RESPECT FOR WOMEN
Garib, kaamini kaamini bhed hai, ek heera ek laal. Datt Gusain avatare, Ansuya kai naal. Garib, naari naari kya karai, naari ka prakash. Naari seeti oopje, Naradmuni se daas.
Supreme God Kabir Has revealed that Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, and great sages like Dattatreya and Narad Muni were born from a woman's womb. Great saints like Dhanna Bhakt, Nanak Dev, Swami Ramanand, and Sant Dadu Ji were also born from women. Thus, a woman of such character deserves respect. It is clear that whether a man is immoral or a woman is adulterous, both are guilty of sin.

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the release of the iconic film #Zanjeer (11/05/1973).
Directed and produced by Prakash Mehra and written by Salim-Javed, the film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan, and Bindu. Released at a time when India was facing issues like corruption and low economic growth, Zanjeer became a turning point for Hindi cinema, shifting it towards a more violent and aggressive direction.
The film not only marked the end of Bachchan's struggling period but also turned him into a rising star. Zanjeer's success led to many subsequent collaborations between Salim-Javed and Bachchan, establishing him as a superstar and inspiring future generations of actors.
Moreover, Zanjeer had a significant impact on South Indian cinema as well, with Bachchan's acting inspiring future Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. Today, Zanjeer is regarded as a classic and an important film in the history of Indian cinema. Let's celebrate the 50th anniversary of this masterpiece and its contribution to Indian cinema.
The lead role in Zanjeer was offered to several established actors including Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raaj Kumar, and Dharmendra, but all of them turned it down. At that time, Rajesh Khanna was at the height of his popularity as a romantic hero, and the film industry was dominated by romance movies. However, Zanjeer, which did not feature a single romantic scene between the lead pair of Amitabh and Jaya, marked a new direction for Hindi cinema.
Many actors who refused the film were concerned that it would damage their image, but Amitabh Bachchan, who had yet to establish himself as a star, took the risk and accepted the role. As history shows, it paid off, and Zanjeer became a turning point in Bachchan's career, paving the way for his superstardom in the years to come.
#AmitabhBachchan, #JayaBachchan, #PrakashMehra, and others at the muhurat of Zanjeer.

Landmarks of Model Town
Alpana Cinema (now closed) is situated near Model Town 1 crossing which was not only one of the reputed Cinema Halls of Delhi but also a well-known landmark of the area. Chhatrasal Stadium is also situated opposite Model Town 3 in the area and was used for soccer matches during the Asian Games, held in Delhi, India in the 80s Model Town is connected by the Delhi Metro on the Vishwavidyalaya route and has one stop Model Town metro Station.
Its actual postal address is only Model Town 110009, however as it has 3 bus stops on the main road people use too often refer to the location of the stop as reference landmark (e.g. near Model Town 1st stop) which is now often referred as Model Town 1 or 2 or 3.
Model Town 1 has a lake called Naini Lake in the middle of the locality with a boating facility and has a walking path around the lake for morning and evening walkers. This lake is maintained by the Delhi Tourism.
The Grand Trunk Road (originally built under the reign of Sher Shah Suri) is close to Model Town, and the Historic Gurudwara Nanak Piao is located in the road. This Gurudwara sahib is dedicated to the first Sikh Guru, Sri Guru nanak Dev. The word "Piao" means to "offer liquid to drink" and refers to the offering of water to all the thirsty who visited this shrine.
The Foundation of the new capital of British India, New Delhi, was laid at the nearby Coronation park by King George V in December, 1911, making this area historically significant.

