Ooh! I should talk about here as the last time I explained some of this it was buried within the spoiler section of my NSH's post XD

My Iterators are horrifying bio-mechanical flesh computers! :D

Their structures normally consume the bacteria within the water that they drink. Meaning that their puppets have no reason to have a mouth for eating. Their voice is also made by a speaker-like organ, so again, no reason for a throat.

In addition to this, most of their brain-matter is actually within the rest of their structure. So simply cutting off a puppet would leave it brain-dead and slowly starving to death. Not to mention bleeding all over the place.

Five Pebbles' puppet was consumed by one of his rot cysts. As they were created while Pebbles was trying to design a creature to re-write his own genetic code, it was attempting to, and accomplished this goal. During Wilson's many, many, tries to finally get rid of this particular cyst. It ate him over and over and over an- as well as whatever other creature it got ahold of, slowly contaminating it with the genetic code of whatever it consumed. When it finally reached Pebbles' puppet, it re-wrote him with that messed up code. This is what let him get off string, luckily with most of his mind intact. Although, since there's no way that an Iterator's full memory could fit inside a brain that much smaller, he can't remember most of that shit anymore. (You ask him how a pearl works and dies inside when he doesn't remember this basic-ass information :)

He also gets the bonus of being LOUD AS FUCK when he wants to be as speaking with both his original voice box as well as the more animal-like one he gained effectively doubles the volume of his voice.

Looks to the Moon is not off string because not only was being re-written/consumed by a rot cyst extremely fucking painful, but it's too much of a risk to try something like this again in hopes of the same thing happening.

NSH.... NSH is in a bit of a pickle, if you haven't noticed already. He's trying to solve a, problem. And part of solving that problem was stealingborrowing the genetic code of fellow NSH @no-significant-askblog from when he was M!A ed into a lizard. So his puppet actually has a mouth now. (If you haven't guessed what he's trying to do yet this post might make it really obvious XD

I also have some.... other things, that I can't talk about yet. As this blog has a timeline I'm trying to follow (gotta live that fanfiction dream i will never write out somehow lol) but I can promise, more "horrifying bio-mechanical flesh computer" nonsense is to come.

Hey guys i have a question how do your offstring iterators even eat?? If they are even capable of eating? Do they have mouths?absorb energy? Have some kind of a sunction tube to eat?

Sliver of Straw time!

No lore for her at the moment, she's not too present in my aus. Despite her not being dead in two of them XD

Making her poncho fit with all the arm poses I have for these guys was a little tedious, but I like how it came out :D

Her antennae are also these sorta almond shapes that I think I did well on :P

Also..... I have No Significant Harassment done, I'm just waiting for the perfect moment, since he's getting a lore post >:]

Five Rotten Pebbles ref time yay!

So, I realised I probably had enough already existing resources to make a good reference post. Though, I got stuck using the pico8 color pallete for the video there.

✨Notable Features✨

Fluffy ears/balding old man hairline - Due to biological contamination from the creatures the rot cyst ate before his puppet, mostly Wilson, he is now slightly fluffy. He is very annoyed by this fact, do not point it out, do not pet- "Do and call him and 'Ear-terator' >:]"

"Mascara lines" - You know that one graffiti graphic where Pebbles looks like he has bleeding mascara? That. You don't come out looking your best after being eaten alive by a rot cyst.

Outfit - After the rot dug through his chest it was easier just to wear his robes backwards.

Feets - Feets, they're digitigrade and have two clawed toes. He might be taller if he stood up straight too.

Handhandhandhand - He can use every rotten arm of his like a hand, but they only have two clawed fingers and don't have any thumbs. You also won't get infected by rot if you touch him, or if he bites you. Normally he just rests them on his sides and shoulders.

Rotten arms cont* - They're in there. Like, it would fucking hurt and he might bleed to death if you tried to rip them out. After all, they're the corrupted remains of his umbilical arm.

Glowy - His claws and internals are a bright blue, and if you caught sight of him in a dark room, they, along with his eyes and some spots on his ears, would glow slightly.

He also likes to stand up on his rotten arms to scare random creatures he doesn't like. Scavs.

Nom bite chomp - Iterators in this world cannot leave their cans for three main reasons. First, the barrier of genome modification. Second, puppets do not contain enough brain matter to remain sentient when disconnected. And third, the puppet would soon starve to death, as it is incapable of eating. Pebbles, luckily, was granted the solution to these problems in the form of being eaten alive by one of his own rot cysts, yay! Unfortunately, he now has to eat lizards and other random garbage to survive. Someone please get him a kitchen. He does not need to move his mouth to speak, but his voice gets louder when he does, which is ideal for yelling at things. His teeth are black and needle-like, so I would not recommend daring him to bite you.

Other bits n bobs - He's completely disconnected from his systems. No just opening gates, no connecting directly to overseers, or to the communication arrays. He must suffer. Expect to find him struggling to get an overseer to connect every time he needs to send a message. At least he can still read pearls.

