A: People of Lots of Letters. Technically, a meta server. Realistically, a meme factory. Currently a few hundred members strong, not everyone in the server needs to be a meta author in the technical sense, as much as someone who enjoys conversations designed to break apart and enjoy the text in a meaningful level. Individuals using the polol tag adhere to a general code of conduct in dictionary and term usage so as to be able to hold fruitful conversations between each other and give followers a meaningful, stable compendium of information to follow.

Not all members will have perfectly aligned ideas, but as many study the same confirmed source texts and work in matching terms and shared resources on tools like AV Media Study, there will often be a conjoined thread between the content. On the other hand, we just may start yelling about pelicans and seem randomly deranged, so you know. Come for the meta, stay for the memes.

Q: Are your asks open?

A: Yes we worship this thing called the dictionary. Or sometimes swedish dumplings. Maybe pelicans. Or fandom’s just high, I dunno, take your pick. (No. The answer is no, but the memes out of it are delicious.) For what it’s worth, the server is themed after the Men of Letters, which itself is based on hermetic lodges in the canon. We can even give you meta about that! So sometimes we joke around and theme our things after related Occult Orders, but I swear you don’t have to sign a blood pact to join and there is no hypnosis involved (~ you will eat pierogi, you will eat pierogi, you will ~ )

Q: Well then, can I join?

A: Nyes. POLOL used to be completely open doors, but due to fandom severity has become slightly more closed, because like you, we like having our happy spaces! Generally, what it takes to actually join the server is to be engaged with our content or the blogs of active members that can refer you. Basically, we don’t want you here if you’re gonna be a dick breaking up our flow. If you’re noticed to just be a cool person, whether we actively talk to you or not, we may send you an invite. Or, maybe just like, message one of the highly active members, even if you also don’t talk to them a lot. People tend to notice people that are active in their blog orbit. If you’re the kind of person constantly posting things opposite of the spirit of the server or wander up with an empty blog, you’re probably gonna get denied, but generally, like? Yes? Hit us up, we’ll talk.

Q: How many admins are on this account?

Q: Do I have to be part of the server to like, use the hashtag or post meta?

A: I mean, no, not really. If we do see a large sum of people starting to use the tag for content contradictory to the actual intent (things that do not use the proper structure, definitions, etc), we may ask you to stop. On the other hand, if you post some crack that feels up our alley and tag it, we’ll probably reblog it whether you’re in the server or not (and may end up with that invite link mentioned above.)

Q: Does your blog have like, a masterpost of content?

A: Not yet, that’ll probably eventually come, but we’re going to try to start with a fairly solid tagging system to begin, including by tumblr url of member, episode, character or pairing, and more.

Wait, I’m confused. What countries actually exist in EE and what one’s don’t? I’m genuinely curious.

{Alright, so. In the Epithet: Erased FAQ, Jello states that the only countries that exist in EE are as follows: Taiga, Deepwood, Desert, Seaside, Ocean, and a supposed mythical island country called Australia.

However, in the show itself, because of an old Anime Campaign joke, Percy uses a Canadian Dollar, and states “I do not think... I have ever been to Canada!” implying that Canada must also exist in some way, shape, or form. So that already shatters Jello’s official statement.

Now, in the fandom, we’ve had a long-running joke about Zora and the song “Country Roads” because of course we do— but once someone pointed out that “West Virginia” (which is in the lyrics of the song) shouldn’t exist either, THAT became another “mythical country” gag.

THEN, in a recent stream, Jello talked about how the voice actors had a running joke about Percy being racist towards Italians for no apparent reason. I thought this was hilarious, but ALSO noted that Italy is YET ANOTHER place which shouldn’t be in the EE world by Jello’s own words— hence my crack post of an annoyed Percy stating “Italy doesn’t even exist.”

After that, anons started referencing countless other states and countries to carry on the “Italy” joke, at one point even stating “planet earth” doesn’t exist and Percy agreeing with mild confusion because she hasn’t even heard of planet earth, BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T LIVE ON PLANET EARTH.}

{TL;DR, it’s like the “why is the Toy Store open until 11:00″ question. There is no concrete answer that fits with canon. It’s a comedy show with a soft magic system and flexible worldbuilding for the sake of being really funny— and as such, the fandom continues to bend the rules, as well, for the same cause.}

Note that while the Docker CLI is required, the Docker daemon/service does not need to be running locally if you are using a remote Docker host.

