reviewing may’s comebacks (in june, because i have shit to do)
There were a lot of comebacks this month. I guess it's summer now? No idea, there's no summer in my country. The girl groups have started coming back in full force but are not impressing. The boy groups seemed to mostly go the groovy route and now I need an adjective other than 'groovy' to describe songs.
Not The End, Highlight
I'm so glad it's not a ballad. It's not bad.
You are so beautiful, SGO
Everyday I'm grateful for the retro trend and this is a great representation.
Gray Area, Hi Cutie
At some sections I like this song (the verses and the chorus) and at others I dislike it (the trap breakdown, the middle of the chorus). I complained about MAJORS' company having no money previously but Hi Cutie's company is bankrupt. Poor nugus.
Dreamcatcher and GWSN have far superior 'Red Suns' but this song is okay and I'm happy the girls look so happy to have some work (and hopefully some money) at last.
Today, CITI
A nice midtempo song. And no, I did not hear it first from a drama OST.
Make Up Your Mind, AILEE
Sounds like a Beyonce-type song.
MALO, SHAX
Apparently this is a drama OST (Imitation, to be specific. It's based on a webtoon). Basic boy group song but it sounds like it's from the 2010s or something, and that's a compliment.
Hot Sauce, NCT Dream
Initially: Um...at least Renjun looks good? Honestly I don't know what to say about this song. NCT is a group I stan so this will definitely grow on me but...is this really not an advertisement for hot sauce? Also the set resembles the set for SHINee's Atlantis in my opinion. Now: The shouting is annoying and unnecessary. Love Chenle's voice in this; it provides a nice contrast to Haechan and Renjun. Someone said the chanting should've been left to the rappers and I fully agree. Don't know about Jisung and Jaemin but Jeno and Mark would be a good fit with a chant. In my opinion the dance break isn't really needed but is it NCT without a dance break? Also, wtf are they wearing around their necks? Someone should inform the SM stylists that less is really more.
DUN DUN DANCE, OH MY GIRL
It's light and pleasant but if this song was a meal it would be a tiny appetizer that tastes good but doesn't satiate you.
WHATEVER, KEEMBO
I didn't think I'd like it at first but this is groovy and makes me want to dance while doing my chores.
Always, VAV
Song for the fans but if you need a VAV song to listen to I recommend Gorgeous.
Hurt, Baekhyun & Seomoontak
Hasn't Baekhyun been shipped off to the army yet? Anyway, love how dramatic this is.
Waiting for Victor, 015B ft. Dawon
Another great retro song! Also the singer is cute and her hair is cute as well. She reminds me of Chuu a little.
Uncertainty Principle, 015B ft. Dawon
I prefer their other song, but this one is retro as well and it's great.
척하면 척, 강혜연 (Kang Hyeyeon)
Trot that's kind of subdued but still danceable.
Badly, SURA
Loved it from the first second.
BLACK MIRROR, ONEUS
Then: Is it good enough to make up for No Diggity? I don't know about that, but this song is groovy and I'm somewhat okay with it. Doesn't have much replay value for me though. Now: Eh, it's basic groovy boy group song but I won't skip if it comes on.
Breathe Again, BLITZERS
Another boy group with a somewhat questionable name. This song is pretty good as a debut and it's somewhat memorable. I wonder if my rating increeased because of the guitars? District 9 was the same for me, but right now it doesn't interest me. I think this song will stay for a good while on my playlist though. I like the anthemic vocals in the chorus and this song needed more of that.
EASY, WJSN THE BLACK
The girls looked good but the storyline kept getting interrupted by shots of the girls. Yes, we know they're all visuals but I'd be more interested if there was actual action and plot. The song is good objectively but doesn't really interest me. Who knows? Maybe a few more listens will change my mind.
Outerspace (ft. Loco), Kang Daniel
Groovy and better than his last two releases.
Giant, Yuqi
So nice to hear Yuqi's voice on its own. The song was fine until the chorus crushed all my love for it.
