Engine Room Light Converted to LED
There was a classic explosion-proof light in the engine room. It was originally equipped with an incandescent lamp. As was done for the other lights in the boat, I wanted to convert the lamp to LED. My first effort was to use LED replacement lamps that have the usual Edison screw base, but I found the LED lights were unreliable and after a sail or two they would stop working. Looking for…

Comparative analysis: conventional flame retardant lamps system and non-explosive LED lighting
In today's era of technological progress, lighting systems have undergone significant transformations. Traditional lighting systems are being replaced by more energy-efficient and safer alternatives that utilize LED light sources. This blog provides a comprehensive comparison between conventional flameproof lighting systems and advanced explosion-proof LED lights in terms of energy efficiency, safety, cost-effectiveness, durability, environmental impact, and applications.
Exploring Conventional Flameproof Lighting Systems Conventional flameproof lighting systems rely on inefficient bulbs such as incandescent, fluorescent, and high-intensity discharge lamps (e.g., sodium vapor or mercury vapor). These systems consume excessive energy, generate heat, and have short lifespans. Their fragile construction and heat emissions pose safety risks in flammable environments. Additionally, they require ballasts for certain lamps, resulting in longer start-up times and unsuitability for frequent on-off cycles. Flameproof enclosures for these systems are bulky and heavy, requiring robust support and secondary retention systems.
Introduction to Explosion-Proof LED Lighting Explosion-proof LED lights represent a revolutionary lighting solution specifically designed for hazardous environments. They offer notable advantages, including low energy consumption, reduced heat generation, and an extended lifespan. LED lights are renowned for their durability and reliability, enduring even the harshest conditions.
Energy Efficiency Comparison Explosion-proof LED lights surpass conventional lighting systems in terms of energy efficiency. They consume less energy while providing equal or superior brightness. The utilization of advanced LED chips in these fixtures makes them over 60% more energy-efficient than traditional lighting. Switching to LED lights results in significant energy savings, reduced operational costs, and a smaller carbon footprint.
Safety Comparison Explosion-proof LED lights prioritize safety in hazardous environments by combining intrinsic safety, encapsulation, and flameproof protection. These advanced fixtures are compact, lightweight, and cost-effective, featuring limited or no sparking components and improved air ventilation options. LED drivers replace conventional ballasts, allowing for frequent on-off cycles and lower failure rates. Additionally, LED lights reduce the risk of breakage, minimizing accidents caused by shattered glass.
Durability and Lifespan Comparison Explosion-proof LED lights excel in durability and lifespan, as they are designed to withstand harsh conditions. In contrast, conventional lighting systems are more prone to damage and degradation, necessitating frequent replacements and maintenance.
Application Comparison Explosion-proof LED lights are particularly suitable for hazardous industries, including oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, and marine sectors. Their durability, safety features, and energy efficiency make them an ideal choice for environments with flammable gases, vapors, or dust. Conventional lighting systems lack the necessary safety measures for high-risk settings.
Conclusion Explosion-proof LED lighting systems provide energy efficiency, safety features, durability, and a reduced environmental impact compared to conventional lighting systems. Prolux International LLC, a leading supplier of explosion-proof lights in the UAE, offers high-quality products for hazardous areas, including explosion-proof cable glands, flame-resistant cables, junction boxes, control panels, isolators, plugs, and sockets. [ Previous Entry ] ♦ [ Read @ AO3 ] ♦ [ Chapter Index ]
TW: Mentions of S.A. Reader discretion advised. Thank you to @swtorramblings for proof-reading!
Even though she never ran out of work to help the Alliance, her husband was all she could think about ever since reuniting with him. During a brief respite from a Force Enclave training, she took a moment to relive the past. Sitting alone in that bench made her hunger for his touch--how they used to cuddle by the fire while reading news on a datapad or just having some empty chat. During her pregnancy, it would stress him out if work got in the way of him being a fulfilling future father.
She was the one having butterflies in her stomach once the Sith hunting her down removed his helmet. It was the boy with Crown Prince Gaul that she saw on Alderaan when they were children, grown up to become a tall and handsome young man. She had no doubt that he never remembered or even saw her that day, being a handmaid's daughter. The revelation of Master Karr's true self was a shattering experience that led to her deciding to take her chances by joining the Sith who defeated her former master. Especially after he dared her to use her power on him and discovered his true self, which she kept as a secret while she deceived him by only describing the darker traits. Rionnic was as close to home as she could get at that time.