Installation

To get started, follow these steps:

Install VS Code or VS Code Insiders and this extension.

Install and configure Docker for your operating system.

Windows / macOS:

Install Docker Desktop for Mac/Windows.

If not using WSL2 on Windows, right-click on the Docker task bar item, select Settings / Preferences and update Resources > File Sharing with any locations your source code is kept. See tips and tricks for troubleshooting.

To enable the Windows WSL2 back-end: Right-click on the Docker taskbar item and select Settings. Check Use the WSL2 based engine and verify your distribution is enabled under Resources > WSL Integration.

Linux:

Follow the official install instructions for Docker CE/EE. If you use Docker Compose, follow the Docker Compose install directions.

Add your user to the docker group by using a terminal to run: sudo usermod -aG docker $USER Sign out and back in again so this setting takes effect.

Parts of Speech: Parts of Speech represent possible grammatical roles of the word (e.g. Noun, Verb, etc.) Each part of speech section contains one or more definitions. Definitions: Definitions represent different possible meanings of the word. When a word has several meanings under certain part of speech, the most common definition will appear first. Auxiliary Text: Auxiliary Text is a brief definition of the word in the source language, and is useful mostly when the word has several meanings. Show/Hide Auxiliary Text Button: Button that enables you to hide or show the Auxiliary Text for the entire application. The button will appear on the first headword with Auxiliary Text. Pronunciation Key: The Pronunciation Key provides a guide to pronouncing English words. Refer to the Pronunciation Key guide for more information. Full Matches Pane: The Full Matches Pane displays the entries regarded as Full Matches. These may include the original searched word as well as derived words (e.g. plural form will be converted to singular form). Partial Matches Pane: In addition to the Full Matches entries, VerbAce displays Partial Matches entries in the Partial Matches Pane. These may include words that include the original searched word, similar or related words. The matching part of the entry headword is highlighted. Installing the JDK on macOS

Download the JDK .dmg file, jdk-13.interim.update.patch_osx-x64_bin.dmg.

Before the file can be downloaded, you must accept the license agreement.

From either the browser Downloads window or from the file browser, double-click the .dmg file to start it.

A Finder window appears that contains an icon of an open box and the name of the .pkg file.

Double-click the JDK 13.pkg icon to start the installation application.

The installation application displays the Introduction window.

Click Continue.

Click Install.

A window appears that displays the message: Installer is trying to install new software. Enter your password to allow this.

Enter the Administrator user name and password and click Install Software.

The software is installed and a confirmation window is displayed.

After the software is installed, you can delete the .dmg file if you want to save disk space.

Uninstalling the JDK on macOS

You must have Administrator privileges.

Note:

Do not attempt to uninstall Java by removing the Java tools from /usr/bin. This directory is part of the system software and any changes will be reset by Apple the next time that you perform an update of the OS.

Go to /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines.

Remove the directory whose name matches the following format by executing the rm command as a root user or by using the sudo tool:

/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-13.interim.update.patch.jdk

For example, to uninstall 13 Interim 0 Update 0 Patch 0:

$ rm -rf jdk-13.jdk

Creating a sustainable home with low running costs is one of the great attractions of undertaking a major project. But this isn’t just about deciding you want to use an air source heat pump and getting one installed. Renewable technologies can be a great choice, but you need to determine whether they’ll perform well in your project.

The first step is to get the building fabric right. Once you’ve got the key ingredients of good insulation and airtightness levels in place (to prevent warmth escaping from your living space) you can start to think about how to power your central heating system. And that can include renewables.

One of the most popular solutions, especially if you’re off the mains gas grid, is to fit an air source heat pump (ASHP). Straightforward and relatively affordable to install compared to some renewables, if specified correctly this tech can help you achieve significant savings on household energy bills.

Pairing the appliance with other sustainable options, like solar thermal panels, could help to further reduce running costs and increase the overall efficiency of your heating system.

How air source heat pumps work

Essentially, air-to-water heat pumps operate in a similar way to fridges – but in reverse. A fan-powered unit is used to extract warmth from the outside air to provide space heating and hot water for the home.

“The fan blows air over a coil, which contains a working fluid that absorbs the warmth. This is condensed using an electric compressor to increase its temperature, before being passed through a heat exchanger to warm water for the central heating system,” says Brian Horne, domestic energy expert at the Energy Saving Trust.