Glass of Tears, HONG JA
Appropriately dramatic for a song named 'glass of tears'. It's good and if you like trot you'll like this one.
Taste of Life, Yang Ji Eun
What do you call this? Folk trot? Whatever it's called, it's good.
LOOK AT ME, ICU
OK.
WE GO, fromis_9
It sounds like the token girl group summer song. I don't dislike it, but nothing about this song stands out to me. Honestly with a mini-album called '9Way Ticket' I expected more, because it reminds me of Nine Muses' Ticket everytime I see it. The b-side 'Airplane Mode' is pretty good though and the other one, 'Promise' is a slow song but I don't really mind it, it's fine as background music.
Next Level, aespa
Umm...what is SM's plan for these girls? How can a rookie group from the big 3 have only 3 songs? And only one is an original? The song is not the best thing ever and SM surely can do better but at least it wasn't as bad as M.A.F.I.A. aespa deserves more than this.
Ring Ring, ROCKET PUNCH
Finally after Bim Bam Bum these girls have a title track I enjoy. You can't go wrong with covering Take On Me, can you? It's no Platonic Love or Sea of Moonlight, and it certainly could have done without the rubbish trap section but it's a bop anyway. Meanwhile, the b-side Ride is great and I hope they promote it. This song would be more enjoyable if their voices weren't so shrill in the chorus. High notes aren't a necessity for good songs.
Advice, Taemin
Not the best of Taemin but it's good. I love the fast tempo of the piano and the way it drives everything. Taemin's performance also elevates this song and I'm grateful he's leaving us with a good song before going on his two-year vacation.
RUB-A-DUM, TRI.BE
They're really going all out with this 'tribe' thing, aren't they? It sounds very Middle Eastern to my ears at times, sometimes it sounds African-ish and the other times it is just typical trap kpop. DOOM DOOM TA was better and more fun. At least they got the catchy catchphrase right. Blackpink in your area who? Tri-bee da loca! The b-side 'LORO' is not much fun either. The only difference is it's Latin-influenced.
Shadow, Dreamcatcher
Typical Dreamcatcher song slowed down by a lot. It's not bad, plus it's nice to hear Dami sing. Also what is it with Korea and zombies? With the MV the song sounds a lot better but the MV distracts me. Shouldn't zombies be mindless? How do they use tools and know martial arts? Or is it just my eyes? And can that tiny gun protect anybody? Are you sure that's not a toy?
The beginning of spring, E'LAST U
Not horrible but not for me either.
Oh MAMA, BLING BLING
One of the few new ggs in a while with unfortunate names. They've clearly upgraded in terms of styling and MV budget, but their song quality is no different.
Let Me Know, PIXY
Sonically it sounds nothing like their dark concept. Actually it does sound like a dark concept, if done by a boy group. It's not bad but it's not good. The industrial-like sounds in the back are interesting but the whole song is not.
Son of Beast, TO1
TOO rebrands as TO1 with this song. It's groovy.
HAPPEN, Heize
For the first time I like a Heize song. The MV is interesting too, the story was cliche but I liked the visuals and aesthetics.
FEVER, ENHYPEN
Rhis song was from the [BORDER: CARNIVAL] mini. I listened to that mini but I remember not really liking any of the b-sides except the outro and the intro, so this is a surprise.
My Flower, Kim Jaehwan
Nice upbeat song with guitars all over it. I like it.
Corazon Perdido, Yesung (Super Junior)
Initially I wasn't going to review this because I didn't even review the title track but the final moments of this song are beautiful and it deserves a mention.
Butter, BTS
The song is smooth as its title. The MV is fine except for that ARMY thing; I cringed so hard.
Bonnie and Clyde, Yuqi
Better than the other one.
Ride, ROCKET PUNCH
This is so great and I'm glad it got its own video, even if it was just a dance video glorified as a 'Special Stage'. Now if only I could stop chuckling whenever I hear "looks rike a lainbow".
Rush Hour, GAHO
Love it, especially the guitar strumming moments and the chorus when the electric guitar comes in.
