🎼🎹 Pondering Musical Lineage on the Queen’s Birthday 👑🍰

I love time travel AUs okay
So, while attempting to write the ending to my tbobf s01e05 coda this evening, I had a mini-spiral over on Twitter that could only happen to creators who over-think things while allowing their muses to occupy too much brain space.
In good news, I spiral and buoy back up quickly. Thank you to those who interjected with logic. 💛
In better news, this spawned a pazdin fic outline for a story I will probably never write. I would like to think I could, but I haven’t been able to complete a project like this since 2011 and I’m tired of ideas languishing in my google docs, so I'm sharing here in case it will serve any of you. I may surprise myself, but until then I’ll not be greedy.
Din wakes up unknowingly 5 years in the future:
The Armourer is dead after sacrificing herself aiding Din’s effort to renew himself in the living waters of Mandalore; Din infamously blamed himself and was wracked by guilt which his friends have attempted to help him process over the last few years.
Din is Mand’Alor on Mandalore with a council of advisors who represent different aspects and perspectives of Mandalorian culture:
Bo-Katan Kryze, but their relationship is rocky (mostly reconciled after a confrontation with the Armourer during Din’s renewal, and weight of her loss, brought them into stead as allies); she is still accompanied by her Nite Owls
Boba Fett, who attends remotely from Tatooine, which is a source of friction with Bo-Katan much to his delight
Fenn Rau, one of the few surviving elder Mandalorians who returned to serve after word of Din’s assumption of the Darksaber spread
Din and Paz are together but not bonded, and Paz is insecure in the knowledge Din’s friends warned them apart; Bo-Katan regularly throws cautionary barbs at him in reference to his father.
Din and Paz are raising a 4yo foundling together.
Grogu is formally Din’s foundling but stays with Luke for his training, visiting regularly.
At the time of the story’s beginning:
Grogu is due to visit soon as part of the New Republic’s envoy to officially establish a treaty with Mandalore.
Mandalore is coming up to the anniversary of the Armourer’s death and people are tiptoeing around Din, much to his aggravation, treating him like glass.
Paz is planning to ask Din to bond with him (Din only remembers present Paz as brash and callous, and is very bewildered by this softer, more considerate man, while Paz is continuously hurt by Din’s disregard of him); matters are complicated with recent rumours their supposed foundling is Paz’s born child with someone else (I really want to write the story just for this drama).
Din’s consciousness drifts between our canon and this alternate reality. He thinks he’s in a fever dream but realises by the story’s end that it’s a vision of a possible future being experienced as present day Grogu attempts to heal him during his renewal in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore.
Dramatic question: Allying with the New Republic might shackle Mandalore with sanctions it’s unprepared for while the shattered community is still rebuilding itself. How does Din choose which parts of himself, and his culture, to concede?
(several of these points and that dramatic question could be massaged further so it’s resonant with everyone bc the journey of culture and identity is universal and ongoing, but this is what I came up with in an hour)
(I just needed to exorcise my pazdin angst ok)
(I also want to watch Din struggle through blended online/in-person zoom mtgs)
