Hello any technologically inclined mutual. My computer mutual. What do I do if a game says I need to update my graphics drivers but Windows doesn’t offer any updates. Game opens and plays on Home Screen for a bit, then crashes and says the driver needs an update. worried I may have asked computer to bite off more than it can chew but I’m not enough of a computerhead for this
#for reference the processor is AMD A12-9800#nothing funky with it as far as I can tell usuall driver r7 graphics and all#minimum specs for the game are AMD FX-8350#which seeing as it’s 2012 and mines 2017 I was hoping meant I clear minimum specs BUT#again this is not my wheelhouse#despite having a solid bit of computer knowledge specs is where my head goes guh huh#and unfortunately#I’m not used to updating these drivers manually either#whenever I get these kind of errors I never figure out how to fix them or it’s actually incompatible#I think the last driver update was 2023. one moment#oh fuck ok. last configured 2023#also when it first started#according to device manager#driver date: 04/21/2009#seems VERY dusty#Driver Version: 10.0.1.19041.2728#I downloaded the AMD software installer but it is no use just sends me back to the webpage and tells me to fight for myself#is VII the same graphics driver?#THERE ARE TOO MANY NAMES FOR THESE FUCKERS#anyway if a computer mutual comes to my aid u will have my heart tysm#sorry if I sound really dumb TT

I should probably stop using the dying 10 year old laptop to do all my digital painting on because I post a drawing like "OK good enough" and then look at it again later on a better monitor and am like What the FUCK happened
#The drawing I just posted was much more neon pink and less bisexual flag colors. Also a lot of the shadow it turns out is dark blue#and not the intended black. Oh well#Made some minor adjustments but it is what it is#The thing is like I'm too lazy to go through all the effort of installing the tablet driver and drawing software on my newer#laptop so it's just like. I got the first one for free and it's still chugging might as well use it until it is literally nonfunctional

ipads are legitimately a great option at this point for drawing tablets and it infuriates me to no end that apple isn't completely pivoting to this market. Imagining an 18" ipad that can actually connect to a computer or that can run macOS apps while still having an enjoyable UX using the apple pencil for navigating (which is VERY POSSIBLE) has me losing my mind.
#apple bad etc but like all tech companies bad and apple has the distinct advantage of generally providing a really satisfying and easy UX#while also having the most satisfyingly designed hardware#they had a software called sidecar where you can use your ipad as a second monitor for your mac#and it's a fucking incredible concept but unfortunately it doesn't run very well#and they haven't really tuned the ipad to interact well with macOS apps#but like THEY COULD EASILY#and probably could capture a huger percentage of the digital arts market than they already have#because listen. Wacom. Makes ok stuff but dealing with the DRIVERS#And like an ipad basically is apple's drawing tablet line at this point#like no matter how much they try to be like ohhh its for everything#its best uses are visual arts and roblox and like. Theyre obviously marketing towards the artists with the ipad pro#and theres this whole identity crisis the ipad has#where apple intentionally kneecaps it in order to keep the divide between iPad and macbook discrete#But i feel like they just need to really play into the ipad as drawing tablet/accessory to mac

ppl saying that a downside to linux is the lack of access to a lot of native software has never resonated with me bc ive only experienced searching for windows alternatives to linux programs i use and discovering that windows devs (as in ppl who write windows software not ppl who write the windows os specifically) literally just have neglected to write software for some things i would have thunk were pretty essential....... i guess ppl are talking about video games and stuff in which case fair enough im not a massive Gamer these days although I do get surprised about how much of my steam library has a native linux version these days. and there's always wine
#ig it could also apply for some specialist software like for art or music or whatever idk much about those#I never got my wacom tablet's pressure sensitivity to work on linux but I never really tried#I just tried plugging it in once and looking for drivers once and never touched it again lol

i feel like i'm losing my mind my laptop does this really annoying thing where it automatically adjusts contrast based on whether what's on the screen is dark/light and i hate it SO MUCH but every time i try to follow a guide to turn it off the option it tells me to just isn't there
