HERE SHE IS!!!
Spiderlily aka Persephone "Percy" Parks
- [ ] Bitten by a radioactive spider that crawled up from the well she fell into when she was ten. Since then, she's been able to sense things that aren't there, go invisible, start up machines with electricity, stronger, faster, and generally more enhanced. She could also put body parts back on and regenerate them as if they were never separated, and could store kinetic energy and release it in a big blast.
- [ ] Originally, Percy thought she died because the powers lined up with being a ghost, until she figured out it was a weird mix of magic and powers.
- [ ] After showing her parents, they believed it best to homeschool her with her grandmother until she got a handle especially since new abilities would also be coming. Just small magic, nothing big like being sorcerer supreme, more like taking care of magical problems here and there with small charms for luck, doing readings to see what the next test will be, communicating with ghosts and the like. The most the magic has ever helped with was excorsing a demon or mild telepathy to see what her parents were hiding from her.
- [ ] When she was 13, rivals of her families farm set the barn on fire. Because of a good luck charm her grandma sent, Percy was invited to a sleepover and wasn't there as the house burned down with everyone in it, which her grandma would have seen and this imparted the final words of wisdom to Percy.
- [ ] So she was moved to New York and put into a high level school courtesy of her uncle, who is distant and awkward, where she met her best friend Nelly Reeds and Gwen Stacy who was at one point stalked by a boy because she rejected them.
- [ ] Indignant about this, Percy used her skills to see a costume and escort her friend home, and then used a bit of science and magic to web sling back to her apartment, and gradually began building a reputation as spiderlily, the cryptic vigilante who worked before most other hero's had established themselves.
- [ ] Known for giving unclear advice, knowing everything, giving chances to villains when she saw they were serious. New York loves her.
- [ ] Gwen is her green goblin. She...doesn't really come back from that, either girl.
- [ ] Harry Osborn is who she has a crush on, because he's just so smart and he's so nice to her, but he's also magical stronger than she is it turns out but she won't discover that until later (when he's searching for her in TWST) and also he's sometimes possessed by the demon Venom.
- [ ] Nelly is her girl in the chair and helped with magic vs enhancement experiments, so that Percy could make her own webs if needed while Nelly could get to a lab to make more but she usually relies on bio webs. They discovered that with a little focus, Percy could do genuine magic and not just the sleight of hand, fortune telly kinda bullshit "magic" her grandma taught that actually worked.
- [ ] She thinks all the avengers are pricks, but a select few and it's not Tony Stark. Why does he mock her for her costume when she physically doesn't have the money or time to develop and armor and AI to help her.
- [ ] Her uncle is Ben, and he has a boyfriend that's the police chief. Yeah. His name is Maynard Jones.
- [ ] overall way less tech based for herself but villains are using tech to an absurd amount so she and nelly does know how to hack and take them down , uses tarot cards as weapons for extra spook factor, gives dreamcatchers to victims, charms to schoolmates, does readings for other superhero's before battles.
- [ ] Hobie Brown stumbled into her universe and she helped him back to spider society. Miguel O Hara invited her to be apart of the multiverse, which she accepted because she needs help on the tech side because she really does not have the resources to tinker with like other spider people, but it's like a very distant relationship until they bring in Gwen and Hobie and Pavitr and then try and trap Miles. Hobie and her get along spendidly because country bumpkin against the rich sits right with Hobies soul. Has also met Noir, Ham, and Penni, and even helped Penni specifically after the venom event in her universe.
- [ ] Has a multiverse watch, but has a track record of breaking it. Lyla hates her a bit for it. Uses mirrors as easier transport because the tech portals make her queasy.
- [ ] How she got to TWST:
- [ ] When she was pulled along to help fight the Spot, she found that she could track him through her web of mirrors. She was like a moth to a flame, bent on catching him to prevent the future that she saw happen via precognition. And she paid the price for it.
- [ ] When the Spot tried to flee, she was able to tangle him in a web and they fought through dimensions (also missing the entire spider society revolt). He searched for somewhere he could place her where she could never reach anyone she knew ever again and came upon the TWST universe.
- [ ] They tumbled out of the Dark Mirror, and he severed her arm with the multiverse watch off and disappeared to continue his plans. She reattached it of course but the damage was done. Percy doesn't know which universe she's in, and she doesn't have a way to go back. Because of her magic, the cellular decay will happen at a much much much slower rate.
- [ ] She is found vomiting on the floor by Crowley a week before school starts.

