A PSA FOR PEOPLE SIGNING UP TO FIC IN A BOX

Okay so I am seeing people sign up for Fic in a Box— 10k exchange where you can pick up micro-assignments in 1k increments so instead of one 10k fic you can write one 5k, one 2k, and one 3k, etc, super fun, join me, message me for more details if you want— but there's something I need to mention.

I am seeing sign ups that look like this

The sign-up said that you had to list things that you like or link an off-site letter, so this MIGHT be a list of likes— or it might be a DNW (Do Not Want), there's no way to tell. If I got this in my assignment, I would be going to the mods immediately to ask for clarification, as I wouldn't know that this means.

So first thing, you're filling it out, you have to list things like

"Likes: [the likes] DNW: [the stuff you don't want]"

You need to specify which is the likes and which is the stuff you DON"T want, or you're gonna be getting a message from the mods. And a big feature of the exchange is people looking at your signup in the app and deciding if they want to opt into it, but because of the uncertainty, possibly people won't be picking up your assignement during swaps, because they can't tell if they like what you like or they like what you don't like. So you want to make sure your sign-up is clear and compelling, if you want to lure people in.

Second thing: this is really important. I am seeing people put in DNW lists that are like this.

Point one: this is an open exchange, and can be signed up for by anyone on the internet. You have no guarentee that the person who gets your assignment is going to be coming from your specific fandom micro culture, and what they think is fine might not be what you're used to. So for example, this DNW leaves graphic torture open, Major Character Death, omegaverse, child harm, covid, cancer, chat fics— that's cool if you're into those things as themes, but I will say I see them on DNW lists a lot and if you don't want them you have to say that.

Point two: this sign up leaves NSFW open as an option, but it makes no specifications at all about your tastes in NSFW. If you don't want smut, you really have to specify that you don't want it, and unless you're okay with literally every kink on the market, you might want to specify your tastes. For example, this DNW still leaves piss fetish open as an option, or pregnancy, or noncon, or daddy kink, or incest, just to list a bunch of things that I am not passing judgement on if you're into it but I will say I see them on DNW lists a lot.

So I would really recommend taking a look at some of the other signups in the app and paying attention to their DNWs, and seeing if people are specifying things that you want to make sure that you're not interested in.

I blacked out and when I woke up I discovered that I had made a height chart of every* Lapfox Trax/Halley Labs alias. There may be some slight mistakes here and there but I made sure to make it as accurate as possible.

Out of every alias, Mayhem is the tallest at a whopping 6’6-7’0, while TQBF is the smallest at 4’9.

* This does not include Azrael-II, RHODE STRIXMAN, Neko, Bandetto, Cambium, Sonitis Vir, JAQL, hyi, or greenhouse due to a lack of information. This also does not include Mungyodance exclusive aliases nor group aliases. All of these were gotten off of the wiki; if something is wrong, let me know.

EDIT: I fucked up Ren’s height is also 5’4.5 💀 it’s such a minuscule difference though that i don’t think updating the chart would really matter.
