Ledge Point - Lancelin - Pinnacles
We just got back from a camping trip. It was just a short one night trip, but we had fun. This trip we wanted to swim with the dolphins at Ledge Point, and then go do some sand boarding at Lancelin and enjoy the sunset at the Pinnacles.
We left Perth at about 8.30 and went straight to Ledge Point. It was a very chilly day. Weird for summer in Perth. But it was too cold for most of us to swim. And maybe too cold for the dolphins to come play too. We came here last year and got to swim with the dolphins. The locals told us that they come almost everyday between 10 a.m. - 12 noon. But today, they decided not to turn up.
Having lunch at Ledge Point
We had the whole beach to ourselves
After lunch we headed to Lancelin for some sand boarding. What is that? Well imagine snow boarding. Replace the snow with sand. Yes, you rent a board, and go down the beautiful sand dunes.
If you are heading there, rent the board from the sand dunes area. Don’t bother renting from the ones at Lancelin town. Rental is $10 for 2 hours. But you’ve got to be really fit to sand board the whole 2 hours. The trip down is fun, but climbing up... that’s a different story all together.
After spending 1 and a half hour sand boarding, laughing, tumbling down the dunes, we decided to head to Cervantes. That’s where we camped for the night. Cervantes is 15 minutes drive from the Pinnacles. Most people would do the trip in a day. But I highly recommend that you visit the Pinnacles during sunset and sunrise. Especially sunrise. It is just mesmerising. And to do that, you need to spend the night at Cervantes.
The Pinnacles at sunset
If you decide to go for sunset, be very careful when driving back. There are a lot kangaroos here. Make sure not to knock into them.
The next morning we woke up at 5 a.m., prayed Fajr and headed to the Pinnacles again. This time, we had the whole place to ourselves. Well almost. There was just another couple that early in the morning taking pictures.
