Trying to Quit 🚬
The day started calm. One of those quiet Saturdays that smelled like pancakes and warm laundry. Emily Prentiss had woken up with her arm tucked under Y/N's growing belly, their skin warm against hers.
She whispered something about decaf coffee and a foot rub and Emily grumbled a "yes, my love" before slipping out of bed to start the kettle.
They'd been doing better lately, Emily had even gone two months without a cigarette. Y/N, six months pregnant, had asked, begged, really, that she quit.
Emily agreed. The cravings were brutal, but she did. For Y/N. For the baby. But then Elizabeth Prentiss came to town. It started with brunch.
Ended with red wine (for Elizabeth), passive aggressive remarks about legacy and sacrifice, and an hour of Emily being reminded just how little her mother understood her.
By the time Emily walked back into their apartment, her jaw was clenched and her hands were trembling. Y/N was napping on the couch with a folded baby onesie resting on their bump.
Emily stared at them. Then she slipped onto the fire escape with a pack she hadn’t meant to keep, and lit a cigarette with shaking fingers. She didn’t hear the window open.
“Are you serious?!”
Emily spun around, cigarette halfway to her mouth. Y/N stood there in the oversized hoodie she loved, their face a kaleidoscope of disbelief and hurt. “Y/N, it’s just one—”
“You lied to me, Emily.” Their voice cracked, full of raw disappointment. “You said you quit.” Their head shook in disappointment. “I was quitting. But my mother—” Emily tried to ramble.
“This isn’t about her,” Y/N snapped. “This is about us. About our baby. You think I want to sit here growing a life while you slowly poison yourself outside the window?”
Emily stomped out the cigarette, ashamed. “I wasn’t thinking.”
“No,” Y/N said, grabbing their keys. “You never think when it comes to her. You let her get in your head every time.”
“Y/N, wait—please don’t go like this.”
But the door had already slammed behind them.
Y/N drove with trembling hands, not really seeing the road. They were crying, angry crying, and trying not to panic. They didn’t even know where they were going, just that they couldn’t be there.
Not after that. Not while their chest felt like it was splitting open. They turned too sharp. The rain had started. Slick roads, an overcorrection, and a sickening crunch of metal against the passenger side.
Emily’s phone rang thirty minutes later.
Quantico PD.
A minor accident, they said. Y/N was conscious. Taken to the hospital. “Small gash on the forehead. Possibly a fractured wrist. Baby seems fine. But you should come.”
Emily dropped everything.
She burst into the hospital room with wet hair, shaking, eyes darting from monitor to monitor until they found them. Y/N. Pale. Wrapped wrist. Stitches above their left brow.
“God,” Emily whispered, rushing to their side. “I’m so sorry.” Y/N didn’t answer at first. Then, soft: “The baby’s okay.” Emily pressed their hand to her lips.
“I don’t care about the smoking anymore. I’m done. For real. Cold turkey. I threw them out. All of it. You and the baby... you’re everything.”
“You always say that when I’m hurt,” Y/N whispered. “I mean it this time. I swear on every goddamn file in the BAU. You scared the hell out of me.” Emily promised.
Y/N blinked at her, exhaustion etched into every line of their face. Then, finally, they whispered, “We can figure it out.” Emily nodded, placing a trembling kiss against their hand. “We will.”

Two and a Half Months Later...
The birth was long. Loud. Emotional. The baby arrived at 3:42 a.m., red-faced and full of life, already kicking. A girl. Ten fingers, ten toes and a surprisingly strong grip.
Emily stood at Y/N’s bedside, their baby in her arms, breathing her in like she was made of redemption. “She has your nose,” Y/N said tiredly, head back on the pillow.
“And your lungs,” Emily added. “She came out screaming like she knew Congress was listening.” They laughed, both of them teary-eyed.
Emily leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to Y/N’s temple. “No more cigarettes.” The Chief had muttered, Y/N looking to her with hope, “Promise?”
“I quit the day I almost lost you,” Emily whispered. “And now I have everything I need.” Y/N blinked up at her, brushing a thumb along Emily’s jaw.
“She’s got a hell of a team,” they said. “You, me, and no smoke in the air.”
Emily nodded, too excited to hold her child, cradling the baby tighter with a silent promise.

Promises
Vi x Reader (Part Three)
Childhood Friends to…?
Tumblr media
————————————————————
You weren’t going to lose her again.
Before you could act, the sound of a gunshot echoed through the air, followed by another and another, all expertly aimed and managing to not hit Sevika in any real damaging way. Eventually these shots scared Sevika away. Once she had fled the scene, and against your better judgment, you hopped through the rubble wall and sprinted towards Vi.