GEMINI, AB6IX
Love how the vocals don't distract from the great instrumental.
FIRST, EVERGLOW
In a comment section someone said La Di Da was a fluke and I kind of agree. Everglow returns to their usual style (chanty chorus + catchy riff repeated over and over) and this song is in the same vein as Adios. I like the chorus but the rest of the song is hard to recall. Siyeon, Aisha and Yiren are the only ones who actually look good and EU needs more lines and her blonde hair back. Also why does kpop think that moving the camera around a lot creates the illusion of motion? All it does is make me dizzy.
Like It Hot, GWSN
Sometimes I like GWSN title tracks, and sometimes I don't. I don't think much of this song, but their album is great.
Je T'aime, Joy
I love you Joy but this is boring. If it was meant to be a lullaby then SM succeeded.
Burned All Black, Kim Jaehwan
His other song is a ballad which is somewhat pleasant. Well, it was until it slowed down in the first chorus.
Purple, woo!ah!
Still not one song from woo!ah! I like.
GGOMA, Tae Ho (IMFACT) and Choi Ye Geun
Loved Choi Ye Geun's Scarecrow so I was happy to see her again. The song is groovy but the chorus sounds somewhat...empty? Love the scat at the end, should've been longer. This is also a great example of a bright boy group song. See? Upbeat and bright boy group concepts don't have to be childish.
DIAMOND, Sparkling
Another Imitation OST. I honestly doubt that there are actual kpop songs as bad as this.
7days Tension, Weeekly
Ad song. Bright and the chorus is nice.
0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You), TXT feat. Seori
The angsty opening line caught my attention, then the verse after it dropped the energy. It picked up again in the chorus and pre-chorus, thankfully. It's very much pop rock, except there are no guitars in this. Doesn't stop the song from being good though.
Hello, Joy
I love Joy's voice as always but this song doesn't do much for me even though it's upbeat. A few more listens might change my mind.
Call Me, Omega III
Another Imitation OST. Doesn't do much for me, just like all the Imitation MVs. At least let us understand what your drama is about. Instead we get these random shots of what idols are supposed to be like? I don't know much about idol life but it's obvious these girls would be called nugus in real life, and I honestly doubt nugus have such nice living conditions.
No Answer, LA LIMA
Jiyeon from T-Ara is on this one. This and MALO are my favourites from the Imitation OST so far. The song is nice with a sleek catwalk vibe to it but like the rest the MV is boring.
Show Me, Tea Party
Are these the Omega III girls? Not sure but I think so. MV still boring, song doesn't interest me.
Let me go!, The Volunteers
Great rock song, I just wonder why it's all in English (I'm not complaining).

So tell me when did u start djing? How about producing?
I started DJing in 2004, when I was just turning 18.  Producing took a while longer, starting in about 2010,  starting to write and sing around the same time.
What makes you the happiest of your job?
I love connecting with a room full of people, like setting up an emotional feedback loop and being able to be present and give the crowd what they need spiritually or psychically.  It’s a spiritual endeavor, I think.  I am also singing more, in preparation for a live show coming next year, and I love singing a lot, I feel really strong and joyful when I sing.
What makes you the least happy of it?
I hate traveling, I hate missing everything I love in order to do right by the work I love to make.
What is your favorite genres to mix?
I don’t really think in terms of genre because I’m all over the place; my favorite thing is when there are two songs that I’ve never played together and it just works, it’s perfect, there is the feeling that something new is born that is special and unique to that moment.
Whats the most important aspect of a dj set for u?
Connection, I guess.  Like even if there are technical issues and the sound is shit, if the crowd is feeling it and excited and present, nothing else really matters.  On my side, I guess I like to stay ‘god conscious’, like the opposite of self conscious.  If i’m at all anxious about what people think of me, or feeling uncomfortable in my skin, it makes me less effective so I try to just stay present and tuned in with my heart and pray to not give a fuck about anything but what is necessary for the people in that room in that moment.
Do u plan your sets or u pick as you go?