By the next month after joining him, she accidentally overheard the Sith hum a tune in the shower when he thought the ship was empty. It sealed the deal for her. A confirmation of that strange feeling she was resisting whenever Rionnic was around. Such scandal kept her spirits lively and bold enough to start hinting at her feelings towards him. It didn't take him long to notice. At first he was confused on how to react and what to do with it, until it started to affect his performance on being Baras' apprentice. One day, he called her to talk privately.
To reject her.
One of his reasons was not wanting to be seen… predatory. It was only a few months after they met, and he wanted to focus on his missions. Ultimately, he stated that he wouldn't want to start mingling with a Jedi, and tricking everyone in the ship into believing that Jaesa had fallen to the darkside was already pushing their luck. But he never said that he did not feel the same, cried her heartache. The rejection was expected but she didn't believe that was all of the reasons--he was still hiding something.
Something dark.
She decided to also focus on her mission of aiding light-leaning Sith, and on a larger scale, to change the Empire from within. When it became difficult, she would seek out his counsel and advice. He would do the same from time to time--their conversations gradually became less awkward and wider in topics, resulting in improved teamwork and relationship.
During that fateful mission in Quesh where Baras betrayed him, escaping the explosion around the cave injured him greatly. Rionnic saw a large debris falling straight onto Jaesa and made a split second decision to jump and shield her with his own body. It knocked him out, but she was safe because of it. Blood started gushing out of his wounds as she tried to use the Force to push the heavy debris away from them. It was difficult; she ran out of energy after a few minutes of trying while being pinned down by the newly minted Sith Lord. One side of her wanted to stay in his embrace like that forever, but her common sense said they needed medical treatment ASAP. As luck would have it, the debris suddenly floated out easily, revealing two figures approaching them. Some of her strength quickly returned as she shifted their positions so that she was cradling his head on her lap. Rionnic opened his eyes to her face and the two unknown figures, but the pain was unbearable.
"W-who are you?" asked Jaesa nervously.
The pureblood figure with the deep voice answered; "Hmm. Still alive. Meet us at the nearby outpost. If you survive, we will explain."
"Wait!"
But the two pureblood figures walked away swiftly. Jaesa helped Rionnic to his feet, making the journey to the nearest medcenter. They spent a day recovering but Rionnic insisted on meeting the two purebloods as soon as he was able to walk, much to Jaesa's dismay.
And thus his path on becoming the Emperor’s Wrath and exacting revenge upon Baras began. He secretly confided in Jaesa about doubts on being selected to be the next Wrath. She agreed, but again kept her true reason inside. The person she saw was not made to be an executioner. However, that opinion aged badly when he met the Jedi who wore his face. Rionnic was so close to driving his crimson saber through the doppelganger's heart. The encounter seemed to unnerve him more than Baras’ somewhat expected betrayal.
The Jedi even had the gall to later impersonate him and then took his crew hostage.
This angered Rionnic and he was dead set on killing the Jedi imposter. The Jedi's words were honeyed and full of questions, but he didn't give him much time to talk as hearing his own voice in a Core World accent, spewing those Jedi lies aggravated him. The fight was the most infuriating--the Jedi was powerful enough to repel and shield against his Ataru mastery; and worse that the Jedi didn't even have to utilize his lightsaber much to protect himself. But eventually his cunning and hatred won against the Jedi's Force prowess, managing to cripple him for the execution. Alas, his plan failed again when another Jedi with silver hair ambushed him and then rescued the imposter, calling him brother. Somehow, the way the silver-haired Jedi shouted her brother's name resonated deep within Rionnic, and the two Jedi took the opportunity of a distracted Sith to flee with their lives.
All of that was witnessed by Jaesa and the crew from the cockpit of Fury, being unable to help.
After unlocking the ship, Rionnic left Corellia with even more questions in his head. The recent betrayal by Quinn was still fresh in his mind, and then he would still have to stop Baras on Korriban before it was too late. The Sith was a mess of a person--and he was failing to cover it up. Vette and Jaesa were his only comfort, the latter was extra attentive towards him. It had not gone unnoticed, but he pushed it aside to focus on dealing with his former master first.
Her expectations of facing Baras together however, were dashed. Rionnic insisted on her staying aboard Fury to guard the rest of the crew while Quinn accompanied him. A business between old friends, he said. While the two men were away, she took the time to discreetly research the Jedi doppelganger. What she found out was shocking, but she had heard of a young Jedi quickly rising through the ranks. The new Barsen'thor of the Jedi Order. He even had a family; mother, step-father, uncle and half-sister. Jaesa began connecting the dots--that perhaps Rionnic was part of that. But no records of him anywhere relating to them. Strange.
She debated whether to share the results of her findings or not, because looking at his disheveled face was an unexpected outcome from ousting Baras in front of the Council. It took some time to get him alone and possibly talk about the matter.
