people who get all up in arms about what’s “problematic” to ship in warrior cats is getting to me. it feels so performative.

someone asked if it’s problematic to ship brightheart and swiftpaw. do you even know how long that’s been a ship? yeah okay they’re cousins EVERYONE. IS. COUSINS.

it’s a retcon anyway. just like. what.

and the age gap discourse, like okay brackenfur was a warrior when sorreltail was a kit. they’re literally a year apart, two at the most. he wasn’t her mentor, he was just Some Guy. if you can’t mate outside your clan and you can’t get with your Literal Littermates and there’s more than six moons of age gap….it’s just gonna happen. they all live in the same camp, they’re gonna know each other.

that said, i think it’s completely fine to try to fix those issues in your own rewrite/au. people who do that can come up with some really interesting stuff and i like watching them work. i broke up dustfern in my rewrite! but i left swiftpaw and brightheart alone (and shipped them still) bc….i do not care, personally.

but it feels very performative to me to try to apply human relationship standards to the cats, and also to jump on anyone who ships any related characters, because they’re ALL related and most people don’t have the family tree memorized for when they need to check if it’s okay to ship Very Canon Ship cinderheart and lionblaze!

(cinderheart is frostfur’s granddaughter and frostfur’s sister is brindleface, who is sandstorm’s mom, and as we all know sandstorm is lionblaze’s grandmother.)

(ditto, of course, cinderholly as a very popular fan ship.)

and if you are someone well-meaning but overly concerned with this….babe, it’s not worth it. trust me. at this point ivypool and fernsong are related on both sides of each of their families and there’s literally no way for the erins to fix it unless they kill off 3/4 of the clans, mostly thunderclan, and replace them with outsiders.

also it’s fiction anyway and it literally does not matter if you want to ship cat incest on purpose no one can stop you and you will not hurt anyone go and be free.

The number is the relation of moons in comparison to the birth of Firestar. For instance, Cinderpelt is 7 moons younger than Firestar, changed to be born a moon after he joins ThunderClan.

Some cats have notes of their planned mentor. For instance the four starting Thunder apprentices (Fire, Sand, Gray, Dust) all receive the major four litter (Cinder, Bright, Bracken, Thorn).

personally in my rewrite ferncloud and dustpelt are in a qpr and they just have a close familial relationship. i also retconned brindleface and frostfur being related to dust and raven and made brindleface and frostfur adopted kits (i'm not sure who their parents are; maybe kittypets or something?). because i like the idea of dustfern, their dynamic's cute... but it's ruined by the whole incest and pedophilia/age gap part of it. -💗