In all the other cases stop losses can result in a useless waste of money, without any real advantage for your business. That is clear since a share can move down even 10 or 15 per cent, if not more, in seconds or minutes and then rise again with the same speed or on the same day, and if your stop loss wasn’t set very skilfully probably you have lost money for nothing! Population Matters (charity who gave Harry and Meghan an award for only having two kids) gives an interview to The Times
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been lauded for their role in helping influence a growing number of young couples to limit the number of children they have for the sake of the environment.
New research shows that almost a third of young adults want to have fewer or no children because of their fears about the future of the planet.
Prince Harry cited environmental concerns when he revealed in 2019 that he and Meghan planned to limit their children to “two, maximum”. Their daughter Lilibet — younger sister to Archie — was born in June.
Robin Maynard, director of Population Matters, a British charity that aims to end population growth, said: “Harry and Meghan’s announcement in 2019 was a real turning point for anyone keen to create a more sustainable future for us.”
He added: “It's an incredibly responsible and powerful choice that Harry and Meghan have made, because choosing to have a maximum of two children — particularly in rich developed economies such as the US and UK — is the most effective eco-action you can take.”
His comments come days after the couple's former chief of staff, Catherine St-Laurent, said in an interview that the Sussexes aspire to become global influencers. She said: "I think they have the potential to be very influential leaders in the social impact space."
The duchess is working with Elton John’s husband, David Furnish, as executive producer on an animated series for Netflix, Pearl, about a “12-year-old heroine who finds inspiration in influential women from history”, it was announced this week.
A poll for Population Matters found that 32 per cent of 18-to-24-year-olds say concerns about the environmental effects of having children make them want to have fewer children or no children at all. Among 25-to-34-year-olds, this view is held by 22 per cent.
The Yonder poll of UK adults found that about one in six people between 18 and 35 do not want children at all (15 per cent), while six out of 10 wanted two children or fewer. Just over a quarter of respondents (27 per cent) wanted three or more children, with 3 per cent wanting five or more. Some 37 per cent of those polled wanted two; 7 per cent saying they wanted just one child; 18 per cent no children. This amounts to 62 per cent seeking a family below the “replacement rate” of 2.1, at which population is stable.
Maynard added: "As Prince Harry recognises, we’re out of harmony with the environment we live in, which is the planet Earth, the only home we've got. Having a smaller family is a positive choice we can make for future generations and it's really inspiring to see this discussion opening up, and people with the profile and voice of the Sussexes leading that conversation.
"Millennials and Gen-Zers are more switched on to the power of smaller families than generations before them ever were. This gives me immense hope for the future."
A 2017 study concluded that by far the single most effective measure an individual in the developed world could take to cut their carbon emissions over the long term would be to have one fewer child. Researchers from Lund University in Sweden suggested that this action could reduce emissions by as much as 20 times more than any other action that it evaluated, including plant-based diets, being car-free and reducing flying.