Supreme Court will not interfere in matters where call is to be taken by the Executive
Balwant Singh v. Union of India & Anr.
The Supreme Court (SC) of India dismissed the Criminal Petition of the Accused Balwant Singh one of the accused in the #CriminalConspiracy which had resulted in the #assassination of the then #ChiefMinister of #Punjab, Prakash Singh Badal. Further the Apex Court also didn’t find it appropriate to give #access to the #file of #Ministry of #HomeAffairs to the Petitioner.
This verdict was pronounced on 03.05.2023 by the Division Bench of the Apex Court comprising Hon’ble Justice B R Gavai J, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath J & Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol J.
The present Criminal petition was filed for calling the record of #mercypetition submitted on 25.03.2012 seeking clemency from the President of India under Article 72 of the Constitution of India (COI). And to commute the death sentence into life imprisonment because of inordinate delay in deciding the mercy petition.
Fact: Balwant Singh, the petitioner in this case, is one of the accused who had hatched  criminal conspiracy along with 8 others (Jagtar Singh Hawara, Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh and Nasib Singh.) and had executed bomb blast on 31.08.95 in which Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal along with 16 others lost their lives and many were injured.
The Trial Court convicted the accused for the offence pertaining to Sections 120-B, 302, 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860and u/s.3(b), 4(b) and 5(b) r/w 6 of Explosives Substances Act, 1908 and awarded death sentence.
In reference High Court confirmed the conviction and sentence of the accused (Petitioner Balwant Singh) but commuted the death sentence of Jagtar Singh into life imprisonment. However Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed Appeal before the Supreme Court against the commuting of death sentence into life imprisonment in the case of Jagtar Singh which is pending for consideration.
Other co-accused preferred appeal against the judgement of the High Court (HC) before the Apex Court but the present petitioner didn’t preferred any appeal or any Mercy Petition before the President of India.
The mercy petition pending before the President of India is filed by Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) on behalf of the Petitioner Balwant Singh.
Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on 27.09.2019 initiated a proposal on the occasion of commemoration of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji proposing special remission and release of prisoners.
Submission of the Petitioner Counsel:
Communication dt.27.09.2019 of Ministry pf Home Affairs, Government of India provided that 8 Sikh persons be given special remission under Article 161 of the Constitution of India and be released from prison and a further proposal for commutation of death sentence to life imprisonment of one prisoner (petitioner) is to be processed under Article 72 of the Constitution of India.
Till date no decision has been taken.
As the State and the Union of India have not been able to decide the Mercy Petition which is pending for more than 10 years, this Court itself may grant that commutation.
Submission of the Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG)
Petitioner having expressed in specific terms that he has no faith in the judiciary of this country and that he did not regret at all being part of the crime and further has used contemptuous terms before the High Court which have been duly recorded, wherefore he does not deserve any mercy in view of his conduct.
Till date the petitioner himself has not submitted any Mercy Petition. The Mercy Petition dated 25.03.2012 was submitted by the SGPC. When the petitioner has not filed any Mercy Petition himself, there is no question of granting any relief as claimed.
Ministry of Home Affairs, upon material consideration of various reports from its different branches, has come to the conclusion that the consideration may be deferred as it could have an impact of compromising the security of the nation & creating law and order situation
Criminal Appeals filed by the co-accused Lakhwinder Singh & Jagtar Singh are still pending before this Court, as such consideration of any Mercy Petition would arise only after disposal of those appeals.
Criminal Appeal filed by CBI is also pending against the commuting of death sentence into lfe imprisonment in case of Jagtar Singh.
The decision in these appeals pending before this Court would be a relevant material and while considering the Mercy Petition the same could have a bearing. As such it would be appropriate to await the decision of the pending appeals.
There is no delay in consideration of the Mercy Petition. It is only after 27.09.2019 that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, required the State Government to send the proposal for commutation of death sentence to life imprisonment under Article 72 of the COI.
Considering the prevailing situation, a decision has been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs that it would be appropriate to defer taking any decision on the Mercy Petition as it could have serious potential of compromising the security of the nation or creating a law and order situation.
Observation of the Apex Court:
Delay in decision on Mercy Petition can’t be sustained.
Petitioner himself never submitted Mercy Petition. Mercy Petition on behalf of petitioner Balwant Singh was submitted by the SGPC.
The Ministry of Home Affairs communication dated 27.09.2019, is the proposal for considering the commutation of the death sentence of the petitioner was started and a decision was taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs to keep the same pending till disposal of the pending appeals before this Court, filed by the co-accused as well as by the CBI.
Deferring the decision by Ministry of Home Affairs amounts to a decision declining to grant the same for the present.
Since Ministry of Home Affairs, upon material consideration of various reports from its different branches, has come to the conclusion that the consideration may be deferred as it could have an impact of compromising the security of the nation or creating law and order situation.
It is within the domain of the executive to take a call on such sensitive issues.
This Court does not deem it appropriate to issue any further directions.

