You were his friend and yet his heart kept telling him something else..

I feel like he is the type of guy to go from super talkative and blunt to shy all of a sudden.

He will disappear for a few days then pull you aside!

“Look, Y/N. I know I joke a lot but it’s been hard to be around you. No! Fuck. That’s not what it’s supposed to be. I love being around you. This is hard..”

“Breach, what are you trying to say?”

You had not seen Breach in what felt like weeks. You had gone from spending almost every day with the man to being alone. The headquarters felt so dreary without his loud and talkative voice beside you. You had given him space, thinking that the recent mission had gotten to him but it was getting a little suspicious. You searched around and even asked Jett and yet nobody had seen him. Finally, you decided you would take a visit to his room - after all, he couldn’t ignore you there.

Your fist wrapped against the door, voice calling out for him. There was a shuffle and a few cuss words before the door flew open. To your surprise he looked decent and not as sad as you were expecting. 

“Hey Y/N.” He shrugged, motioning you in.

“Hey Breach, you alright? I haven’t seen you in a bit.. If something is bothering you, you know I’m here.” You murmured. The man nodded and sat down, patting the spot next to him.

“I know. I just needed to be alone with my thoughts. I was confused for a bit but I think I understand now.” 

You raised an eyebrow at the ominous response. 

“Understand what?” 

He cracked a smile, soothing your aching heart at the thought of him in distress. 

“I was feeling weird. I love being around you and yet I felt this tightness everytime I saw you. I thought maybe it was because we were always together or something.. I thought spacing myself from you would help but it only made it worse. I came to the conclusion that I like you. Like uh.. I really like you. In a not very friendly way.” His green orbs looked away, pale skin going red. Your eyes widened at the admittance. 

“I’ve liked you for quite a while.” 

“I know you don’t feel the sa- WHAT? Say that again?” Breach screeched, his metallic arms reaching for you. You couldn’t help but laugh at his response. Sometimes he was a little oblivious but that made you only love him more. 

“Yeah, dork. I like you!” You smiled, lunging into his embrace. You could feel his lips smile, pecking the crown of your head. 

“That’s great. I can do this all the time then? You will officially be my partner?” 

“Well of course. Just don’t let Phoenix or Harbor know. I think they had a bet on us.”

“Of course they did. I’ll show them.”

Astra

Astra: the accusative plural form of the Latin word astrum, 'star'

Efia Danso: Efia, meaning 'born on Friday.' Danso, from Ghana, Akan origin, means 'one who is reliable.'

Breach

Viking AU excerpt

Do you guys remember me getting excited abt this? Well, i’ve outlined my plot points now and i’ve started writing :))) Here’s my first draft of my prologue! Ultimately I went more AC with this and tried to incorporate more gameplay stuff than completely historically accurate. Also, I obviously played a little w relationships since it’s an AU and all, but I think the basic stuff is there. idk, lmk how you like it so far I’m in my early chapters rn

“Why are you doing this? You don’t have to listen to him!”

Erik stormed past his sister who tried to cling onto his arm, but he withdrew his hand and walked past.

“I have until sunrise to leave. Are you with me or with him?”

“Erik, you have to—”

“My father took you in. He housed you. He raised you, and now he is gone. You heard his words, you saw the challenge, so who’s side are you on?” With every line, he took a step closer. He would never hurt her, no, but he needed to know who was loyal to him, and who was loyal to his brother. “Kirra, but you must choose.”

“It’s you. Of course, I choose you.”

“Good,” he ruffled her hair and smiled. “Then let’s get packed. Those who are loyal to me will meet us at the docks.”

“Where will you go? To the east? The Rus—”

“No. The east is poor this time of year, and my brother already has friends along the rivers and seas there.”

Swords, an axe, his shield, they were all a priority. They would have enough rations for a week’s worth of travel maybe. Erik searched under his desk and found his hidden chest of silver coins. There were other treasures and trinkets that he would’ve liked to bring had he had more time, but this was the lot that was drawn. He needed to get out.

“Erik Torsten. You haven’t answered me yet.”

He stood up straight and gave himself a second before turning to face his sister. “West. We go to the land of the Norse, get what supplies we’re still missing, then go west to England. There’ll be plenty of land, and my brother was never a fan of the warmer weather there. We’ll be safe.”

“Are you giving up on our home?”

