Edubuntu fue estrenado en 2005 como parte de los “sabores” que integraron la serie Ubuntu desde su versión 5.10 «Breezy Badger». Esta variante de perfil educativo, continuó lanzando nuevas versiones hasta Edubuntu 14.04 LTS, que por falta de colaboradores en el proyecto, terminó siendo la última edición oficialmente publicada.
