure is another topic though
BETTER RAIDS, I'M SORRY BUT IT'S TRUE. (Also more on this later)
Have I mentioned how much better the fashion is?
In regards to emotes, not only are there extensively more of them, they're variable based on things like height etc and they aren't race locked. I am so sick and tired of WoW players saying they can't let, for example, my nelf use the undead dance because they're on different skeletons. Yeah, and??? Idk what to tell you, put in the effort? They're on different skeletons in FF too but every race can use all 20 or whatever dances in that game. Stop making excuses for a company that makes billions of dollars a year.
And WoW combat is fucked, point blank end of story. Sure it's faster with a quicker GCD and it IS satisfying, otherwise I wouldn't be playing it competitively. But the fights are on two ends of the spectrum. TO THIS DAY we still have tank and spank bosses, even in end game dungeons. This is unacceptable. And on the other end of the spectrum you have fights like mythic fyrakk that are virtually impossible without extensive use of weak auras for player assignment during mechanics, DBM/big wigs for callouts etc. This is also unacceptable. They've gotten a little better with telegraphing mechanics but it's still like looking at a toddler try to cram a square peg into a round hole compared to ffxiv. It is so PATHETIC that I can run a low level dungeon in ffxiv and have a more engaging boss fight at level 60 than I'll find doing M+ at max level in WoW, and it's laughably bad at normal mode dungeons or god forbid anything pre max level.
The fact that the developers have said that they design fights around players using add-ons just makes me so angry. They need to disable and ban every single addon. Every combat addon, every cosmetic addon, ui addons, even TRP. Just get rid of all of them. Because only then will the developers have to actually do their EFFING JOB. They have gotten lazy and apathetic and it's no wonder their fucking game is dying, they have no heart in it anymore.
Design better fights! Fix your UI! And for fucks sake give us better looking fashion and let my nelf rock out with the undead dance!

HEALTH Informatics Presentation For this case assignment, you will be assuming the role of a lead person on a technology review committee at a multi-facility regional hospital. Your committee has been tasked with evaluating the plausibility and possible selection of a new health information system that will enable the hospital to electronically collect and share patient medical history information among its various hospital centers and departments. Currently, each hospital center maintains paper copies and files of patient records, which are separately managed and stored at each facility. Very few of the electronically based information system are integrated between the various centers and locations. To add to the challenge, the CIO informs you that most of the members on the committee have very limited experience with information systems and databases. However, the CIO is aware that you are studying health informatics, so she has asked you to help familiarize the committee with fundamental concepts related to databases systems and relevant health information standards. Specifically, the CIO (and your professor) request that you prepare a three to four (full) page paper for presentation to the committee that provides a good overview of the following: Fundamentals of database characteristics and structure. Various types of medical data and information records relevant to this project. The importance of uniform terminology, coding and standardization of the data Fundamentals of database characteristics and structure. Often abbreviated DB. A collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. You can think of a database as an electronic filing system. Traditional databases are organized by fields, records, and files. A field is a single piece of information; a record is one complete set of fields; and a file is a collection of records. For example, a telephone book is analogous to a file. It contains a list of records, each of which consists of three fields: name, address, and telephone number. An alternative concept in database design is known as Hypertext. In a Hypertext database, any object, whether it be a piece of text, a picture, or a film, can be linked to any other object. Hypertext databases are particularly useful for organizing large amounts of disparate information, but they are not designed for numerical analysis. Ordinarily, medical records are scanned into the database so that they can be readily shared with others who need access to them To access information from a database, you need a database management system (DBMS). This is a collection of programs that enables you to enter, organize, and select data in a database. Various types of medical data and information records relevant to this project. Besides information about physical health, electronic medical records may include infomation about family relationships, sexual behavior, substance abuse, and even the private thoughts and feelings that come with psychotheraphy. This information is often keyed to a social security number.. Another problem is the widespread public concern about the privacy of medical information, especially genetic information. In response to this public anxiety, Congress tried to develop legislation to protect the public against adverse uses of this information by insurers and employers, but it was unable to put together a majority in support of any of the proposals that attempted to find the right balance between the competing interests of individual privacy and the compelling public benefits to be derived from the use of medical information to further biomedical, behavioral, epidemiological, and health services research. As a result, it fell to the Clinton administration to write health information privacy regulations. These regulations were announced with much fanfare in the closing days of that administration and implemented by the Bush administration in April 2001. The importance of uniform terminology, coding and standardization of the data Uniform terminology, coding, and standardized data entry protocols are necessary for assuring accurate information retrieval. The health informatics componentss need to be using compliance plan in place. Here are some guidelines for assurring the acurracy of terminology, coding, and data entry. Conduct internal monitoring through periodic chart audits Develop written coding and documentation standards and procedures, and implement them; Designate one of your staff members as a compliance of-cer to monitor your practice's compliance Respond appropriately to potential violations by investigating and disclosing them, as• Develop open lines of communication by discussing at staff meetings how to avoid erroneous or fraudulent conduct or by using a community bulletin board to keep employees Develop a CPT utilization report. Separate your Medicare patients from your otherpatients for a more appropriate analysis. A useful template is available online at http://www.aafp.org/fpm/20020700/codingfrequencycomparison.xls. Compare your practice to benchmarks. For Medicare, see CMS 2002 data online at http://www.aafp.org/fpm/20040600/20arey.html#box_a.For commercial claims, see MGMA2003 survey results at http://www.aafp.org/fpm/20040600/20arey.html#box_b Be prepared to explain the coding variances. Ask yourself questions such as the following: Were the services medically necessary? What was the clinical judgment used to treat thepatient's condition? Does the documentation support the E/M level billed? Know your risk areas. The OIG has identi-ed some potential compliance risk areas for physician practices: coding and billing, documentation, and "reasonable" and "necessary"services. Find out which of these areas is your weakest, and take steps to improve. Perform internal chart audits. You can use a peer-review process, have a certi-ed coderreview your charts, or do both. For peer review, try the audit form published by FPM Opportunities include coding and compliance educational courses, and Web-based courses from CMS available online at http://cms.meridianksi.com/kc/main/kc_frame. Conclusion Some health care providers and insurance companies are forming regional information networks to share electronic medical records. Their reasoning for setting up these data banks is to help with the reduction of paperwork, help with billing, identify the most cost-effective treatment, and to fight against false claims. A person's medical information would be immediately available for the attending doctor. Therefore if an individual was injured in another part of the country, the attending physicians would have the patient's entire medical history at their fingertips. Included in this information could be life saving information that would be invaluable to the attending doctor. The creation of a large database would also allow researchers to track certain diseases as well as to patients' responses to certain drugs. This information could be valuable to drug companies for research purposes only. The creation of these databases would allow for better organization and more legibility of medical files. Since elaborate security systems can be developed to monitor these medical databases, electronic records may actually be more secure than paper records. Anyone can steal and/or fax a copy of a paper record without leaving a trace. A database is a structured collection of data. It organizes information to make it easy to access, manage, and update.
