Fall 2023: Our 2nd India Trip!

Heh. So here I go, attempting to provide a synopsis of everything since my last post, which was nearly a year ago. We left off in approx Oct-Nov 2023 with Navaratri. So I’ll keep going with Thanksgiving. Our family had planned a long-overdue trip to India over the winter break, which meant we wouldn’t be home for Christmas. So we decided to celebrate…Thanksgivingmas in 2023. So turkey, stuffing, cornbread and green beans, along with Xmas PJ’s, a decorated tree, Christmas carols, and presents. It was honestly awesome. Bonus - we had homemade sushi for a few dinners after Thanksgivingmas, thanks to the sushi-making kit I was gifted!

Soon enough, December was upon us, and we were jetting of to India. Of note, it was our first trip to India as a family of four, without grandparental tourguides or support. I planned our entire ground travel and tour plan myself! We would be doing three days in Bangalore to see family and shop, then a road trip in Karnataka for historical sightseeing, followed by a few days in Ahmedabad to see Dr. Spouse’s side of the family and sightsee a little. Our first stop was Bangalore….

…then a few days in and around Mysore….

…then an exciting visit to the Dubare Elephant Camp.

The transit back to Bangalore, then onward to Ahmedabad, gave us opportunities to reflect on the massive amount of development (and multinational corporate presence) in India since our last visit.

We enjoyed sightseeing in Ahmedabad, like at the 15th century Sidi Sayyed Mosque, as well as visiting with family and reminiscing on family now in the hereafter - here, Vev recreates a beloved pic of his great grandmother (whom he’s never met). The family we did see in person took us out to many delicious restaurants and also fed us home cooking.

We also saw other famed Ahmedabad sites.

Two weeks flew by, and it was soon time to return home to the U.S., and truly kick off 2024!