Emilijan Challenge - Move In of Tiana
Navigation Challenge Infos Maynard Appartments Story: Harry fast through > coming soon Harrison Rosenberg by SilverMinxie (gallery link) Tiana Knite by Aneebananee (gallery link - title image)
EN Arriving at her new home she at first had the urgent need to visit the toilet cause she was so excited to meet Emilijan every moment. Since she met him first, for applying for a tennent, she developed a bit of a crush of this tall, dark and handsome guy. But when she came out of the cabine whom does she met in this uncomfortable situation? Emilijan! 'Oh no, why does this always happen to me?’ she thought and felt so ashamed. Of course there is no serious reason to feel like that, but she thought about this reunion the whole day and it should have been perfect to make the best impression - and this was far from that. So she did what she did best and swapped into acting mode and tried her best to cover up this little (for her big) fault with her best charming attitude, this couldn’t be wrong, couldn’ it? Oh no, it could, she was bit overstated and childish and she noticed it. ‘Oh my dear, why does this guy make me feel so silly?’ she thought and Emilijans facial expression told her that he is very disturbed about her weired behavior. So the only thing she wanted now was to withdraw herself in her own 4 walls and she asked Jani to excuse her for the evening. Tanias appartment
EN Next morning she got up very early ...
EN ... and met Harry in the common rooms for breakfast and she immediatly had a good connection to him, it was as if she knew him for long.
EN After that she decided to do some fitness first to get her head free ...
EN but it took not long time when Jani entered the fitness room as well. They wished each other a good morning but that it was, unfortunatly.
EN Later she met Harry outside and asked him about Jani and if he is so reluctant all the time. Harry said:’ No he isn’t, but he needs a bit. He first watches before he opens up. But don’t be afraid, he is a cool and easy guy. Why do you fear about?’ ‘Oh,’ Tania said ‘it’s nothing but ... I really wanted to leave a good impression, but I think I did everything wrong. He is hot and ... you know?’ her cheeks flushed red a bit. Harry thoughtful answered ‘Yes, he is ...I’m going to relax a bit in the sweatbath now, see you later!’ and turned around thinking ‘Fantastic Harry, really fantastic, she is a cute and lovely girl and has an eye on Jani. Realizing this ist hurts, but it shouldn’t matter or?’ ...
EN .. only a short time later Tiana followed Harry in the sweatbath. ‘Is it ok for you to join in?’ she asked. Harry took a deep breath, been honest to himself it is not ok, but it’s not Tianas fault so he took all his confidence to wipe his thought away and admitted.
EN So Tina went aways to change closes and when she came back - surprise - Jani was in as well and Tiana was getting so nervous again but she joined in.
EN At the end the mood between them three got much more realxed and this is what they did. They had some easy smalltalk and things seem to get easier.
EN It was a long day. Tania cleaned up a bit after and went to her rooms, had a litle snack in her kitchen before she went to bed thnking about the day.
EN Lying in her bed she thought about the day at the end turned not so bad and she was glad about the two guys were so cool with her after their first bit fear of contact. Harry is an easy going guy and watching Jani with him showed that Jani can be an easy and funny guy as well. But she is not sure how to behave when meeting Jani next time alone. Thermite & Myla Ship Asks
Here’s what @simonxriley asked: All evens in each category for Myla and any of her ships you feel like talking about!
This is 2/3. Here is Maverick/Myla and Ace/Myla will be coming next.
--
[ Thermite x Myla ]
Pre-Relationship 2. What was their first impression of each other? Thermite found himself intrigued by Myla. He liked her calming voice, her relaxed character and he wouldn’t deny that her laugh brightened his day. He loved the fact she laughed at all his jokes, even the small horrible puns.
Myla immediately took an interest with Thermite. She found herself longing to hang out with him more. His sense of humour and his laid-back personality, all while being caring and completely understanding, it all just made Myla happy. When she dumped all her issues onto him and he didn’t judge her once during that, she knew he’d be a good and positive person in her life. Plus, she found him to be very hot.
4. Who felt romantic feelings first? Easily Myla. She had developed a crush on Thermite within the first month of her being in Rainbow. Unfortunately, it took her months to confess and to start something with Thermite.
6. If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think? Thermite would joke about the soulmate thing and shrug it off at first, although the thought would stay in the back of his mind. He’d still try to deny it when he didn’t have feelings for Myla. When he did find himself in love with Myla, he’d definitely start believing in the whole soulmates thing.
General 2. Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like? They didn’t have an official first date, but the closest thing was when they spent Easter together, eating chocolates and watching random movies.
4. Were they each other’s firsts (kiss, relationship, etc.)? For Thermite, no. He had a few other relationships before he started dating Myla. For Myla, Thermite was her first relationship and first time. 6. What’s their relationship with each other’s family? Thermite was easily accepted into Myla’s family. He easily became a kokum’s (grandma) boy and Myla’s kokum adores Thermite. She spoils him to the point where Myla often has to keep track of what her kokum is doing. Thermite and Kayden have become great friends and Kayden often encouraged Thermite to propose to Myla. Thermite’s dad seemingly love Myla and he approves of their relationship. While they do visit him on holidays, Thermite and Myla no longer have a strong relationship with his father. The deaths of his mother and sister have really affected Thermite and his dad, which created a strain on their relationship.
8. Who gets jealous easier? Thermite gets jealous easier, even if he doesn’t like to admit it. He knew Buck liked Myla so when he and Myla got together, he was a little wary of Buck. Myla found it sweet but always reassured him she loved him. Of course, after a while, the feeling died down and he eventually forgot about Buck’s old crush on Myla. However, he still gets jealous when men start talking to her flirtatious manner.
Love 2. What are their primary love languages? Thermite prefers physical touch and loves to cuddle and hug Myla. He’ll even hold her hand randomly, anything to give physical affection. Myla prefers quality time and loves his physical touches. Sometimes they’ll just cuddle and talk about their days.
4. What are their favourite things to do together? The two like to spend some time learning Ojibwe, well Thermite learns, Myla teaches. Outside of learning a language, the two will occasionally cuddle on their couch and binge-watch action or comedy movies and they’ll take turns picking movies. This’ll continue until one or both fall asleep. It makes for some sore backs, but the time together makes it worth it.
6. Who’s more protective? Thermite. He’s always been so concerned over her and hates to see her hurt, physically or emotionally. Of course, he’s always been this way but when the two became official, he showed it more to the point where Myla had to actually tell him to relax. He’s let up on the protective nature but that still doesn’t stop him from shielding her from any kind of harm. While Thermite isn’t the type to hold grudges, he will if the person has hurt Myla.
8. What are some songs that apply to their relationship, in-universe or otherwise? “Royalty” by Connor Maynard. I can’t really say much without spoiling some plot points for Tracing a Charge. But I also just find the song to be super sweet and I often listen to it to bring up the mood.
Domestic Life 2. What’s the wedding like? Who attends? Thermite was a little iffy on a big wedding, but it was Myla’s dream to have a big wedding. He decided that they’d have a medium-sized wedding, on the side of a forest to give Myla her dreams of a nature themed wedding. Their families obviously attended and loved the day. Some personal friends from their hometowns also attended as well. Ash, Castle, Pulse, Hibana, Frost & Harry also attended.
4. Do they have any pets? They have 2 dogs. Both are Border Collies and they’re named Miley and Angie.
6. Who kills the bugs in the house? Thermite does as Myla’s terrified of bugs. He doesn’t mind but he’ll sometimes tease her about the bugs he caught, which will always result in him sleeping on the couch.
8. Who’s more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning? It’s a tie between the two. The two enjoy cuddling in bed, especially in the mornings. Had they not have work, or kids, they probably would spend entire days in bed. But someone always has to leave the bed, which leaves the other dragging them back to bed after a few minutes.

