For the prompt: Hogwarts AU - Jake and David finally getting together!

As promised, because this was getting crazy long, while this was a Patreon exclusive prompt, the outside POVs of this are going here so everyone can enjoy.

Between Georgie, and the Quidditch Cup, and Georgie, and NEWTs, and his papa not being super hyped about Robbie getting engaged before he actually passes said NEWTs, and like…Georgie Dineen — who is going be Georgie Lombardi-Dineen, because it sounds better than Dineen-Lombardi, they’re agreed on that — Robbie’s got a lot on his mind.

Still, Robbie has never been one to let a bro down, and as someone who is maybe kind of a believer in The Power Of Love lately, caps totally necessary, Robbie is not going to let Jake down.

Because anyone with eyes knows Jake’s been crazy into David since they were first years, which is an impressive amount of time to hold a torch, even in Robbie’s opinion, because Robbie didn’t get struck in the face with the clue bat until third year, and only pined pitifully for a year and a half before he snapped and grabbed Georgie by the face. It kind of kills Robbie to think of Jake making it to graduation and beyond without ever actually doing anything about it.

It’s not Jake level obvious, because nothing is Jake level obvious, but David is totally not uninterested. Robbie’s been his Potions partner for years now, and he was kind of hard to figure out at first, but he reacts to everything Jake does — Jake drops his quill? David glares at him. Jake looks at him — and Jake is always looking at him — David bristles. Jake answers a question in class? David grinds his teeth.

And yeah, that sounds like annoyance, and Robbie thought it was for a literal year, and felt like shit for Jake, but David also ducks his head and starts looking at the ingredients, ears going pink, whenever Jake talks, even though the teeth grinding is definitely happening too, and shoots glances at him that are as split second as Jake’s are lingering, and the bristling is probably just because he gets caught because Jake’s always looking back, and fundamentally being as aware of Jake as Jake is of him. Like, they may be handling it in two completely different ways, but they’re about two seconds away from furiously making out at any second.

Unfortunately, Robbie’s pretty sure if he told David to go for it David would charm his mouth shut and set his robes on fire, and seven years of pining doesn’t really testify to Jake’s ability to go out and seize the day and the bristling Hufflepuff, so Robbie’s at a loss.

Except. Except David’s best friend is a Slytherin, and his girlfriend is the first in most of their classes. If anyone can figure out how to get something to happen before they all graduate and separate and Jake forever pines for the one who got away, it’s a Slytherin-Ravenclaw power couple.

Robbie thinks it’s time to enlist some outside help.

Two months before they graduate, Lombardi corners Kirill and Em in the library.

“Look,” Lombardi says. “Are we just going to let them leave here without at least fucking it out?”

“Crude,” Em says, and Lombardi apologizes, so Kirill guesses he doesn’t realize she said it approvingly.

Kirill shrugs. Doesn’t bother to pretend ignorance, because they all know who he’s referring to, all know Lourdes’ seven year flame is reciprocated. “Up to David,” he says. “I won’t interfere.”

“That is the least Slytherin thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Lombardi says, and Kirill can practically feel the ghost of Lapointe’s presence — not an actual ghost, Kirill must clarify, considering the location, but more an echo of many, many years of pamphlets, even though Lapointe’s graduated and is now working for The Daily Prophet. People were appalled that he was selling out, especially to a newspaper that’s so virulently anti-Slytherin, but Kiro suspects he’s attempting to dismantle it from the inside out. He approves.

Kirill just shrugs again. “Up to David,” he repeats.

“Look,” Lombardi says. “Do you know how many witches and wizards marry the person they dated at Hogwarts?”

“You would,” Em says, and Lombardi twists the ring on his finger. Kirill can’t tell if it’s self-conscious or proud. They’re the first to get engaged, but they’ll be far from the last. Em wants them both to go to post-secondary first, to live a little, but they probably won’t be an exception to that either.

“Do we tell him?” Em says to her textbook, after Lombardi attempts multiple tacks to convince them, and then, frustrated, storms away.

“Hm?” Kirill asks.

“Do we tell him they’re already fucking it out?” Em asks.

Kirill shrugs. “Up to David.”

Jake’s been weird lately. Kind of shifty, like he’s holding back something, which really isn’t like him. Jake’s not even an open book, he’s a picture book. His heart’s not so much on his sleeve as on his forehead.

Robbie and Georgie don’t seem to notice, but honestly Robbie and Georgie don’t seem to notice anything outside of each other, and while that was always the case, it’s intensified since the whole coming back from Hogsmeade on their anniversary with identical rings and shit eating grins. The first time Roman mentioned that Jake was acting off, Georgie only surfaced long enough to say “Jake?”, like he was trying to place the name of a guy he’s shared a room with for seven years, then went right back to staring into Robbie’s limpid pools or whatever he’s calling them lately.

They’re brown. His eyes are a normal brown. No limpid necessary. Roman doesn’t even know what limpid means, but he knows it doesn’t apply to Robbie’s eyes.

