#Edie did quite a bit of work for the GCPD but a lot of it was fruitless when the corruption was that bad

Mr Nigma, you said you worked for the police before. Did you enjoy your time working there at least?
unprompted fun before I closed anonymous
"Hardly! Working for the GCPD was a stifling experience. A complete and utter waste of my prodigious talents to put it lightly." Edward could hardly look more bored reminiscing about his time as the GCPD's Head of Cyber Crime Unit. Oh, it was a nice change from the usual dull questions about his childhood or accursed father, don't get him wrong, but it was such a small part of his humble beginnings as Enigma. Before he became the Riddler. "I despised the job from the moment I stepped foot into the hypocritical halls of that hallowed precinct. The people I worked with, the nonsense they had me doing, all of it was a joke and moreso once I found my bearings. When I understood the lion's den I had truly walked into. Within my first week I had uncovered half my peers were deep in the pockets of some gang or another. Imagine, pretending to uphold justice when you're taking bribes from those you've sworn to prosecute." A lot of that had changed since the word got out. The word he'd helped spread before he'd gotten arrested and thrown into Blackgate. That had all been him, all the juiciest details redacted of course but he'd been responsible for getting the word out, not Batman as many liked to believe! "My 'esteemed' peers underestimated me, thought me a child as I'd not long since graduated with my PhD in computer programming. Could you believe they didn't think it was real work? Not like them parked on their rears scoffing donuts by the dozen! No, they were doing the 'real work' while I, Edward Nigma found the facts, unearthed truly deplorable information only for none of it to matter because those responsible knew they only had to pay off that detestable pig, Loeb."
Edward scowls, a spiteful one that's only pacified when he remembers the fate of the old police commissioner. Murdered by Black Mask apparently, but anybody who was anybody knew it had been the Joker. Before he'd become the infamous clown he was today. "My 'job' involved many petty things. Extracting data from confiscated hard drives, mobile phones, that sort of thing, as well as analyzing digital evidence to identify the more savvy criminals. Not many criminals just put on a costume and go robbing the bank these days, the real money is made online like on the dark web. You think any of those double digit IQ morons sitting on the back bench of the cafeteria know how any of that works!? They can barely navigate Internet Explorer, let alone understand how to send an e-mail." Edward's scowl darkens but there's something morose about it as he rests his chin on his hands, an unreadable expression creeping into the mix of anger and frustration. "Some of the things I saw on those harddrives don't bear mentioning. I'm pretty sure you can figure out what I'm talking about having to bring a riddle into it."
