Sebelumnya nyoba Fastron yang 20W-50 enak-enak aja, tapi belum berapa lama jadi kasar lagi. Mau balik ke Shell, nyari yang 20W-50 ga ada, jadi balik lagi ke 15W-40.
In case you're wondering, angka-angka itu mengacu ke tingkat kekentalan oli berdasarkan standar dari SAE. Makin besar angkanya, berarti makin kental. Kebanyakan oli sekarang punya dua tingkat kekentalan (multigrade). Oli dengan SAE 15W-40 misalnya, punya tingkat kekentalan 15 di suhu rendah (W=Winter, atau saat mesin baru dinyalakan), dan tingkat kekentalan 40 di suhu tinggi (suhu kerja mesin).
Lalu, baiknya pake yang mana? Buat motor yang masih baru, ada baiknya kembali ke standar pabrikan. Biasanya sih motor baru sekarang pakai oli 10W-30, tapi bisa dicek lagi ke mekanik bengkel resminya. Tapi, rule of thumb, semakin tua motornya, lebih baik gunakan oli yang lebih kental, makanya buat motor gue yang udah hampir 10 tahun umurnya, gue udah nggak pake lagi oli asli pabrikan motor, karena yang dijual seringnya yang 10W-30, sementara gue nyari yang minimal 15W-40.
Dan satu lagi, sebaiknya jangan gonta-ganti merk/jenis oli. Kita nggak tau aditif apa yang ada di dalam tiap merk/jenis oli, takutnya kalau sering gonta-ganti merk/jenis, ada aditif dari oli sisa yang nyampur dan jadi reaksi yang nggak diinginkan.