“Hi Roman,” Connie says when Roman passes him in the hall after breakfast, smiling that little smile, bright blue eyes crinkling at the corners.

“What’s limpid mean?” Roman asks Emily in Transfiguration.

“Clear,” Emily says, which doesn’t sound good enough. “Like, crystalline if you’re referring to eyes. Why, has Georgie been writing poems again?”

“Huh?” Roman asks, then, “Oh. Yeah.”

Crystalline sounds about right.

“Hey, has Jake seemed weird to you?” Roman asks, when he’s stopped daydreaming. Emily’s nudged her notes where he can see them, so she must have noticed.

“I don’t know him very well,” Emily says, but she sounds sketchy, looks visibly tense.

“Wait,” Roman says, because Emily doesn’t know Jake very well, yeah, but she can usually be found with Volkov and Chapman. “Chapman?”

Two rows ahead, Jake swivels, eyes all wide, and Jake reacting to ‘Chapman’ like a dog would react to ‘walk’ isn’t unusual, but the panicked look he gives Emily is.

“Shit, wait, seriously?” Roman says, and is about to say more before Emily jabs her quill into the back of his hand.

“Fuck, Ross, what the—”

“We’re not talking about this here,” Emily hisses, and Roman nurses his hand and painstakingly copies the notes Emily nudges closer to him in apology.

Heartbreak is the name of the game! Not really but once you get past the idea that only teams that win can have fun fan bases and have players having a blast you're set.

I'd say start with the 'Fishing with Fischer' series on TikTok or the 'Linemates with White Claw' series on YouTube for the fun stuff to get to know some of our players from last season (and even some of the players we've lost since then). As for other fairly important things

Learn how to ignore the hate for the team early.

Don't trust reporters not based in PHX. Craig S Morgan, Jose Romero, Haynes P Evans, Chris Peters, and Kaci Demarest are my go-tos other than the actual Yotes accounts.

Don't fall into the trap of because there aren't a tonne of Yotes fans here on Tumblr that we don't exist. @shortykingcoyotes @desertpups @periodicavocation are some people I talk to most often about our Yotes and are good follows.

As for my favorite players, Lawson Crouse, Nick Schmaltz, Cam Dineen, and Dysin Mayo are a few of my favorites but Keller is a fan favorite and up and comers like Dylan Guenther, Liam Kirk, Conor Geekie, and Logan Cooley are taking fans by storm. Our prospect pool is getting deep and we're working them hard to get them ready for the show even though most of our draftees from this year are spending some time in the NCAA.

The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? 'I feel sexier as I get older': Back on TV in a compelling new drama, Michelle Dockery tells how her own confidence has soared after playing a succession of strong, sassy women

Since she burst onto our screens ten years ago as Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary, all cut-glass vowels and nerves of steel, Michelle Dockery’s kept us in a permanent state of emotional whiplash with the sheer variety of roles she’s taken on.

She was a drug-addicted con artist in the 2016 TV series Good Behavior, a gun-totin’ cowgirl in the acclaimed 2017 drama Godless, and a Cockney gangster’s moll in Guy Ritchie’s crime caper The Gentlemen.

One thing you will not see, she insists, is Michelle Dockery playing a piece of arm candy.

‘I like to play strong women,’ she says when we meet for coffee pre-lockdown in New England, where she’s been shooting her new TV mini-series Defending Jacob.

‘And even if they’re not strong, they have to be interesting. Multi-faceted, complex, complicated, three-dimensional... and flawed too, because people are. Anything but boring!’

That doesn’t mean they can’t be sexy though, and she says the added bonus to playing these characters is that, at 38, she’s finding herself feeling sexier than ever.

‘Sexy is not about having anyone else make you feel sexy, it’s about how you feel inside, and I have certainly felt sexier as I’ve got older.

But I think that’s a confidence thing too. I’ve been lucky enough to play such strong, confident women, and when you do that you definitely take something from them with you into your real life – you sort of get inspiration from them.’

Her latest character in the thriller Defending Jacob is a straightforwardly good woman – although one thrust into bewildering circumstances.

Laurie Barber is happily married to handsome local Assistant District Attorney Andy Barber (Captain America film star Chris Evans), and mother to her wise-cracking 14-year-old son Jacob (Jaeden Martell).

She’s the sort of woman who goes for a run before breakfast, then quizzes her son on vocabulary over coffee before heading to her high-profile job managing a home for abused children.

She’s just so together... until her son is accused of one of the most hideous crimes imaginable – the cold-blooded murder of a classmate – and her entire life and social circle begin to unravel as the police investigate.

‘It’s a really gripping story, because it’s so difficult for this couple to comprehend that their child might commit any sort of crime, let alone a murder,’ says Michelle of the story, based on the 2012 novel by William Landay.

‘They’re both defending their son, and like any parent would, Laurie’s asking at the same time, “Where did I go wrong?”