An appliance’s efficiency level is measured according to its coefficient of performance (COP), which indicates the amount of usable energy extracted from the air compared to how much electricity is used to power the pump. For example, a COP of five means that for every one kilowatt (1kW) of electricity used, 5kW of heat is produced.

In addition to their excellent efficiency, ASHPs offer a raft of other benefits. “Modern versions are very quiet and come with energy-monitoring systems and internet-based smart controls,” says Max Halliwell, product marketing manager for heating at Mitsubishi Electric. “Many of the best models are inverter-driven, which means they modulate power consumption to suit the needs of the house at that moment.”

If installed correctly by an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited engineer, homeowners can expect their device to deliver effective performance for approximately 15-20 years – which compares well to boilers and other renewable heat source options.

Is an air source heat pump right for you?

Most air source heat pumps deliver a lower flow temperature than conventional appliances, such as gas boilers. This makes them an ideal partner for well-insulated new builds that maintain a constant interior temperature.

“Preventing warmth from escaping your home is particularly important if you’re planning on installing an ASHP,” says Scott Greening, commercial manager at Ice Energy. “Heat pumps aren’t designed to take a property from a cold to warm state as quickly as possible. Instead, they gently heat the fabric of the building and then continually provide warmth at the same rate it’s lost.”

The most effective setup tends to be an ASHP alongside underfloor heating (UFH). This creates a more comfortable living environment because the pump only needs to provide a low flow temperature of 30°C-35°C.

Older and draughtier properties require a higher operating temperature to maintain a pleasant internal climate. “Although ASHPs are capable of operating at 45°C-50°C, this reduces their efficiency, which will have an impact on the environmental savings you could make,” says Jeff Tomlinson, sales and marketing director at Waterkotte UK.

Why air rather than ground source?

One of the big advantages of this tech is that it can be easily fitted on both new builds and renovations. “ASHPs don’t require loops of underground piping like their ground source cousins. Where space is limited, air source will always be a more cost-effective and less disruptive option than drilling boreholes,” says Scott. However, if you’re self-building, the extra digging required to install the loop in your garden can be done at the same time as the other groundworks.

“Air source technology is often preferable over other renewables when the end-user doesn’t want to be hands-on with the appliance. For example, biomass boilers require the delivery of fuel pellets or chips and will need regular topping up,” says Jeff from Waterkotte. As such, ASHPs are frequently the tech of choice for those who would prefer a low-maintenance system. They’re also easy to integrate into a scheme, as the internal part of the pump is no larger than a standard boiler.

Installing an air source heat pump

The heat pump itself is usually fitted outside in a position where it will receive good airflow. It then supplies hot water to the indoor unit (usually stored in a utility room or airing cupboard) which in turn delivers it to your chosen central heating emitters. It can also supply a cylinder for domestic hot water.

Your heating engineer will be able to survey the house to determine the best size of pump, but as a guide a 4kW ASHP will provide the sufficient output for a typical three or four-bedroom home. “They will consider factors such as the building fabric, glazing, room dimensions and heat loss when calculating the required output” says Karen Trewick from Dimplex.

Because of the lower flow temperature ASHPs supply, they work best alongside emitters with larger surface areas, such as UFH or specially-designed oversized radiators.

It is possible to retrofit an air-to-water heat pump in an older property. However, structures that aren’t insulated to current Building Regs may benefit from a hybrid model. “These appliances can bridge the gap in houses where heat loss is too high for the building fabric to be warmed by an ASHP alone,” says Stephen Bancroft, heat pump team manager at EES Renewables.

The hybrid uses a combination of a heat pump and a gas boiler, calculating the efficiency from both sources and enabling whichever appliance will deliver the most cost-effective option. “Once the efficiency threshold is breached – which is basically when the outside climate drops below 1°C-2°C – the ASHP relinquishes all heating demand to the boiler because at this point, higher flow temperatures will be required to maintain indoor comfort levels.”

Heat pump costs

You can expect to pay £5,000-£8,000 to install an air-to-water heat pump system in a well-insulated three-bedroom home. For properties that require a higher heat output, this sum could rise to as much as £12,000.

However, the low running costs that are associated with this form of renewable tech are particularly attractive. According to the Energy Saving Trust, switching from an older, non-condensing gas boiler could save you between £295 and £425 on your annual fuel bills.