A corpse tumbles down the structure...

She has lore now...... here's my last SOS post

Sliver of Straw was stuck, she needed a new perspective, maybe even literally....

and so she found herself a method for her puppet to wander her can. Seeing the outdoors with her own eyes was nothing short of an enlightening experience, as a small, green slugcat, cut it all too short. Sending out a panicked affirmation broadcast as a literal "SOS," and warning to other Iterators.

Enraged by never being able to experience all that the world had to offer her, just when she had started to see it, she became an echo, wandering out into the wilderness in search of the creature that did this to her. Eventually, she finds Five Pebbles, just crawling out of his own can. Feeling his determination towards his new goal, she inverts his Karma into Volition.

Feeling a spark of hope from seeing Pebbles' newfound will to live, even in his suboptimal condition, she goes back to her own can, finding her discarded and overgrown puppet so she can possess her own corpse in order to try it over again. Although, still searching to destroy that green slugcat.

Her outfit has been torn, and had its colors faded by the sun.

Various moss and grasses have taken root in her scalp, and it's a lot easier to clear plants out of clothes, than out of flesh....

And well, there are consequences for being a violent echo haunting your own dead body, some even.... self-inflicted.

And sometimes, things just work out in your favor.....

Oh yeah, NSH Time.

I've been holding this post back for like a week😅

I absolutely love how NSH came out and I think he's currently my favourite rain world model that I've done! (Sorry Pebbles, I'm going to upgrade you later anyway :]

I also made his scarf easily removable so you can see how the stripes aren't just on his head! The stripes and his irises also glow, but a bit brighter than the areas on Five Rotten Pebbles.

His antennae are pretty similar to how I did Sliver's, especially considering I did his first! XD They're separated from his head a bit.

Also if you've noticed in my art that his eyes are the exact same as in the model here, that's because they are! I tried finding a way to draw them how I usually might, but I just couldn't get the same vibe! So I said, "Fuck it!" and I've been drawing over his model ever since XD

NSH is also who I used to make the "umbilical arm" model! So if you saw those posts, that's why the textures are all messed up!

And here it is in all it's glory!

It's mostly made of ball joints with a flexible joint attached to the back. The last segment also twists just like your forearm bones!

If you don't want to know why NSH is acting strange on my blog yet, read no further!

(there's also some downpour spoilers, and some other disturbing things)

*slaps top of can* This bad boy can fit so much fucking insanity in him. (cw: self-harm yeah you heard me)

If you haven't figured it out already (I did drop hints :) NSH's structure is damaged! His legs are giving out because a group of scavengers thought it would be funny to transport all of their explosives at once.

So he's in a bit of a pickle!

This is when Looks to the Moon and Five Pebbles' communication tower is repaired! During their first conversation in a very long time, NSH finds out about good ol' Hunter long legs, and is rightfully distraught! He feels like a total failure, that he wasn't experienced enough to properly create his messenger.

That's what this whole post was about!

But, experience is something that can be gained.

NSH figured if Five Pebbles was able to leave his can, then he should be able to as well, but that requires solving the three problems I mentioned in the Five Rotten Pebbles post:

The self-genome modification barrier,

A general lack of puppet central brain matter, and

No material processing within the puppet.

I'll talk about my umbilical lore for this AU here since it's relevant.

Either the "cord" or the "arm" can be disconnected, but not both. This is for ease of repair by administrators. Disconnecting them both would leave the unfortunate Iterator fully functional. Although, they would be blind in the visible spectrum (apart from overseers), unable to speak directly to someone in their chamber, and would otherwise have their workflow be severely impaired. They would effectively be trapped in their own head.

NSH realised that even if the barriers existed, they could still have the intentions, to break them. So what would happen, if he broke one? Not by writing it out of his system, Five Pebbles already proved how risky that method was, but instead by setting his actions in motion faster than any barrier could stop them? This was something to test, and wasn't that what Iterators were built to do anyway?

Umbilicals can only be disconnected by administrators, but what if he were to do it anyway? He needed to leave his can after all, it wouldn't be much of a loss if he was stuck on the floor of his chamber or floating aimlessly in zero gravity for a while.....

So what if he just ran fast enough to rip himself off?

What if he moved his arm back at the last second, could he gain enough inertia to pull it out of his back? Even if it took a few tries?

What other choices does he have? Perfect Five Pebbles' method until he collapses and continue even then? He had time, but not enough for that, and The Hunter certainly did not have any time for waiting around. NSH had to fix his mistake, he had to.

So this bastard goes and does exactly that, and short-circuits his entire system.

Not just breaking the umbilical maintenance barrier, but every other one in the process.

And it all hurts like hell.

But that's the first problem solved, and now he can help keep himself afloat longer. So that now, he can figure out how to solve the other two problems with precision.

Of course, the others won't like any of these plans, but, after what Five Pebbles did, they wouldn't dare disturb him if he stopped responding, right?

And maybe, he could even hijack their communications array, to look for help.