'There’s conflict between Laurie and Andy because at the start of the story she’s the emotional one and he’s the calm one, but then as the story goes on there’s a need for Andy to be emotional too.

'So they’re always seeing things from a slightly different perspective.

‘It’s a very human, raw story about what something like this can do to a family, and what’s so interesting about Laurie is that as her life is turned completely upside down, she also begins to question things about her family – “How well do you really know your partner? How well do you really know your child?”’

Michelle’s own family background is modest but as stable as anyone could wish for. The youngest of three girls born to Irish-born lorry driver turned surveyor Michael Dockery and his redoubtable wife Lorraine, a former shorthand typist turned social worker, she was brought up in Romford, Essex, working class and proud of it.

‘My mum is loving but she’s also strict,’ says Michelle. ‘When I was about seven I stole some penny sweets from a shop. Mum caught me and made me go back and apologise to the shopkeeper, and I’ve never stolen anything since!’

She was also raised – as were her sisters Louise and Joanne – to speak up for what was right.

‘I was brought up to stand up for myself. To speak up when I felt passionate about something, when I felt the need to make my voice heard about something that mattered.

'I think a lot of that comes from having sisters, because we’ve always supported each other all along.

'If I’ve ever felt bullied or pushed into a corner, I’ve always been able to stand up for myself. And if I see it happening to someone else, especially younger actresses, I’ll stand up for them too.

‘I hate bullying. I have huge admiration for women in Hollywood and elsewhere who have come forward to tell their stories about that, and have stood up against people like Harvey Weinstein.

'It’s horrendous what they experienced and I’m glad something has been done about it.’

It’s safe to say no one has succeeded in taking advantage of Michelle, and she says now that when she first broached the idea of going into acting to her parents they were not in the least bit concerned.

‘They weren’t alarmed by it at all!’ she laughs. ‘They made sure I had a good education so I had something to fall back on.

'Both my parents are wonderful. My mum is the most incredible woman, she inspires me.

'And my dad’s amazing too – even though he spent our growing-up years with a bathroom that was never free! They let me be who I want to be.

'So between them and my two elder sisters, who are still my best friends, I’m very lucky. We call ourselves the Essex Mafia!’

Her career choice can hardly have come as a surprise to the family, as she says she wanted to be an actor ever since she can remember.

When she and her sisters were small they attended a stage school in the evening, and they would put on plays at home to entertain the family.

Michelle apprenticed at the National Youth Theatre when she was a teenager, and as soon as she’d taken her A-levels she enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

‘I feel I learned more at drama school than I did anywhere else,’ she says. ‘Even when I was at regular school I was never out of the drama department, so I didn’t do very well in other subjects.

'I just didn’t want to be taught anything else. But there’s a huge amount you learn in drama school besides acting, like history and literature, and that was where I came into my own.’

It was, of course, Lady Mary who made Michelle famous. ‘It happened overnight,’ she says.

‘Well, I’d been working in the theatre for seven years, so it wasn’t really overnight, but I remember after the first episode of Downton Abbey aired, walking into my newsagent’s where I was living and seeing a picture of myself, Laura Carmichael and Jessica Brown-Findlay, the three Crawley sisters, on the cover of three papers and that was huge.

'Then the first time I was recognised on the street was in New York, and that was even bigger because that’s when it hit me how big the show had become if I was being recognised in America.’

With talk of another feature film in the works after last year’s hit Downton movie, she says playing Mary is as comfortable as slipping into a second skin.

‘I have huge fondness for her, she’s been a big part of my life. That was a very special show, and I hope it’s one that stays with people forever.’

It was through Downton that she met the man she thought she’d be married to now.

In 2013, her co-star Allen Leech, who played chauffeur Branson, introduced her to Irish-born public relations executive John Dineen.

She and John fell in love, became engaged and were in the process of planning their wedding when John was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He died in December 2015 with Michelle by his side.

At his funeral, the day after her 34th birthday and a day before what would have been his 35th, she told mourners, ‘He was my friend, my hero, my king, my everything.

'We celebrate him, we honour him, and we will miss him.’ She has not spoken out about her grief, but has admitted that it was her friends and family who helped her pull through, saying, ‘They are the ones who see you through the most difficult times.’

She has been dating Jasper Waller-Bridge, brother of Fleabag’s Phoebe, for a year now.

They met through friends and Jasper, who is six years Michelle’s junior and the creative director at a talent agency, accompanied her to red-carpet events before lockdown.

It was also reported that she bought a £1.7 million house in north-east London before Christmas.

Michelle hasn’t commented on the relationship but she does say that a sense of humour – surely a given with any member of the Waller-Bridge family – is vital in a relationship.

‘My parents always taught me to see the funny side of life and never to take myself too seriously.

'I find that more and more as I get older – I’m finding ways to laugh things off much more than I used to be able to.’

Right now, Michelle Dockery would seem to have plenty to smile about.
