On Karnataka Minister's Cow Slaughter Remark, Siddaramaiah's Response
Tumblr media
Cow Slaughter Law in Karnataka: Siddaramaiah said there was a lack of clarity in the law Bengaluru/New Delhi: Amid protests against a Karnataka minister's statement seeking review of the stringent anti-cow slaughter law, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the matter will be discussed in the cabinet meeting. Siddaramaiah said there was a lack of clarity in the law brought in by the previous BJP government and that the state government will discuss it in the cabinet meeting. He, however, said that no decision was taken yet. "We will discuss it in the Cabinet. We have not decided anything yet," he said. Earlier, K Venkatesh, Karnataka's Animal Husbandry Minister, had triggered a row with his statement that - "if buffaloes can be slaughtered, why not cows?" "The previous BJP government had brought in a bill. In that, they have allowed the slaughter of buffaloes, but have said cow slaughter should not be done. We will discuss it and decide," he said while addressing the media. Mr Venkatesh also suggested that slaughtering of aged cows could help tackle the challenges faced by the farmers in managing the cattle. The BJP held statewide protests against the minister's statement over the past two days. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, in a series of tweets, condemned Mr Venkatesh's statement and asked Siddaramaiah to give "appropriate advice" to his colleague. "Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh's statement is shocking. We condemn his statement. We Indians have an emotional connection with the cow and worship them as mother," Mr Bommai said. "There's no good reason for Congress to repeal the cow slaughter bill. Congress is going against the sentiment of Hindus. They trying to disturb the communal harmony. They want any peace," said BJP MLA Ashwath Narayan. The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act imposes a blanket ban on the slaughter of the cattle in the state. The only slaughter allowed is of terminally-ill cattle and buffaloes aged above 13 years. Source link Read the full article

Rs 6 crores recovered from house of Karnataka BJP MLA's son
The Lokayukta sleuths raided Prashanth's house immediately after he was caught and continued their operations on Friday.
Tumblr media
BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police have recovered Rs six crore cash from the house of BJP MLA Madaal Virupakshappa's son Prashanth Kumar a day after he was caught taking Rs 40 lakh bribe from a contractor.
According to Lokayukta sources, Prashanth, the chief accounts officer of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, was caught red-handed on Thursday evening while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from a contractor at the Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL) office.
Virupakashappa is the chairman of KSDL and Prashanth was allegedly receiving 'first instalment' of the bribe on behalf of his father, the Lokayukta sources said.
The policemen also found three bags full of cash from the KSDL office.
The Lokayukta sleuths raided Prashanth's house immediately after he was caught and continued their operations on Friday. The Lokayukta sources said on Friday they recovered Rs six crore in cash from Prashanth's house.
Prashanth was caught taking a bribe from a contractor who had supplied chemicals required by the KSDL for soap and detergent production. The MLA's son had demanded Rs 81 lakh and Rs 40 lakh was the first instalment.
The contractor had approached the Lokayukta a week ago and the trap was laid.
CM says trap proves BJP revived Lokayukta
Meanwhile reacting to the arrest, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the trap was proof that the Lokayukta has been revived to contain corruption, unlike the previous Congress regime which created a separate anti-corruption bureau apart from the Lokayukta institution to cover up their wrong deeds.
Due to the lack of a strong Lokayukta in the past, many corruption cases during the Congress regime could never get investigated, Bommai told reporters in Bengaluru.
"We have repeatedly been saying that we will conduct an impartial probe. Our stand, in this case, is also that the independent Lokayukta institution will carry out an impartial investigation and whoever has done wrong will face action. There is no change in our stand," Bommai said.
"All the information and the money found there everything is now with the Lokayukta. Let an independent and justified investigation take place. Our objective is that the truth should come out like whose money it was and for what purpose it was meant," he added.
Regarding Congress state president D K Shivakumar's statement that this incident was proof that the current BJP government is 40 per cent commission government, Bommai said there were many corruption charges against Congress MLAs and ministers but they covered it up by creating the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
He also said many corruption cases during the Congress regime have been given to the Lokayukta, which will investigate and bring out truth.
Alleging that the Congress MLA and former minister K J George had said in the Karnatkaa Assembly that the ACB should continue, the Chief Minister wondered what his intentions were.
"Whose side is he (George)? It's not possible to show off that they were the cleanest people based on this case (Lokayutka trapping MLA's son). There are many cases against them. Cases are being investigated. We will give all the cases to Lokayukta, which they had covered up," Bommai said.

He also told the audience that the content of Gita makes it eternal and universal. Reading Bhagwad Gita and imbibing it in life makes a person fearless, he added. Remove Congress from Roots Says Bommai
On Sunday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai lambasted former CM Siddaramaiah for allegedly enjoying political dividends on the strategies of the Central government during his tenure.
During the Congress regime, Bommai said the rice for the ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but it was filled in sacks and distributed by the then CM Siddaramaiah. “It was a typical ‘Siddaramaiah’s jathra,” he said.

the indian state gets into explicit propaganda via bollywood :)
Urging “everyone to watch the movie”, Chief Ministers of some states even accompanied their family members or colleagues to theatres.
At least six BJP-ruled states have announced to make The Kashmir Files, a film depicting the exodus of the Pandit community from the Valley in the early 90s, tax-free on the fourth day of its release Monday.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath issued instructions to make the movie tax-free. Speaking to The Indian Express, Mavneed Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary information, said,”Orders have been issued to make Kashmir Files tax-free in UP.”
In Madhya Pradesh, policemen will be given special leave to watch the film, Home Minister Narottam Mishra said.
This came a day after CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan exempted the film from entertainment tax, calling it a “heart-wrenching narration of the pain, suffering, struggle, and trauma faced by Kashmiri Hindus in the 90s”.
In Karnataka, BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal announced he will fund one show per day for a week “so that people can watch it free of cost”. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had on Sunday exempted the movie from being taxed.
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, whose government has also granted tax-free status to the film, also watched the movie. He was accompanied by some of his party MLAs. “All that happened in Kashmir at that time should be known to the people,” he said after the show.
Caretaker CM of Goa, Pramod Sawant watched the film at a multiplex in Panaji along with his wife Sulakshana Sawant and state BJP president Sadanand Tanavade. He also invited mediapersons to accompany him.
After the show, Sawant, who said the film would be made tax-free, targeted the Congress, saying: “Some people in Goa had opposed this film and that is why I made it a point to watch it.”
“After watching it I felt that what happened in Kashmir in 1990 should be known to all, especially to today’s youth. The Congress (supported) government in 1990 committed atrocities not only against Kashmiri Pandits but against the people of Kashmir,” he said. The film has also been declared tax-free in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje requested the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government to declare the film tax-free. —With PTI inputs