Do you feel trapped in a broken economic model? A model that's trashing the living world and threatens the lives of our descendants? A model that excludes billions of people while making a handful unimaginably rich? That sorts us into winners and losers, and then blames the losers for their misfortune?
Welcome to neoliberalism! The zombie doctrine that never seems to die, however comprehensively it is discredited.
Now, you might have imagined that the financial crisis of 2008 would have led to the collapse of neoliberalism. After all, it exposed its central features – which were deregulating business and finance, tearing down public protections, throwing us into extreme competition with each other – as, well, just a little bit flawed.
And intellectually, it did collapse. But still, it dominates our lives.
Why? Well, I believe the answer is that we have not yet produced a new story with which to replace it.
Stories are the means by which we navigate the world. They allow us to interpret its complex and contradictory signals. When we want to make sense of something, the sense we seek is not scientific sense but narrative fidelity.
Does what we are hearing reflect the way that we expect humans and the world to behave? Does it hang together? Does it progress as a story should progress?
Now, we are creatures of narrative, and a string of facts and figures, however important facts and figures are – and, you know, I'm an empiricist, I believe in facts and figures, but – those facts and figures have no power to displace a persuasive story.
The only thing that can replace a story… is a story.
You cannot take away someone's story without giving them a new one.
And it's not just stories in general that we are attuned to, but particular narrative structures. There are a number of basic plots that we use again and again. And in politics there is one basic plot which turns out to be tremendously powerful, and I call this "the restoration story." It goes as follows:
Disorder afflicts the land, caused by powerful and nefarious forces working against the interests of humanity.
But the hero will revolt against this disorder, fight those powerful forces against the odds, overthrow them, and restore harmony to the land.
You've heard this story before. It's the Bible story. It's the "Harry Potter" story. It's the "Lord of the Rings" story. It's the "Narnia" story.
But it's also the story that has accompanied almost every political and religious transformation going back millennia.
In fact, we could go as far as to say that without a powerful new restoration story, a political and religious transformation might not be able to happen. It's that important.
After laissez-faire economics triggered the Great Depression, John Maynard Keynes sat down to write a new economics, and what he did was to tell a restoration story, and it went something like this:
Disorder afflicts the land! (Laughter) Caused by the powerful and nefarious forces of the economic elite, which have captured the world's wealth.
But the hero of the story, the enabling state, supported by working class and middle class people, will contest that disorder, will fight those powerful forces by redistributing wealth, and through spending public money on public goods will generate income and jobs, restoring harmony to the land.
Now like all good restoration stories, this one resonated across the political spectrum. Democrats and Republicans, labor and conservatives, left and right all became, broadly, Keynesian.
Then, when Keynesianism ran into trouble in the 1970s, the neoliberals, people like Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman, came forward with their new restoration story, and it went something like this – you'll never guess what's coming. (Laughter)
Disorder afflicts the land! Caused by the powerful and nefarious forces of the overmighty state, whose collectivizing tendencies crush freedom and individualism and opportunity.
But the hero of the story, the entrepreneur, will fight those powerful forces, roll back the state, and through creating wealth and opportunity, restore harmony to the land.
And that story also resonated across the political spectrum. Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and labor, they all became, broadly, neoliberal.
Opposite stories with an identical narrative structure.
Then, in 2008, the neoliberal story fell apart, and its opponents came forward with...
Nothing.
No new restoration story! The best they had to offer was a watered-down neoliberalism or a microwaved Keynesianism.
And that is why we're stuck. Without that new story, we are stuck with the old failed story that keeps on failing.
Despair is the state we fall into when our imagination fails. When we have no story that explains the present and describes the future, hope evaporates. Political failure is, at heart, a failure of imagination.
Without a restoration story that can tell us where we need to go, nothing is going to change, but with such a restoration story, almost everything can change.
The story we need to tell is a story which will appeal to as wide a range of people as possible, crossing political fault lines. It should resonate with deep needs and desires. It should be simple and intelligible, and it should be grounded in reality.
Now, I admit that all of this sounds like a bit of a tall order. But I believe that in Western nations, there is actually a story like this waiting to be told.
Over the past few years, there's been a fascinating convergence of findings in several different sciences, in psychology and anthropology and neuroscience and evolutionary biology, and they all tell us something pretty amazing: that human beings have got this massive capacity for altruism. Sure, we all have a bit of selfishness and greed inside us, but in most people, those are not our dominant values.
And we also turn out to be the supreme cooperators. We survived the African savannas, despite being weaker and slower than our predators and most of our prey, by an amazing ability to engage in mutual aid, and that urge to cooperate has been hardwired into our minds through natural selection.
These are the central, crucial facts about humankind: our amazing altruism and cooperation.
But something has gone horribly wrong. Disorder afflicts the land. (Laughter)
Our good nature has been thwarted by several forces, but I think the most powerful of them is the dominant political narrative of our times, which tells us that we should live in extreme individualism and competition with each other.
It pushes us to fight each other, to fear and mistrust each other. It atomizes society, it weakens the social bonds that make our lives worth living. And into that vacuum grow these violent, intolerant forces.
We are a society of altruists, but we are governed by psychopaths. (Applause)
But it doesn't have to be like this. It really doesn't, because we have this incredible capacity for togetherness and belonging, and by invoking that capacity, we can recover those amazing components of our humanity: our altruism and cooperation.
Where there is atomization, we can build a thriving civic life with a rich participatory culture. Where we find ourselves crushed between market and state, we can build an economics that respects both people and planet. And we can create this economics around that great neglected sphere, the commons.
The commons is neither market nor state, capitalism nor communism, but it consists of three main elements: a particular resource; a particular community that manages that resource; and the rules and negotiations the community develops to manage it.
Think of community broadband or community energy cooperatives or the shared land for growing fruit and vegetables that in Britain we call allotments.
A commons can't be sold, it can't be given away, and its benefits are shared equally among the members of the community.
Where we have been ignored and exploited, we can revive our politics. We can recover democracy from the people who have captured it. We can use new rules and methods of elections to ensure that financial power never trumps democratic power again. (Applause)
Representative democracy should be tempered by participatory democracy so that we can refine our political choices, and that choice should be exercised as much as possible at the local level. If something can be decided locally, it shouldn't be determined nationally.
And I call all this the politics of belonging.
Now, I think this has got the potential to appeal across quite a wide range of people, and the reason for this is that among the very few values that both left and right share are belonging and community. And we might mean slightly different things by them, but at least we start with some language in common.
In fact, you can see a lot of politics as being a search for belonging. Even fascists seek community, albeit a frighteningly homogenous community where everyone looks the same and wears the same uniform and chants the same slogans.
What we need to create is a community based on bridging networks, not bonding networks. Now, a bonding network brings together people from a homogenous group, whereas a bridging network brings together people from different groups. And my belief is that if we create sufficiently rich and vibrant bridging communities, we can thwart the urge for people to burrow into the security of a homogenous bonding community defending themselves against the Other.
So in summary, our new story could go something like this:
Disorder afflicts the land! (Laughter)
Caused by the powerful and nefarious forces of people who say there's no such thing as society, who tell us that our highest purpose in life is to fight like stray dogs over a dustbin.
But the heroes of the story, us, we'll revolt against this disorder. We will fight those nefarious forces by building rich, engaging, inclusive and generous communities, and, in doing so, we will restore harmony to the land. (Applause)
Now whether or not you feel this is the right story, I hope you'll agree that we need one. We need a new restoration story, which is going to guide us out of the mess we're in, which tells us why we're in the mess and tells us how to get out of that mess.
And that story, if we tell it right, will infect the minds of people across the political spectrum.
Our task is to tell the story that lights the path to a better world. Thank you. (Applause)

