April 2010 , the Werenbach wristwatch concept was born! Ten years ago, during a jogging session in an April weekend, Patrick Hohmann got the unique & exciting idea of creating a truly fascinating timepiece, made out of pieces of a spaceborn expandable Russian Soyuz launchvehicle… By 2012, the Swiss entrepreneur created the Werenbach company and travelled to Kazakhstan to collect the first scrap metal from the white fairing & grey strap-on boosters of the Soyuz TMA-06 M mission, which fell 350 kilometers downrange from the Baikonur launchsite. In 2013, the very first Werenbach wristwatches were produced and a few Werenbach watches made it to the International Space Station on the wrists of ESA astronauts (e.g Andreas Mogensen). Anno 2020 Werenbach wristwatches made from 7 Soyuz launches have been created and new ideas are on the thinking board… This is a Werenbach - Leonov series wristwatch with Soyuz MS-09 booster metal dial. Happy 10th anniversary of an exciting & unique idea / concept ! (Photo: MoonwatchUniverse)
