Vintage from the 1980s Ships from a small business inCanada Read the full description Materials: gold plated, ladt in yellow, painted and glazed, china plate, concerned young man
Description
This plate represents a scene from the Rediscovered Women Series. "Confiding in the Den" is the discontinued eleventh plate in a limited edition, 12 plate series that was produced between 1982-1984. This Collection commemorates the changing roles and looks of the American woman throughout history, with some of Norman Rockwell's most iconic works. Issued in 1983; Approved by the Rockwell Society of America and crafted by Knowles China in an edition strictly limited to a maximum of 100 firing days. It is Numbered and signed. This is a beautiful collectible plate depicting a very intense young man gazing intently on a beautiful young woman, who is obviously making some kind of decision… marriage?, job offer?, Lost her dog?. She has come in from the rain to someone she trusts to find comfort in helping her make the choice she has to make or information she has just received. My reason for having this plate was that I was about this girls age, I had to make a big decision and it was my pastor that helped me decide what to do; he calmly sat in his chair in the church office and said, “What would Jesus do?” Before Bradford Exchange passes a plate to the buyer, it checks for chips, cracks, bubbles, and flaws. If there are any, they discard the plate because they want to make them as perfect as possible, they become collectors’ currency. When one slips through, it makes it unique, one of a kind. A collectors dream. When you look at the pictures, you will see a 2mm black line flaw kilned right into the plate between the ceramic and Glaze. There also is a dent in the gold trim. A double flawed plate. They should have thrown it away, but it got through all the inspections. The back of the plate has the following wording: “Plate Number 6631 E. In the only limited edition of "Confiding in the Den" by Norman Rockwell, Eleventh Issue in the Rockwell's Rediscovered Women Collection Made in an edition strictly limited to one hundred firing days and certified as a "True Rockwell Classic" by the Rockwell Society of America. All rights reserved Bradex no. 84.R70.4.11” Because of the low number and low lettering on the plates kilning, it is saying that is was most likely created on the 5th day in the early morning of that day. There are two emblems: In black-Edwin M. Knowles, America's Oldest Name in Fine China, 1854 and in red-The Official Rockwell Society of America. Non-profit. Bradford Exchange Classification Artist: Norman Rockwell Title: "Confiding in the Den" Collection/Series: Rediscovered Women Plate Type: Painted Brand/Maker: Edwin M. Knowles Material: Fine China Size: 8.5"in. Diameter; dimensions: 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 1" Circa/Year: 1983 Condition (Used): Plate Vintage Good Condition Wipe Plate with water if needed (Dust) Not intended to be used to eat from. It has a 22 Karat gold trim around the rim. I do not have a certificate of authenticity. Sold AS IS used "Like New" Vintage Condition. This treasure is in excellent condition free of any chips or cracks. The original certification papers were never in my possession. Does not come with the original box but comes with a BONUS: FREE Handmade Soft-Cover Booklet: “Smithsonian America Art Museum-Teacher’s Guide-Telling Stories Norman Rockwell from the Collections of George Luca and Steven Spielberg”-Publishing for this booklet was Donated by Jo Love’s Creations Publishing and Printing Department, in 2021. printed on cotton linen; plus, it has some added perceptions of my own. The original hardcover book sells for upwards of $100 including shipping and handling on Amazon and eBay if you want them. Check “the master violinist” collectors’ plate in my store for more pictures of the book. I was very impressed how he had mastered the facial expression of real people. Norman Rockwell wasn’t just painting friends; he was painting American dreams.
