W. Graham Robertson, inspiration for Dorian Gray and my very favourite Singer Sargent portrait. Apparently Sargent invited him for the portrait and “Why a very thin boy in a very tight coat should have struck him as a subject worthy of treatment I never discovered,” he reminisced later,” but he “evidently had the finished picture in his mind from the first.”

I also love that the book illustrator kind of used this painting in his drawings.

So edwin was terrified of staying in hell but also getting out of hell because he knew he'd never be brave enough again to confess his love to charles.

He needed that much fear and bravery just to let charles know about his feelings. Can't imagine how much he would've been overthingking the whole way going up the endless stairs in hell- and charles responding with "love you too, can we go?" without giving it any serious thoght was so hillarious and lovely. They complement each other so perfectly
