I love atolla jellies. Look at this little guy swim
#The atolla wyvellei has an atrophied tentacle#I haven't seen concrete information about what it does but answers have ranged from#Passive food catching to catching.... Mates.#It still has nematocysts on them so I wonder what they're for...#The atolla reynoldsi does not have this atrophied tentacle so#Fun#Theres also the atolla chuni but idk what it's all about#Anyways it's heralded as looking like some weird space ship or whatever but tbh#I like the idea of it being a sea flower#MBARI (I think) referred to it as a sea daisy#And I like that interpretation more#Its so pretty#There hasn't been any documentation on how painful atolla stings are but considering people got a lot of specimens to the surface...-#-surely they can't be that bad right?#I mean they don't eat vertebrates like Box jellies so I can't imagine they have strong venom#Maybe someone should get on that#mun rambles#jellyfish#Did a whole lot of jellyfish reading last night about the atolla jelly#It was nice.