“Vi?” You whispered again, as you kneeled to the side of the woman. She looked up at you, a smile graced her face slightly through the pain as she tried to almost play off her clearly awful wound.
“Hey Sunshine.” She greeted quietly, a short exhale leaving her as she tried to move up against the wall behind her. You gently grabbed her arm to attempt to help her up against it as you stared at her, taking in every new feature.
“You came back, You really came back.” You mumbled slightly, still unable to believe that she was truly sitting right in front of you.
“I promised, didn't I?” She answered through her pain clouded vision as she continued to hold her torso.
“I- I thought you had died or-“ Before you continued, you looked down at her hand, remembering that she had been stabbed. Luckily you knew just where to take her to get help. You shook your head of all the thoughts that flew every which way in your mind, all the questions you wanted to ask. Right now, the most important thing was Vi’s safety. You quickly stood up, offering your hand, a slight smile on your face.
“Let’s get you fixed up, you are not showing your face just to disappear again.” You offered lightheartedly as you kept your eyes on her. She looked up at you, appreciating your attempt at a joke as she took your hand allowing you to hoist her up and helping her lean on your shoulders.
Just as you were going to begin walking you heard the sound of someone else walking up behind you. You turned slightly and noticed a tall woman walking your way as she folded up a gun before storing it on her back.
“Right, Sunshine, this is Cupcake, Cupcake, Sunshine.” Vi very haphazardly introduced, clearly her mind was focused on other things which you couldn’t blame her for. You looked towards the woman with a questioning gaze, she was wearing clothes of someone who lived in Zaun but… clearly she didn’t actually live here. You could tell with one look that she was from topside.
“Nice to meet you, Cupcake.” You said with a smile, not bothering to ask any questions. Perhaps she was just a friend of Vi’s?
“Caitlyn, my name is Caitlyn.” She corrected quickly, clearly unhappy with being called such stupid nickname. You snickered a bit as you turned away, Vi still using you as support.
“Well then, nice shooting Caitlyn.” You complimented as you began to walk towards the place you needed to get Vi back to the way she was. Growing up Vi often needed some sort of medical help, whether it be just regular patching up or several days to recover. It became a running joke that she blocked with her face and you honestly had a hard time arguing with that sentiment even now. Caitlyn followed alongside you both as she looked about at the different sites around you as you made your way to your destination.
“So, what… happened to you?” You finally spoke up after a long bout of silence between the three of you. You looked to Vi who was still holding on strong as she limped against you.
“Oh you know, big explosion, got arrested, then I got let out by Cupcake here, the usual.” She answered sarcastically which caused you to roll your eyes a little before facing back forward. You figured it was for the best, her bleeding out was probably not the best time to talk about traumatic backstories.
After a little time you finally reached the edge of a cliff which just barely supported a tower that seemed to be held up with concepts of stability and a dream. A sign stuck on the front blared a bright purple that was only just bright enough to barely illuminate the surface of the ground. You looked a bit over the edge, seeing how far down it went you turned to Vi.
“I know you think you can parkour your way down there but I seriously think we could just-“ You tried to reason with her, already knowing her thought process. “There’s no time.” She cut you off before pushing off of you and making her way to the edge. Before either you or Cait could manage to stop her she jumped and managed to do more damage to herself then if she had just…
been a little more patient. You swore the words ‘A little pain never hurt’ would be etched on her grave with the way she threw herself about.
You sighed as you made your own way down and made your way over to Vi. You were concerned for her well-being but she kinda did this one to herself. Once again you prop her up against a wall as you waited for the topside girl to catch up.
“Caitlyn, could you go to that shack over there and tell her that she’s been stabbed, she’ll give you exactly what you need.” You instructed to which she nodded, clearly ready to help out in whatever way she could. As she walked away you had forgotten to mention that she would need to make a trade for the serum but you had other issues to focus on.
You moved back up, closer to Vi as you looked over her once again. It was then she finally spoke up.
“What were you doing… in that alleyway with Sevika?” She said quietly as she tried to conserve her energy.
You felt your heart drop. You knew if you told Vi the truth, if you told her you had been willingly working under Silco, she’d lose her mind.
“I was just… out gambling.” You lied, your eyes focused specifically on Vi’s wound. Even though you weren’t looking her directly at her face you could tell she had raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
“You? Gambling? I guess everything has changed.” She muttered sarcastically before wincing slightly.
“You know, you’ve never been all that good at lying, Sunshine.” She said as she continued to apply pressure to her wound.
“Here, let me.” You offered quietly as you then moved to move her hand so you could apply pressure instead to at least give her some sort of rest. A quiet groan of pain left the woman’s lips as you pressed down, immediately causing you to ease up completely.