Normally, unless it’s a ‘high stakes’ situation (for instance, an event that’s being streamed or that I feel a lot of pressure about), I pick as I go.  One can’t anticipate how the crowd is gonna feel or react beforehand, so I think it’s important to have technical skill and spiritual intuition sharp and kind of leave the rest up to chance.  There will be strong intuitive sensations that I try to listen for that sometimes make no sense but work out well, and this is what makes every night so unique and special.
Do you single out  someone in a crowd who’s dancing having the most fun to decide what track to play next?
I mean sometimes people MAKE themselves known that they are that person.  I recently played a 9(!) hour back to back set with Maelstrom for the closing of legendary Parisian club, Concrete.  There was this amazing girl who was just giving us LIFE for the last 3 hours, she kept ducking under the guard rail and getting yelled at by security and coming back like 45 seconds later to continue to dance.  In cases such as this, it’s always going to be like, let’s play what will make this person happy because she is so generous with her amazing energy.  Usually, however, I’m trying to feel out the vibe in general and use my love or my truth to bring it up.
Whats your favorite time of day or night to Dj? Why?
Probably like 3-5 am in the summer, because sun will just be coming up as I’m finishing and if it’s a festival or open air event, that’s really special, to bring in the day with music.
Whats your fave 3 cities to play in?
Mexico City, Paris, Somewhere in Belgium
House or techno? Techno (but with teeth, no ‘business techno’ or tech house!)
Industrial or new wave? Industrial but with feelings.
Minimal techno or acid house? Probably minimal techno but both are pretty annoying to me honestly.
Goa or psycho trance? Gabber.
Who is/are the pope(s) of techno to you ? I love Paula Temple, she is such a force.  Dave Clarke because he’s a friend and hero.  Robert Hood because I believe he makes work that is soul-healing.
Whats your earliest memory of electronic music ?
I was obsessed with Garbage and Nine Inch Nails growing up, so electronic music was way more about songs that gave me identity and meaning than with clubbing.  I feel like I am going back in that direction with my own work.
Whats the future of club music to you?
The thing I am really invested in right now is the dichotomy of ‘safe space’, like the weirder and braver and more authentic you can be somewhere, the safer it is for everybody.  I think He.She.They.(EU) Is doing this, or Bound (NYC) , or Soft Leather. (LA).  It is really a privilege to play for this type of crowd, who can really get loose and experience tolerance and freedom and a sense of community; we’re in this together.
Speaking of your personal attire what music genre do u relate it to the most? I like to dress up, put on my armor when I play.  It’s like...Sadomasochistic Joan of Arc High Fashion Queen.
What have you had to learn “the hard way” working in clubland ? I had to get clean and sober in 2006 as ‘the lifestyle’ of drinking and using was killing me. I guess the lesson in that is that I am a better DJ and a better human being when I don’t drink and use.
Your three favorite girl djs?  They’re not my favorite girls, they’re my favorites, period: as mentioned, Paula Temple, Jlin, Jubilee, Miss Kittin, Sentimental Rave, AZF, the Black Madonna, Solid Blake, Gina Turner, Cera Khin, Helena Hauff, Alienata, I could go on with the amazing music makers who are women...I was on a rave cruise at the end of 2018 with Ducky, Kittens, Nina Las Vegas and Madame X and it felt like ‘oh shit, here comes the future’ because everyone was playing such diverse stuff in such excellent form.  I felt like my heart could explode with love at the privilege of getting to be among these rad badass geniuses.
Name three tracks that you often  find yourself relying on.
‘Sissel & Bass’ (Cera Khin remix) - Peder Mannerfelt
‘Colonized’ (perc metal mix) - Paula Temple
‘Vital Energy’ - LOUISAHHH and Maelstrom

Moments In Song No. 019 - Victor
“Moments In Song” asks people one simple question, “What are you listening to?” We believe that you can learn a lot about an individual and their experiences based off of the music they love. For every installment we ask someone to make a playlist of 10 songs they’re listening to, whether it be something new they stumbled upon, or a song they’ve always loved, and explain the story behind their choices. The person’s playlist is then uploaded, giving them the chance to share it with others. Each post aims to profile someone from a different walk of life, whether they be an artist, a student, the mailman, a school teacher, an athlete, a nurse, your next-door neighbor, anyone with a love for music; showing that no matter where we come from, what we do, or what we look like, music has the ability to bring us together.