Noah's Ark on Broadway

LISTEN NOW (8 minutes):
Listen Now as Francis Douglas tells of when Noah's Ark was featured on New York City's Broadway stage.
PODCAST TRANSCRIPT:
Today on Celebrate the Bible:
NOAH’S ARK on BROADWAY in 1896
You are not likely to find anything about Noah's Ark on New York City's famous Broadway today … but, at one time, it was the "toast of the town".
Noah's Ark, and the great world-wide flood as recorded in Genesis, is perhaps one of the most easily identifiable events in all of the Bible. The most interesting aspect of this episode is not the illusion itself, but the fact that it attracted so many people from New York City's secular population: from every-day working families, to the City's upper crust … all were thrilled with the experience.

A few points of note:
Technical details of the illusion were featured in Scientific American magazine
The Olympia was the premiere entertainment showplace of the world
Biblical themes were very popular, with all NYC audiences at the Olympia
It was founded and built by famous Oscar Hammerstein
It was reported that audiences were left spellbound after each Noah’s Ark performance
It was so popular and well-received, that the highly respected science publication, Scientific American, devoted an entire page to this Biblically-themed entertainment attraction -- complete with stunning illustrations.
Let’s take a step-by-step look at the Noah’s Ark illusion. I will inter-space the steps throughout today’s presentation.
STEP ONE

Hammerstein's Olympia Theater and Music Hall was once celebrated as the foremost entertainment venue in the entire world.
Located at 44th and Broadway in New York City, it was only two blocks from what is known today as Times Square. The main theater held 2,800-seats. And the building took up an entire city block.
STEP TWO

The rooftop was just as famous as the theater and music hall. It had a 65-foot tall glass roof, and was illuminated with over 3,000 light bulbs. To provide electricity, there were four dynamos that generated 3,200 amps of power. These dynamos also powered a complete air circulation system, and pump, that brought refrigerated water from the basement to the rooftop area -- providing what was a very early version of air conditioning ... in 1896!

Not to be outdone by any other venue, the rooftop also had trees, rocks, and even a stream that eventually led to a 40-foot lake. There were swans, ducks, and even South American monkeys.
And, while you were enjoying all of this, you could walk around the perimeter of the roof, and take in views of Central Park and neighboring New Jersey.
At the time, the cost of admission for everything, including entertainment, was only 50-cents! However, keep in mind, with the rate of inflation from 1896 to 2025, that same fifty cent admission price would be equivalent to roughly $15 to $20 today.
STEP FOUR

The Scientific American publication was founded by inventor and publisher Rufus Porter in 1845. Contributors of note include Thomas Edison, Robert Goddard, Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein, and Linus Pauling -- just to name a few.
STEP FIVE: The SOLUTION

The answer to the filling of the Ark with water is a simple one … the water funnel on the top of the Ark is attached to a hose that runs down through the support beams, then empties under the stage. The water never fills the Ark in the first place.
Other than taking creative license with a few details (for instance, the real ark was never filled with water), it was a wonderful opportunity for audience members to experience one of the great Biblical events on the grand Broadway stage.
Perhaps one day we'll see a revival of the Noah's Ark Illusion, or a variation on the theme. In the meantime, I'm glad to have been able to bring it to you with this Celebrate the Bible 250 podcast.
So, until we meet again, and for celebratethebible250, this is Francis Douglas.
If you would like me to give a presentation and small exhibit to your church group, school, or organization, on the History of the Christian Holy Bible in America, I’ll place contact information below as the 2026 Semiquincentennial America 250 year approaches.
I will be available for Southern New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.

