I’m going to admit right off the bat that this is a strange, oversimplified-seeming product. But I love it! Like a clicky pen or a piece of bubble wrap, it’s the simplest things that are the most satisfying.

The purpose of this Exfolimate tool is not to ice cakes or squeegee your shower door, but actually to smoothly and gently remove dead skin cells from your body and face. With much less abrasion than many scrubs and the ability to be quicker, cheaper, precise and VERY SUSTAINBLE, these little dudes have Smooth Edge Micro Groove technology, which is a kind of 80’s stereo supply store way of saying that the steel edge is beveled with tiny grooves too small for your eye to see but perfect for picking up your dead cells.

Of course, they don’t hurt in the least and help stimulate your skin through gentle pressure. They are truly perfect in the shower as pre-self tanner prep because they really do completely exfoliate without irritating your skin the way a brush might, or leaving oils like a scrub.

Exfoliation is a key element of any effective skincare regimen.  This is how you remove the dead skin cells off your body so that your healthy skin can receive the nutrients it needs to replenish and heal.  It can also then adequately and efficiently absorb any new healing ingredients you put onto it, so your skin can look and feel radiant, smooth and healthy!  Imagine trying to water a garden that had a pile of dead leaves covering it.  You would end up with a pile of soggy dead leaves and a garden bed that is still dry as a bone, right?!  Likewise, you NEED to remove the dead skin cells from your body first, before you do anything else.

There are many different ways to exfoliate.  One can use a chemical exfoliator, such as  Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or one can use a physical exfoliator that actually (gently) scrapes the skin, such as chia seeds, cranberry seeds etc.  Of course, one can also use tools to aid in the process, such as a sponge or, in this case, a blade!

I never thought I would put a blade to my face, but the Exfolimate is actually not a blade, it just looks like it.  It is specifically designed to be safe and gentle on your skin and it’s not sharp, so it won’t cut your skin.  They make one for use on your face, and one for use on your body.  Then for the body is larger that the facial one, which is great because you need a smaller size to navigate the unique landscape of your face, nose, etc.

The secret to the design is microgrooves on the surface that really clarifies your pores but gently lifting and removing away dead skin cells and debris like dirt and oil.  Remember, it takes skin at least 28 days to turn over so you will see results after about that time.  Another great thing about this, is that you don’t need any chemicals to exfoliate, you just use Exfolimate and water!

I used the Exfolimate in the shower to make it easy.  It’s meant to be used on moist skin in the shower, while your pores are open, and even comes with a cord to hang it up in the shower when you’re done using it.  It’s easy to rinse off and does not rust.  To use it, you put it against your skin at a 90 degree angle and gently glide it along your skin, it will gently exfoliate your skin while also massaging it and increasing circulation to the skin surface.  You won’t see skin coming off, I promise!  It is meant to be something you see over time.  Using this daily, I did notice that my skin felt softer and smoother.  You have to be careful though, it can make your skin extra sensitive to the sun, so make sure you continue your sun protection.  Overall, this is definitely worth getting. It’s easy to use, gives you results and is chemical free!