Think of a database as a digital filing system. It stores data in an organized manner to facilitate quick retrieval.
Databases are used across industries, from banking to healthcare, to keep track of information. They support decision-making by providing insights based on data analysis.
Each piece of data in a database is called a record. These records are stored in tables, which consist of rows and columns. Tables allow for efficient data management and retrieval.
The format and organization of a database enable users to find specific information quickly. This makes databases indispensable in data-driven environments.
What is a Database Management System (DBMS)?
A Database Management System (DBMS) is software that manages databases. It serves as an interface between users and the data in the databases.
The primary role of a DBMS is to manage the data stored in a database effectively. It allows users to perform operations like querying, updating, and administration.
DBMSs provide a systematic way to create, retrieve, update, and manage data. They ensure data integrity, security, and consistency.
Additionally, a DBMS allows multiple users to interact with the database simultaneously. It handles data concurrency and ensures that operations do not interfere with one another.
Prominent examples of DBMS software include Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. These tools support a wide range of database management tasks and are widely used across industries.
The Evolution of Database Management Systems
The evolution of database management systems (DBMS) reflects the growing complexity of data needs. Originally, databases were simple, flat files used to store data sequentially. This approach had limitations in terms of scalability and efficiency.
As technology advanced, hierarchical and network models emerged. These models enhanced data retrieval and storage capabilities. However, they were still complex and rigid, making updates cumbersome.
The relational database model, introduced by E.F. Codd in 1970, marked a significant breakthrough. It used tables to store data, making it more flexible and easier to query.
The adoption of SQL (Structured Query Language) further streamlined interactions with databases. It became the standard language for relational databases.
In recent years, NoSQL databases have gained popularity. These databases accommodate unstructured and semi-structured data. They offer scalability and are ideal for handling big data and real-time web applications.
Today, cloud-based database management systems are transforming data storage and accessibility. They offer advantages like cost efficiency, scalability, and remote access.

NoSQL databases come in various forms, such as document, key-value, column-family, and graph databases. Each form serves different data storage needs, from simple lookups to complex networking relationships.
These databases suit applications with high data volume and variety. Social media platforms, IoT, and web applications benefit from their scalability and speed. They thrive where traditional relational databases might struggle with agility.
Distributed Databases
Distributed databases enhance scalability and availability by spreading data across multiple servers or locations. They ensure data redundancy, enhancing fault tolerance and reducing downtime.
This approach allows databases to handle large amounts of data efficiently. Distributed databases offer load balancing, ensuring optimal performance even during peak usage.
Applications that require high availability and extensive reach, such as global online services, benefit from distributed databases. They provide robust support for geographically dispersed data and users, improving access speed and reliability.
Key Components and Design Principles of a Database
Understanding the key components of a database is crucial for effective management. These components form the foundation on which data is structured and queried. Knowing them helps in designing efficient databases.
Essential components include tables, records, fields, and keys. Each part plays a specific role in storing and organizing data effectively. Let’s explore these components:
Tables: The core structure, holding data.
Records: Individual entries within a table.
Fields: Columns that define data types.
Keys: Unique identifiers that link data across tables.
Database design principles ensure the system remains reliable and secure. Consistency, integrity, and security are paramount. These principles guide the formation of robust databases.
Designing a database involves careful planning. A well-designed database enhances data retrieval and reduces redundancy. Let’s delve deeper into the main components that make this possible.
Tables, Records, Fields, Keys
Tables form the backbone of a database. They organize data into rows and columns. Each row is a record, representing a single data item. Columns, known as fields, specify the type of data stored.
Fields define data characteristics and constraints. They ensure every piece of data fits within the database structure. Clear field definitions prevent errors and maintain data quality.
Keys are the unique identifiers that relate tables. Primary keys uniquely identify each record in a table. Foreign keys create links between tables, establishing relationships and ensuring data consistency across the system.
Database Design Principles: Consistency, Integrity, Security
Consistency ensures that a database operates uniformly across transactions. It maintains uniformity, even when multiple users access the database. Consistent systems perform predictable operations.
Integrity involves validating data, ensuring accuracy, and correctness. It involves constraints and rules that govern data entry. Data integrity prevents errors, preserving the quality and credibility of information stored.
Security is crucial to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access. It involves authentication, encryption, and access controls. Secure databases protect user data and comply with regulatory requirements.