This book historically looks at early battles between the Colonial Rule of Australia, the aboriginal tribes and white settlers/convicts. The first chapter Army of Occupation obviously looks at the question of the 1st fleet landing and settlement antagonising the local aborigines. Twin Battles of Sydney Battle of Vinegar Hill Battle of Bathurst Battle of Pinjarra Battle of Eureka stockade Battle of Battle Mountain

An alternative view of Australian history. Through accounts of four clashes, this book demonstrates the realities of life on the Australian frontier and through a retelling of the stories of Vinegar Hill and Eureka reminds the reader of the central place of resistance in Australia's past.

Blood on the Wattle draws together most of the information about the massacres of Aboriginal people which has been recorded in books and journals. Blood on the Wattle draws together, in a single volume, most of the information about the massacres of Aboriginal people which has been recorded in books and journals. It also creates a broad-based level of awareness of the scale of the massacres of Aboriginal people so that this dimension of Australian history can become part of the Australian consciousness. About the Author Bruce Elder is an award-winning journalist and writer who has been involved in the writing of more than 50 books, including the Macquarie Dictionary and The A - Z of Who is Who in Australia's History. Large, bold and colourful, Indigenous Australian art has impressed itself on the contemporary imagination. But it is controversial, dividing the stakeholders from those who smell a scam. Whether the artists are victims or victors, there is no denying their impact in the media and on the art world and collectors worldwide. How did it become the most successful Indigenous art in the world? How did its artists escape the ethnographic and souvenir markets to become players in an art world from which they had been barred? Superbly illustrated, and rich in detail and critical analysis, this book provides the first full historical account of Indigenous Australian art and shows that there is much more to the art than large colourful canvasses. About the Author Ian McLean is Senior Research Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Wollongong and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia. His previous books include Double Desire: Transculturation and Indigenous Art (2014), How Aborigines Invented the Idea of Contemporary Art (2011) and White Aborigines: Identity Politics in Australian Art (2009).

Floating Life: Contemporary Aboriginal Fibre Art
Contributing authors include Diane Moon, Diana Wood Conroy, Anna Haebich, John Kean, Julie Ewington, Bruce McLean, Lynne Seear 160 pages paperback colour illustrations
'Floating Life' highlights the importance of fibre within Aboriginal culture, and the Gallery's unique collection of more than 300 fibre objects. Included are commissioned pieces by key artists as well as acquisitions from established and emerging talents. There are woven fibre pieces, three-dimensional works with connections to the objects, and paintings illustrating processes and stitches used.
Banumbirr (the Morning Star), water, and the notion of movement through time and place are major themes. Water defines pathways and points of connection in Aboriginal life and marks important creation sites associated with specific woven objects. Spirit figures, ceremonial poles, dance objects, body adornment and useful nets and traps — ranging from small and delicate to large-scale — reflect variations on tradition, whereas exciting contemporary explorations are embodied in the found materials used by Lorraine Connelly-Northey. An in-depth view of the work of artists such as Jonathan Jones, Gulumbu Yunupingu, Shirley MacNamara, Yvonne Koolmatrie, Lena Yarinkura and Alan Griffiths recognises their role in forging important new directions.

Selling Yarns 3: Weaving the nation's story was a four-day event that presented a conference, a market day, workshops, an exhibition and associated activities program, and launched the inaugural Indigenous Art Film program. As the premier national forum for Indigenous textile and fibre in the country it was supported by the Centenary of Canberra, drawing people to the nation's capital from across the country.
Thirty Indigenous communities and art centres and 134 artists from every state and territory in Australia converged in Canberra to participate in Selling Yarns 3: Weaving the nation's story. Indigenous artists and elders, and art administrators, came together and participated as speakers, workshop facilitators and market stall holders to share their stories, exchange their knowledge and skills, and to trade. They opened their hearts to each other and to other conference delegates and visitors. As Tim Growcott so eloquently stated post conference:
"An authentic spirit of reconciliation coursed strongly throughout the four days, with so many stories and examples of practical collaborations and life- changing projects. The conference was a recognition of the important and sensitive work being accomplished by like-minded creators, forging links with the living past and forming models for healing into the future."
The project was a huge success, inspiring artists and creating strategic alliances between Indigenous communities across Australia. There has been significant cross cultural engagement and inspiration with international Indigenous artists and culture which paves the way for lasting relationships with opportunities to develop further collaborations and joint projects. Establishing dialogue and sharing cross-cultural exchanges with international artists, curators and researchers has placed Australian Indigenous textile practice within the broader international arena.

