FAS3002 Group Research task- JoJo Maman Bebé

Following the lectures and research we were introduced to in the lectures prior, we were tasked to research JoJo Maman Bebé (JMB) as it is a pre-existing brand that is similar to our initial brand concepts. As part of this, we researched the key areas that make a brand, and distributed these as a group. I focussed on their brand identity; looking at their key cores and values was pivotal to understanding the rest of their brand. It was immediately clear that sustainability was the core driver of their products and promotion, with key quotes and slogans revolving around sustainably made products being more important than profits. Evidently, they still make a decent profit otherwise their brand would not have grown as much as it has by this stage. Nonetheless, this would be a reassuring statement for the customer. As a whole, we completed a presentation that explained their key products and customers. Significantly, they have a vast range of products, selling gifts, food, garments, maternity wear, toys, jewellery, and hygiene products. Still, despite all these products, it is clear sustainability is at the core of the products, reflecting their brand identity. This made it difficult to research price as it was such a varied range of products- we discovered that their average maternity garment price was £30 as this was the most relevant aspect to our brand. 

I further discovered how JMB is an international company, with stores worldwide, although it is based in the UK. They have a strong online presence and a highly developed website as well as stores. Notably, they were the first company to have water refill stations in all of their stores, proving their drive for sustainability. They work with many charities, and run a second hand scheme, FAMTA, which is something we were also considering for our brand. Similarly, they are part of the Better Cotton Organisation which works to create sustainable fabrics, further proving their commitment to the planet. However, they do sell on Amazon, making one question the genuine commitment to all aspects of sustainability. 

Following this group research task, I shall use it to further my development by applying the research skills we developed as a group on my own individual research into other maternity brands. Similarly, we shall explore the FAMTA scheme to discover whether or not this would be viable for our brand too.