"It's official. The Emperor's Wrath." he scoffed.
"Can I ask?"
Rionnic nodded as Jaesa took a seat next to him. "Is that from the position itself or are you… disillusioned?"
A slight smile formed on his lips. He leaned back on the seat, his posture more relaxed. "You got both of that right. Read my mind?"
"Unnecessary. I can tell from the way you described the… event. What exactly happened? If you don't mind telling me."
His gaze wandered off to the stars by the window, taking a moment to reflect. The quietness made her a little nervous. "Nothing you haven't heard of. It's just another job… perhaps it could be advantageous to your mission. I'll see what I can do."
A rapid surge of bravery took over her. She placed her hand on his, eyes determined, and voice a little louder. "Don't. You'll risk jeopardizing your position or even your life. It's alright, it'll be slow but I can do it. I'm attempting to change the future of billions of people anyways… so it’s-"
He suddenly clasped her hand, making her gasp. "The future that I also want. It'll be selfish to not work towards it and not help you. I've gotten this far. I've survived worse. Do you believe in me?"
With cheeks aflame, her brown eyes fixated on his bright blue, and fingers crossing his, she smiled a genuine one after a long time. And that was enough to weaken him. The silence no longer unnerved them, but invoked a new, tempting yet mystifying sensation. It's as if he spoke those three words already. Without a thought, his other hand reached out to touch her smile.
She then threw herself on him for their first kiss.
At first he was hesitant, but then he deepened the kiss by embracing her. They were lost in each other, releasing all the pent up feelings, the close calls on their lives, the stolen glances, the stigma around who they were, and the loneliness. They both wanted this, and those circumstances were damned at that moment. Her breathing became labored as she pulled away panting. "You need more breathing exercise," he teased in a deadpan manner.
"I'm exercising right now."
She cut off his audible smirk by locking his lips again. The passion escalated towards wandering hands, but as soon as her hand reached lower than his abdomen, he pulled away abruptly. His eyes widened, his body froze, then he quickly exited the room. "Wait!"
Her question of what went wrong went unanswered. Rionnic pleaded to be left alone, and she reluctantly complied. She was left feeling a mixed bag of emotions. It felt as if she was close to realizing her infatuation only to have it crash down on her. They both spent the whole day avoiding each other.
But it must be resolved, after she meditated on it. She waited until he was back from a Dark Council meeting to get his attention. The thunder and endless rain of Dromund Kaas worsened her frame of mind. She kept on knocking on the door, waiting for a response from him. Despite the mounting uncertainty, he finally opened the door. "Just give me one minute to-"
"Come in first, please," he beckoned calmly.
She swept away some tousled hair from her eyes as they both sat by the office desk. "I… I want to apologize for that night. I didn't know you're not comfortable with it. I'm truly sorry about my brazenness…" pleaded Jaesa, worried that he never lifted his gaze up to her eyes.
"You have nothing to apologize for."
"I swear I won't do that again."
"No."
"What?"
He finally met her eyes. She could see that his breathing was erratic, gulping down his heartbeat to manage his nerves.
"I have something to tell you. It's going to be hard to listen to. Harder for me to say."
Dread began creeping up her veins by a singular guess that he would reject her again. She linked her fingers together, bracing for whatever he was about to say.
"When I was… younger--as a child. Someone… someone did something to me. I thought I'd buried that, moved past, but… it just… came back. I'm sorry. I should have told you earlier."
Her jaw dropped as she listened to his confession. Then her hand covered it up, wincing at the realization. "I'm-I'm sorry! I'm so sorry if I triggered your trauma--I wasn't aware-"
"Again, you don't need to apologize. I... I wanted that kiss. I never regretted that night," as he held her free hand, "I just need time. I want to get there with you, if you'd allow it..."
Words that sounded like music to her ears. She got up from her seat and hugged him, stroking his dark blood mane. "I'll be by your side through everything. It's an honor... I love you."
His gaze softened upon hearing that, all the apprehensiveness and tense posture became a lightness that felt like a feather in the air. "I love you too." as he leaned into her ribs, securing his arms around her. It was the start of their whirlwind romance.
Surprisingly, there was a period of peace and time away from work for both of them. They made the most out of it, exploring the new concept of being lovers. The couple returned with Jaesa's parents to Alderaan, but still kept their relationship secret. It was one thorn in their otherwise laid back romance; Rionnic intent on letting her parents know about their status, while Jaesa disagreed. She had doubts about her parents' approval which could potentially lead to Rionnic reconsidering their relationship.
"I want to be part of their lives too, Jaesa. You know eventually they will find out. But…" as he paused, brows furrowed. "If you think it's dangerous for them, we'll leave it be."