Researchers Are Hatching a Low-Cost Coronavirus Vaccine A new vaccine for Covid-19 that is entering clinical trials in Brazil, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam could change how the world fights the pandemic. The vaccine, called NVD-HXP-S, is the first in clinical trials to use a new molecular design that is widely expected to create more potent antibodies than the current generation of vaccines. And the new vaccine could be far easier to make. Existing vaccines from companies like Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson must be produced in specialized factories using hard-to-acquire ingredients. In contrast, the new vaccine can be mass-produced in chicken eggs — the same eggs that produce billions of influenza vaccines every year in factories around the world. If NVD-HXP-S proves safe and effective, flu vaccine manufacturers could potentially produce well over a billion doses of it a year. Low- and middle-income countries currently struggling to obtain vaccines from wealthier countries may be able to make NVD-HXP-S for themselves or acquire it at low cost from neighbors. “That’s staggering — it would be a game-changer,” said Andrea Taylor, assistant director of the Duke Global Health Innovation Center. First, however, clinical trials must establish that NVD-HXP-S actually works in people. The first phase of clinical trials will conclude in July, and the final phase will take several months more. But experiments with vaccinated animals have raised hopes for the vaccine’s prospects. “It’s a home run for protection,” said Dr. Bruce Innes of the PATH Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access, which has coordinated the development of NVD-HXP-S. “I think it’s a world-class vaccine.” 2P to the rescue Vaccines work by acquainting the immune system with a virus well enough to prompt a defense against it. Some vaccines contain entire viruses that have been killed; others contain just a single protein from the virus. Still others contain genetic instructions that our cells can use to make the viral protein. Once exposed to a virus, or part of it, the immune system can learn to make antibodies that attack it. Immune cells can also learn to recognize infected cells and destroy them. In the case of the coronavirus, the best target for the immune system is the protein that covers its surface like a crown. The protein, known as spike, latches onto cells and then allows the virus to fuse to them. But simply injecting coronavirus spike proteins into people is not the best way to vaccinate them. That’s because spike proteins sometimes assume the wrong shape, and prompt the immune system to make the wrong antibodies. This insight emerged long before the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2015, another coronavirus appeared, causing a deadly form of pneumonia called MERS. Jason McLellan, a structural biologist then at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and his colleagues set out to make a vaccine against it. They wanted to use the spike protein as a target. But they had to reckon with the fact that the spike protein is a shape-shifter. As the protein prepares to fuse to a cell, it contorts from a tulip-like shape into something more akin to a javelin. Scientists call these two shapes the prefusion and postfusion forms of the spike. Antibodies against the prefusion shape work powerfully against the coronavirus, but postfusion antibodies don’t stop it. Dr. McLellan and his colleagues used standard techniques to make a MERS vaccine but ended up with a lot of postfusion spikes, useless for their purposes. Then they discovered a way to keep the protein locked in a tulip-like prefusion shape. All they had to do was change two of more than 1,000 building blocks in the protein into a compound called proline. The resulting spike — called 2P, for the two new proline molecules it contained — was far more likely to assume the desired tulip shape. The researchers injected the 2P spikes into mice and found that the animals could easily fight off infections of the MERS coronavirus. The team filed a patent for its modified spike, but the world took little notice of the invention. MERS, although deadly, is not very contagious and proved to be a relatively minor threat; fewer than 1,000 people have died of MERS since it first emerged in humans. But in late 2019 a new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, emerged and began ravaging the world. Dr. McLellan and his colleagues swung into action, designing a 2P spike unique to SARS-CoV-2. In a matter of days, Moderna used that information to design a vaccine for Covid-19; it contained a genetic molecule called RNA with the instructions for making the 2P spike. Other companies soon followed suit, adopting 2P spikes for their own vaccine designs and starting clinical trials. All three of the vaccines that have been authorized so far in the United States — from Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech — use the 2P spike. Other vaccine makers are using it as well. Novavax has had strong results with the 2P spike in clinical trials and is expected to apply to the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization in the next few weeks. Sanofi is also testing a 2P spike vaccine and expects to finish clinical trials later this year. Two prolines are good; six are better Dr. McLellan’s ability to find lifesaving clues in the structure of proteins has earned him deep admiration in the vaccine world. “This guy is a genius,” said Harry Kleanthous, a senior program officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. “He should be proud of this huge thing he’s done for humanity.” Updated April 5, 2021, 4:37 a.m. ET But once Dr. McLellan and his colleagues handed off the 2P spike to vaccine makers, he turned back to the protein for a closer look. If swapping just two prolines improved a vaccine, surely additional tweaks could improve it even more. “It made sense to try to have a better vaccine,” said Dr. McLellan, who is now an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin. In March, he joined forces with two fellow University of Texas biologists, Ilya Finkelstein and Jennifer Maynard. Their three labs created 100 new spikes, each with an altered building