With an ethereal set of songs that accompany his pensive thoughts, pharmacy student and rapper Victor gives us a track by track breakdown of his playlist. We talk his musical influences, Clams Casino productions, and what he thinks is the greatest song of all time.
Listen to Victor’s playlist on Apple Music and Spotify.
Words by Julian | Photos by Tayo
What was thought process behind putting your playlist together?
I just made a playlist of almost all the songs I listen to when I’m in pensive thought or songs that have a cool ethereal mood to them. I’ve always been in tune to that kind of music. That’s why I have two songs from Clams Casino on there. For me, Clams Casino is probably one of the best producers of the past decade. Very influential. His influence spans what most people can even fathom. If I look at his work with Lil B in 2009, 2010, and then look at the type of beats all these rappers are rapping on now, or their style, and how they rap, Clams Casino and Lil B were very influential.
Without Lil B and Clams Casino partnering, Clams Casino doesn’t have the platform that he has today. Then someone like A$AP Rocky probably doesn’t hear him, and so his first two projects don’t have that Clams Casino sound. You look at so many artists that started to blow up in 2010, 2011, A$AP Rocky, Mac Miller, Lil B, they were really coming out with that “drop your top, relax and cruise to music,” and I think Clams Casino is a big part of all of that.
Other songs that I put on my playlist from underground artists like Reva Devito, Thatshymn, Abhi//Dijon, these are artist I listen to when I chill, or when I study. That’s what I’m trying to go for with the playlist. Just a type of sound that you don’t have to necessarily have move to it, you can just sit back, relax, and get into your own zone.
I put my song on there at the end because I thought it helped tie everything on the playlist together.
I was listening to your playlist earlier and I noticed there weren’t any real dance or turn up kind of songs on there.  I felt like they all fell into either a boom-bap category, with like eu-IV and Reva Devito, produced by Tek.Lun, the old school Kendrick, and on the other half, that Clams Casino, Abhi//Dijon, Sango, kind of relaxed and melodic category. Did you know from the start that this is the kind of theme you wanted your playlist to encompass?
Yeah absolutely. Even though some of these songs are kind of old, like “Ignorance Is Bliss,” “Realest Alive,” and “Moments In Love,” which is from the 80’s, I listen to them either every day or at least once a week. Especially times when I’m in school, studying, or in the mood to delve into my thoughts.
“Ignorance Is Bliss” is one of Kendrick’s best songs to me. Overly Dedicated does not get the recognition it deserves as a cumulative work. I personally do believe that Overly Dedicated is on the same tier as Section.80 in terms of Kendrick’s bravado and lyricism, because he’s really rapping something serious on that song. I still go back to those to projects a lot. I feel like a lot of the themes on there are universal. There’s no filler on them. You know exactly what you’re getting.
“Moments In Love” is a long song, it’s like 10 minutes long, and that version has always been my favorite. People don’t know how influential The Art Of Noise are, just to music in general. When people listen to Yeezus or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, or some of the stuff from Michael Jackson’s HIStory album, The Art Of Noise did that stuff back in the 80’s.
I’m not super familiar with them, are they a pop group? Electronic?
They were an experimental band in the 80’s from the U.K. So many things that people are doing today, they did 30 years ago, which is mind blowing. The way “Moments In Love” is structured, you have a lot of different part, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of different breaks. And all of these breaks evoke a different emotion, and plays into the emotions that someone might feel in a relationship. When I was making this playlist, I knew it had to be number one. In my opinion it’s the best song of all time.
Wow, that’s quite the claim.
Honestly. Out of everything that I’ve ever listened to I can’t find anything, at least in my personal opinion, that really…
Evokes that same kind of emotion,
Yeah emotion, the techniques they use for the time era they were in. If you listen to other stuff from the 80’s compared to this, this is just crazy.  It’s still even really different compared to music out today. Along with that, its influence that people may or may not know about is amazing.