Review: O Kadhal Kanmani

Despite how old you've gotten watching Mani Ratnam, the excitement of watching his next never diminishes. Especially, when the movie works - part experience and part nostalgia. OK Kanmani is as simple as Mani Ratnam gets and as profound as any of his classic films on love. No non-linear timelines, no metaphors, no value judgements and no message, just a straight love story from the Mani Ratnam we thought we'd lost.
Yes, OK Kanmani is going to be branded by many as an update on 'Alaipayuthe'. While there's superficial merits to parallels, any such comparison is missing a larger point. OK Kanmani is an affirmation that love endures anything, even the age of instant gratification, fleeting relationships and self-centered ambitions. A reassurance that love, like an stubborn virus evolves and trumps even the most testing environments.
Many filmmakers find the divisions in an ever-changing India. Mani Ratnam finds his in the grind between a conservative past and the liberal ideas of the present. O Kadhal Kanmani balances a society that holds its nose to anything unconventional against the attitudes of millennials for whom living together is a convenience and signing up for a commitment is a shallow formality - an after-thought.
Aadi (Dulquer Salman) and Tara (Nithya Menen) rush into an open relationship and a live-in arrangement with no intent of settling down. Her architect scholarship's about to take her to Paris; his gaming-dev skills have currency in the US. Can their casual, time-boxed courtship fall turn into a commitment they both dread and declare taboo? Sounds very time-worn and ripe for sentimental pickings. Mani Ratnam, of course, dresses it up with his unwavering sense of aesthetics and his insane level of insight into the Gen Y's mind.
For multitudes of us, falling in love or cherishing the feeling of love is a brief high, a phase of life that we leave behind, in our rush to get on with the challenges and rigours our life; not for Mani Ratnam. He is that rare director who can lead you back into that corner of your heart that once used to throb with the excitement of living the moments of love. His comfort with dealing a romance can give any young or even semi-seasoned (uh hmm, GVM) director a complex.
Mani Ratnam's been repeating his rule on casting for decades now - "50% of the film is casting". Although, at times we've felt he doesn't follow his own advice. Not with OKK. There are four primary characters and each one of them pivots the story with maturity and confidence. Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen & Dulquer (in that order) light up the screen with such familiarity and freshness, like regular folks plucked from their living rooms, their pajamas still on. Prakash Raj's hamming could have been a major problem 'cause he shoulders a sizable portion of the movie and is the emotional core of OKK. He's in a league of his own here - a completely winsome performer.
Rahman's presence in a Mani Ratnam film cannot be anything along expected lines. As with all Mani Ratnamm movies, none of the songs you've heard going into the movie remain the same (shortened, remixed and reimagined) and there's the on-screen-exclusive thukda songs that are used aplenty here too. Waiting to get my hands on the background classical-funky fusion track (Kalyani's theme), in particular.
As if to mock folks calling out Mani's pattern of using of trains and stations, almost every scene features a loco compartment. The opening scene, staged on the platforms of Mumbai's CS terminus is a kicker, Mani goes one better on his usually impressive starting sequence. Mani and PC Sriram put on a show that reminds us why people still whistle to title cards bearing their names. Same with the rain too - no shying away from them, plenty of emotions drained and drenched under it. The MR-PC combination pulls off magical moments on screen that should lay to rest any claims to "next Mani Ratnam" or "next PC Sriram".
OK Kanmani

50years ago it was JP Movement by Loknayak Jay Prakash Narayan which revolutionize Indian political scenario resulting 1st non Congress government in India. He led the youth against a corrupt government. Today we need another Loknayak or Mahatma or a true peoples leader to bring a divided India together. Need of the hour is a leader who preaches and practices The nation first before Dev, Desh and Dharma.

In such chilly winter nights, when we're feeling so cold even inside our cozy homes, it hits differently, imagining those who spend these cold nights under the open sky.
So, we decided to step out and share the blankets with those in need and provide them with a little warm that we could.
Today, as we unfolded the blankets, we felt how much this small gesture means to those who do not have a shelter for themselves.
So here we are, following Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings - Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako.
It's not always about doing something big. It's about taking small steps on the path shown by our Gurus.
Join us in this noble cause and help those in need.
If anyone wants to be a part of this humble journey, please do let us know. Let's spread the warmth together.
