Portrait of Joséphine de Beauharnais (1812). Firmin Massot (Swiss, 1766-1849). Oil on canvas. Hermitage Museum.
Joséphine Tascher de la Pagerie married Alexandre Vicomte de Beauharnais in 1779, but lost her husband to the guillotine during the Terror in 1794. Two years later in 1796 she married General Napoleon Bonaparte, but their marriage was subsequently dogged by persistent rumours of her infidelity. She was crowned Empress by Napoleon in Nôtre Dame in Paris on 2 December 1804, much against the wishes of her husband's family. The empress bought coral jewelry of all shades from rich red to pale pink. Here she wears it as beads surmounting combs, hanging from the ears, and in strings around the neck.

I was thinking about Titus haircuts and femme Aziraphale, so I did a study of Firmin Massot’s 1807 portrait of Juliette Récamier!
The Titus cut was a trendy gender-neutral hairstyle during the First Republic in France. It’s probably not totally in character for Aziraphale to rock such a revolutionary look, but I say this angel deserves to have some fun!