There was pain in her voice that was echoed in his chest. This was their homeland. Their ancestors lived and died here. They knew every inch of their land like it was the back of their hand. Both had lived good lives here, full of memories and love that meant nothing the moment his brother turned on him. And if they left, it was unlikely they would come back.

“Yes. For now.”

“What if we reached out to our Norse allies?”

“They would never make an enemy in a different land, and they would never support a coward—”

Kirra scowled and protested his words, “You are no coward!”

“We may know that, but according to our traditions… That is what I am. Now, let’s go.”

He put his arm around his sister and led her out to the waiting longship. There were others that looked to be ready to leave with him – enough to fill another longship, but they were still a minority. These were the ones who would believe in his leadership. The rest who stayed were either too afraid to leave their home, or on the side calling him a coward. Either way, as he looked at the darkness over his town, torches flickering in the chilly air, he knew that this was not the last time he would set foot here. But until then, Erik would need to say goodbye.

Finally talking about these guys!!

I left off here, and I'll just continue from there

I wanted to insert a family tree somewhere but realized that the family tree isn't that big and I can explain it like that, just a bit later. I want to talk about Astrid and her relationship with her (currently present) family members.

First off, her dad Erik. He's the most chill guy here and probably the one with almost no issues. He's just a guy who loves his family a lot. And he's also minister of finance in Askr and is one of the most important court nobles. He's also pretty scary when it comes to negotiating with him, but as I said, overall he's very chill.

Then we have her (present) brothers- Aster, Torsten and Brynjar (the most important of them is Brynjar, he's the youngest). Astrid is closer to Torsten(book guy), but they all are close and have a healthy siblings relationship (although she still would rather tell her secrets to Torsten)

And her mother, Tora. A business lady. She is a loving mother, and she's equally enthusiastic about her job- that would be raising pegasi and training pegasi knights. Astrid was into pegasi since the young age and has been training the second her pegasus grew up and was ready to train.

But uh oh Tora's family is shit!! Tora is a younger sibling, her older sister Vigdis doesn't possess jotunn blood so Tora became the successor and the head of the house. It's a family rule that the successor has to be the one with jotunn blood, and as I mentioned before, jotunn blood most of the time manifests in women (Geirskogul was a Valkyrie so that's the main reason). Vigdis has a daughter who's a couple of years older than Astrid's brothers, and she also has a daughter. Both of them have the jotunn blood, and both of them have the right to be Tora's successors.

Vigdis wants to be the head of the house (or have some sort of influence), since it should be rightfully hers, she's older; Tora doesn't want to give her place to someone who's in this just for money. Unfortunately for Tora, Vigdis is smart, and uses everything at her disposal. It was simple negotiations at first, since her daughter is older than Astrid and should technically be prioritized. Vigdis then turned their parents and most of the nobles to her side to add some pressure on Tora, since even their parents think that Vigdis' daughter should inherit the title and that it's only right. After Tora declined and officially made Astrid her successor, Vigdis changed her approach from pressuring to poisoning and hiring assassins. Vigdis was very careful to leave no evidence that would point at her, so even though it all was obvious to Tora, she couldn't do anything. By that time Brynjar was born, and Vigdis knew that Tora doesn't want any more children, and this leaves Astrid as the only successor and a very easy target. Some of the poisoning attempts were partially successful, but Astrid developed an immunity to them pretty quickly, and by the age of 12 she already could tell poisonous food by the smell of it. Assassins Vigdis hired never succeeded, as Tora would guard Astrid pretty much 24/7. Jotunn blood can give one the strength of a jotunn once it's spilled, so after the age when Astrid learned to use this power, the assassination attempts have stopped. And it was quiet for some time.

Up until Vigdis' daughter gave birth to a daughter with jotunn blood. Vigdis began her negotiations again, as her granddaughter should be next in line after Astrid, and Tora's parents take Vigdis' side here as well. And that's the current state of Astrid's family. Everyone fights, and most of the nobles aren't on Tora's side. One of the reasons Astrid joined the order of heroes was to escape all this, and one of the reason Tora allowed it was the fact that Astrid would actually be safer there than in her own home (thankfully Vigdis and their parents live elsewhere and rarely visited them.. until Vigdis' granddaughter was born).

Also, Vigdis could actually be the one who gives shelter to the two disowned sons of Tora. I'm not saying that she is, I'm saying that she has all the power to do so. hehe..

What Vigdis doesn't know is that Brynjar actually possesses the jotunn blood, and by all the rules he is next in line after Astrid. They keep this a secret from Vigdis and it worked so far.