block. With funding from the Gates Foundation, they tested each one and then combined the promising changes in new spikes. Eventually, they created a single protein that met their aspirations. The winner contained the two prolines in the 2P spike, plus four additional prolines found elsewhere in the protein. Dr. McLellan called the new spike HexaPro, in honor of its total of six prolines. The structure of HexaPro was even more stable than 2P, the team found. It was also resilient, better able to withstand heat and damaging chemicals. Dr. McLellan hoped that its rugged design would make it potent in a vaccine. Dr. McLellan also hoped that HexaPro-based vaccines would reach more of the world — especially low- and middle-income countries, which so far have received only a fraction of the total distribution of first-wave vaccines. “The share of the vaccines they’ve received so far is terrible,” Dr. McLellan said. To that end, the University of Texas set up a licensing arrangement for HexaPro that allows companies and labs in 80 low- and middle-income countries to use the protein in their vaccines without paying royalties. Meanwhile, Dr. Innes and his colleagues at PATH were looking for a way to increase the production of Covid-19 vaccines. They wanted a vaccine that less wealthy nations could make on their own. With a little help from eggs The first wave of authorized Covid-19 vaccines require specialized, costly ingredients to make. Moderna’s RNA-based vaccine, for instance, needs genetic building blocks called nucleotides, as well as a custom-made fatty acid to build a bubble around them. Those ingredients must be assembled into vaccines in purpose-built factories. The way influenza vaccines are made is a study in contrast. Many countries have huge factories for making cheap flu shots, with influenza viruses injected into chicken eggs. The eggs produce an abundance of new copies of the viruses. Factory workers then extract the viruses, weaken or kill them and then put them into vaccines. The PATH team wondered if scientists could make a Covid-19 vaccine that could be grown cheaply in chicken eggs. That way, the same factories that make flu shots could make Covid-19 shots as well. In New York, a team of scientists at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai knew how to make just such a vaccine, using a bird virus called Newcastle disease virus that is harmless in humans. For years, scientists had been experimenting with Newcastle disease virus to create vaccines for a range of diseases. To develop an Ebola vaccine, for example, researchers added an Ebola gene to the Newcastle disease virus’s own set of genes. The scientists then inserted the engineered virus into chicken eggs. Because it is a bird virus, it multiplied quickly in the eggs. The researchers ended up with Newcastle disease viruses coated with Ebola proteins. At Mount Sinai, the researchers set out to do the same thing, using coronavirus spike proteins instead of Ebola proteins. When they learned about Dr. McLellan’s new HexaPro version, they added that to the Newcastle disease viruses. The viruses bristled with spike proteins, many of which had the desired prefusion shape. In a nod to both the Newcastle disease virus and the HexaPro spike, they called it NDV-HXP-S. PATH arranged for thousands of doses of NDV-HXP-S to be produced in a Vietnamese factory that normally makes influenza vaccines in chicken eggs. In October, the factory sent the vaccines to New York to be tested. The Mount Sinai researchers found that NDV-HXP-S conferred powerful protection in mice and hamsters. “I can honestly say I can protect every hamster, every mouse in the world against SARS-CoV-2,” Dr. Peter Palese, the leader of the research, said. “But the jury’s still out about what it does in humans.” The potency of the vaccine brought an extra benefit: The researchers needed fewer viruses for an effective dose. A single egg may yield five to 10 doses of NDV-HXP-S, compared to one or two doses of influenza vaccines. “We are very excited about this, because we think it’s a way of making a cheap vaccine,” Dr. Palese said. PATH then connected the Mount Sinai team with influenza vaccine makers. On March 15, Vietnam’s Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals announced the start of a clinical trial of NDV-HXP-S. A week later, Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organization followed suit. On March 26, Brazil’s Butantan Institute said it would ask for authorization to begin its own clinical trials of NDV-HXP-S. Meanwhile, the Mount Sinai team has also licensed the vaccine to the Mexican vaccine maker Avi-Mex as an intranasal spray. The company will start clinical trials to see if the vaccine is even more potent in that form. To the nations involved, the prospect of making the vaccines entirely on their own was appealing. “This vaccine production is produced by Thai people for Thai people,” Thailand’s health minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, said at the announcement in Bangkok. In Brazil, the Butantan Institute trumpeted its version of NDV-HXP-S as “the Brazilian vaccine,” one that would be “produced entirely in Brazil, without depending on imports.” Ms. Taylor, of the Duke Global Health Innovation Center, was sympathetic. “I could understand why that would really be such an attractive prospect,” she said. “They’ve been at the mercy of global supply chains.” Madhavi Sunder, an expert on intellectual property at Georgetown Law School, cautioned that NDV-HXP-S would not immediately help countries like Brazil as they grappled with the current wave of Covid-19 infections. “We’re not talking 16 billion doses in 2020,” she said. Instead, the strategy will be important for long-term vaccine production — not just for Covid-19 but for other pandemics that may come in the future. “It sounds super promising,” she said. In the meantime, Dr. McLellan has returned to the molecular drawing board to try to make a third version of their spike that is even better than HexaPro. “There’s really no end to this process,” he said. “The number of permutations is almost infinite. At some point, you’d have to say, ‘This is the next generation.’” Source link Orbem News #coronavirus #Hatching #lowcost #Researchers #Vaccine