And then after that I went to “Realest Alive.” Lil B’s version isn’t on any streaming sites, but it’s a great song.
Tumblr media
What era of Lil B is that?
That’s 2010 Lil B. So that’s when Lil B was just really starting to get out there. This was back when Lil B would release 5 songs a day. Literally he would release 5 different songs a day, and he would have 4 troll songs, and one song that was great. And he would do that on purpose because when he tries he’s an extremely good rapper. The thing is that he’s a deconstructionist. If you listen to Lil B from 2008/2009 he’s rapping on perfectly on the beat, but towards the end of 2009 he released “Like a Martian” and started doing all his based freestyle, stream of consciousness stuff. So during that time, this would be the 1 out of the 5 songs he’d be serious on. By 2011 he was legitimately a well known phenomenon.
Yeah I feel like around that time he was doing a lot of work with Soulja Boy, and influenced that way he made music after that. And even guys now like Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi, there’s definitely some Lil B DNA in them.
For sure. So from “Realest Alive” it goes to “Ignorance is Bliss,” which has Kendrick rapping about a whole range of different topics.  I feel like that streamlines very well into “Numb” by Clams Casino. Now from “Numb” I wanted to lighten up the mood a little bit so I went into songs that are love related. Once you get to “IVyou Pt. 2,” “Rose Gold,” “Therapy” those songs show more of a positive side of what one can feel in a relationship.
You go to “How Do You Love Me” by Xavier Omar and Sango. That song is actually about Xavier Omar asking God, “How could you even love me, even though I am the way I am, even though I am this imperfect being?” I think it segways nicely from “Therapy” because Thatshymn talks about how weed, drinking, and sex can be a form of therapy, but for Xavier Omar he’s talking about how God can be a therapy. For me. I feel like that’s a great contrast, and shows two different forms of love.
And I just finished things with “Stu Pickles.” It’s a good mellow track, talking about relaxing with friends and everyone working together to achieve their goals. For the lyrics I say, “I’m way to blessed to not stress right now,” it’s just me talking about God blessing me to be in the situation I’m in.
I think in our society we take a lot of things for granted. I saw a crazy statistic one time when I was younger. It said if you have a house with electricity, a roof over your head, a bed, and all these other commodities, you’re already richer than 75% of the people in the world.  If you think about that it’s crazy. Everyday really is a blessing, and you try your best to fill it out, and find your way to where you need to go.
What songs and artists made you want to start rapping and making your own music?
If I’m thinking about my favorite rappers growing up, Tupac is number one by a mile. Tupac was extremely influential to me. All Eyez On Me, I know that entire double album back and forth because my dad had the OG double CD that was released in 1996. So after Tupac, it’s Nas, all of his stuff. The first album I ever bought with my own money was his Untitled album. That and the Wu-Tang Clan’s 8 Diagrams. Wu-Tang Clan was also very influential to me. Enter the 36 Chambers  I know that album so well. ODB was so ahead of his time. You listen to “Brooklyn Zoo” and the way he’s rapping is so crazy, but somehow he’s perfectly in pocket, he’s perfectly on the beat. In order to rap like that is extremely hard. ODB to me is just an extraordinary rapper.
Any final thoughts on your playlist?
It’s a microcosm of me throughout the years. It represents the type of music I listen to when I’m in a pensive mood. It’s “sit down and think” music.