Not the exact reason for her reluctance, but a fair point. One that would tear their foundation apart years later. But one of the most meaningful days in their lives was on the horizon.
Makeb was a beautiful world of vistas and resorts by the clouds. It took quite an effort to save the planet and open its wealth of Isotope-5 for the Empire. Rionnic and a team of spec ops in stealth watched the departure of The Ark carrying most of the planet's population; it was the last piece of their plans to be rid of the Republic's presence on that planet. Darth Marr was satisfied with the results. But Jaesa wanted to stay a little longer, pitching it as a date. He reluctantly accepted, trusting that the quakes had stopped. Walking around the abandoned streets and gardens was quite calming for the couple.
Something caught her eyes as she tugged his arm to point at it. She could read the expression through his helmet, but he just obeyed her smile, entranced by her happiness. She stood on her tiptoes, taking off his helmet when they arrived at the object of interest.
A ruined wedding scene.
The groundquake made short work of the decorations. Jaesa held his hands, and her next words came out rather smoothly, confident in his response.
"Will you marry me, Lord Wrath?"
Rionnic frowned. "Would you… not start calling me that?"
She chuckled, then agreed to his request. His gaze softened as he shrugged; "Why not?"
Someone startled them with a slow clap. An old man slowly approached them, then mockingly offered to officiate the wedding. The young couple was conflicted--Jaesa was sheepishly receptive but Rionnic was apprehensive, wanting to leave. The old man insisted, changing his tone to a more amiable one. When asked about his name, Maeza was the answer as the couple gave out theirs. "Blasted Avesta… I knew he's hiding it, trying to appease the people. I refused boarding that unfinished gigantic money sinker because I'd rather die with my home. Right here. Hah! But I knew staying was the right choice. This planet is still standing--just look at it! It's a miracle!"
The young couple stole a quick glance at each other as the old man continued rambling.
"Say, to celebrate my niece's not-wedding, I'll let you take her place. C'mere quick."
Jaesa pulled the hesitant Rionnic towards Maeza, ready to be officially wed to the love of her life. "You may now kiss the bride, I guess."
Rionnic leaned down to plant a soft kiss on her lips, but she pulled him back in for a more passionate one. Once again, they were startled by an enthusiastic clapping with a tiny squeal.
"Vette!"
"Congrats! I knew it!" as the twi'lek hurried towards them, looking smug at her discovery. Rionnic grimaced upon having his secret romance uncovered, but he trusted Vette well enough to have her keep it concealed.
Time passed by with one looming issue hovering around them. They had yet to consummate their marriage. Jaesa had never once hinted or brought it up to him, respecting his trauma and content on just being a home for him. However, it was a different situation in his mind. He wanted to do it, but didn't know where to start. One of the rare nights where they get to share a bed, he decided to talk about it first. Communication was key.
"Jae… would you want to have me tonight?"
The Jedi's eyes rounded, and heart skipped a beat upon hearing that. Immediately she sat up and placed a concerned hand on his shoulder.
"Are you sure? You really don't have to do it. I don't mind at all."
"But I want to. I'm asking if it's mutual."
Jaesa paused, unsure on what to say even though her intention was to take him up on that offer. Her hand shifted to caressing his face which he leaned into. "That's what I want too, but if it becomes difficult we can stop at any time. You don't have to force it."
He smiled, shedding his walls to reveal a shy and vulnerable interior. She took the initiative, kissing him hard. They were progressing well but Rionnic stopped abruptly again, apologizing exasperatedly. Each time they failed, Jaesa would hold his hand through it, always letting him initiate and quit anytime. When they eventually reached that point, it was emotional but relieving, opening up new possibilities in their relationship.
Naturally, it also presented them with the greatest gift of their lives.
When she first discovered it, she didn’t tell him right away. Rionnic was experiencing yet another monumental revelation of his life: his biological family. His imposter turned out to be his twin brother, and the silver haired Jedi was his half sister. He even learned that his real name was Rionnic, in theme with Riornivo, his younger twin. His biological mother was beside herself upon meeting her long-lost son, being a secret erased from her mind. He was indifferent, something he would later regret. Even though his twin was affectionate and wanted a relationship with him, he kept his family of Jedi at arm’s length.
Her long train of reverie ended with a tap on the shoulder. Even though her memories were lengthy, it was only minutes of meditation. Nadia apologetically requested her presence to help supervise the Force enclave training. With renewed motivation, she complied. The image of Rionnic smiling, kissing her eyebrow, then stroking her belly after she told him the news was a piece of the past she held on tight, determined to earn it back.