Inna
Tumblr media
One of Eastern Europe's most popular performers, Inna earned an international reputation as an EDM diva, lending heat and personality to house-influenced dance tracks. Hailing from Romania, Inna scored a breakout hit in 2008 with "Hot," a tune that first became a chart success in Romania, then swept through Europe and in 2010 crossed over into America. She also proved to be simpatico with Latin artists, duetting with Daddy Yankee ("More Than Friends") and J Balvin ("Cola Song"), and she also worked with hip-hop stars such as Flo Rida ("Club Rocker") and Pitbull ("All the Things"). As Inna's career progressed, she explored a more pop-oriented sound on her 2017 album Nirvana, as well as Latin and Gypsy influences on 2019's Yo. HotInna was born Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu in Mangalia, Romania on October 16, 1986. Her mother had a career as a singer and dancer, as did her grandmother, and Elena discovered her love of singing while attending church with her family. Her parents recognized her talent early on, and when she was seven years old they signed her up for lessons with a vocal coach. While Apostoleanu loved music, she was hesitant about making it her career, and in her teens she enrolled at Mangalia's Colegiul Economic (Economy College), where she studied political science. She auditioned for the Romanian group A.S.I.A., but didn't make the cut, and turned to office work to support herself. However, fate stepped in when one of her co-workers heard her singing to herself at the office; her work friend had an in with the successful Romanian production team Play & Win, and Apostoleanu was introduced to them. Apostoleanu cut some tracks with Play & Win, and adopted the stage name Alessandra in 2008; that same year, she made her first television appearance on the show Teo! The name Alessandra didn't last long, and she began using the handle Inna, a nickname her grandfather had given her as a child. Inna released her first single in August 2008, a house-influenced dance track titled "Hot" that topped the Romanian charts, became a success across Europe, and would belatedly hit the American dance airplay chart in 2010. A second single, 2009's "Love," quickly rose to the Top Five in Romania, and Inna's first album, Hot (released in some European markets as Very Hot), arrived in August of that year, and featured another international single, "10 Minutes." Her success led to Inna being named Best Romanian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2009 and 2010. I Am the Club RockerInna's second full-length album, I Am the Club Rocker, arrived in September 2011, and featured guest appearances by Flo Rida ("Club Rocker") and Juan Magan ("Un Momento"). Once again produced by Play & Win, the album rose to the Top 20 in Belgium and the Czech Republic and peaked at number eight on the Mexican album charts. Inna's May 2012 single, "Caliente," was a thank you to her fans in Mexico, and two more international singles followed, "Tu Si Eu" and "Inndia." "Caliente" and "Inndia" would appear on Inna's third album, Party Never Ends, which was issued in March 2013; Play & Win produced many of the tracks, but several other producers were on board for the project, including DJ Frank E, Orange Factory, Steve Mac, and DJ Smash. The tune "More Than Friends" featured a cameo appearance from reggaeton star Daddy Yankee, and Inna toured the United States for the first time in support of the album. Later the same year, Inna did a guest spot on Pitbull's "All the Things" from his EP Meltdown. In 2014, Inna signed an American record deal with Atlantic Records, and her first release for the label was the single "Cola Song," which featured J Balvin and was played more than 62 million times on major streaming services. By this time, Inna had over 750,000 followers on Twitter and 12.5 million likes on Facebook, while her videos had collectively been viewed over two billion times. October 2015 brought Inna's self-titled fourth album, which was released in Japan under the title Body and the Sun. Guest stars included J-Son ("Bamboreea"), Eric Turner ("Bop Bop"), and Marian Hill ("Diggy Down"). The album rose to the top of the Romanian charts, but failed to live up to expectations in many other markets, including Japan and Mexico. In 2016, Inna joined fellow Romanian stars Antonia, Lori, and Alexandra Stan in the all-star project G Girls, who made their debut with the single "Call the Police." They released a second single in 2017, "Milk and Honey," with Lariss taking over for Stan. That same year, Inna became a judge on the Romanian music competition show Vocea României Junior, and in December 2017, she released her fifth album, Nirvana, which mixed stronger pop influences with her usual dance and EDM approach. Unlike her last two albums, the album was recorded entirely in Romania, and featured three singles, "Gimme Gimme," "Ruleta," and the title track. In September 2018, Inna dropped the single "Ra," produced by David Ciente. The track was a preview of Inna's sixth album, 2019's Yo, a Spanish-language effort steeped in Latin and Gypsy sounds. The album was Inna's first release in a new American record deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation label. Source Read the full article