“I’m sorry, did I-“ Before you could finish your question, she quickly grabbed your arm and lightly pushed down on your hand.
“No, keep it there.” She instructed through the pain. You stared at her, watching as her face cycled through expressions of pain and relief before her eyes fluttered back open and looked just a bit past you. You turned back and realized it was Caitlyn.
“Did you get it?” You asked to which she nodded and tossed you the vial. Without a second thought you turned back to Vi and popped the vial open.
“What exactly… is it?” Cait asked as you tilted the vial towards Vi 's lips with intense concentration.
“No one really knows. Some sort of shimmer concoction.” You responded before pouring just enough into Vi’s mouth and tilting her head to make her swallow it. Your mind would’ve been flooded with thousands of other thoughts had you not been so worried about your friends wellbeing.
It didn’t take much time at all for the concoction to take effect, causing Vi to writhe in pain and pant as it took every ounce of energy out of her.
You continued to hold her face as she went through this, trying to offer any comfort you could manage as you waited for the effect to finish. Once it was done, you let your hands leave her face as you searched her face for any other signs of pain or lasting shimmer effects but she seemed fine.
“You okay?” You asked, watching as she propped herself back up, almost as if she had never gotten stabbed.
“Never better.” She replied before sitting up fully, she then looked back towards you and repeated,
“What were you doing in that alleyway with Sevika?”
“Vi, you just got stabbed and that’s what you're worried about?” You asked, rolling your eyes before she quickly replied,
“Well when you were with the person who stabbed me, yeah I think I deserve to be a little worried.”
You sighed knowing she wasn’t going to let it go. You closed your eyes as you braced for her reaction as you spoke your next words,
“I work with her… sort of.” You admitted, now hesitantly opening your eyes once again to see Vi who’s face shifted from shock to pure anger.
“So you’re working for Silco?” She practically hissed as she quickly stood up. She kept her eyes locked on to yours as she stood above you.
“Yeah but-“
“What do you mean, ‘but’? Do you understand what he’s done? What he’s continuing to do to people and you’re working with him?”
“Vi it’s not like-“
“All this time away and I come back to find you went to stand by the man who stood against Vander. Did he mean nothing to you?”
“I didn’t have a choice, okay?” You finally managed to speak up which got Vi to finally take pause and stop her angry rant at you. You continued,
“You all were all I had. I had no one else to go to, everyone I Cared about disappeared in a day, a night even, and I had nothing to keep me alive. I needed money, and can you guess who happens to be in charge of every job from one side of Zaun to the other?” You asked in a sarcastically angry tone as you looked at Vi, expecting her to answer.
“Silco.” She said quietly
“Ding, ding, ding, that is correct!” You said in an equally sarcastic tone as before.
“You seriously think I would work with him without a second thought? You think it doesn’t eat at me every single day that I go into work that everything I once found comfort in is gone?” You spoke, now finally standing as well as you looked towards Vi once again.
“I often thought I saw you running through the halls or hearing you laugh, sometimes I even heard Vander when I’d be cleaning up peoples dishes.” You admitted, thinking back to the times where you fully paused during your work to do a double take wondering if you truly did see Vi or hear Vander. It was painful but it slowly just became a part of your life and now that one of them was actually standing before you was still a serrai feeling you hadn’t yet quite grasped.
“I’m not stupid Vi. I was just trying to survive.” You said, as you looked over from her to the topside girl who was just standing and taking in every ounce of your little argument. You knew she could never understand the extent of what you as a Zaunite had to go through, but you could tell there was good in her. How much good was a different question in its own right.
Before Vi could speak up, a noise came from outside the area the three of you had been hiding out in. Vi was the first to walk out followed by you and Caitlyn. As you walked out, you laid your eyes upon none other than Silco in all his glory.
“Ah, I see you’ve met my friend.” Silco said in a dangerously jolly voice as he looked towards you. It was clear he didn’t think that highly of you, he was just using you to taunt Vi.
“Sevika informed me of the stunt you pulled.” He said as his hands dangled the coals of fluorescent shimmer in front of the addicted victims that surrounded him.
“It’s a shame really, Jinx had a soft spot for you but, I guess that won’t matter now.” He spoke which caused Vi to turn to you,
“You know where my sister is? How much shit are you keeping from me?” She asked, bewildered and almost… disgusted that it seemed you were more on Silco’s side than hers.
“I was getting there but you kind of interrupted me.” You argued, turning back to face Silco.
“Oh how secrets can destroy that of which we hold dear to us.” Silco taunted, his hands still teasing the shimmer to the people around him before he finally let them loose and let them have what they had been pleading for.
“So sad to see something so precious be destroyed so easily. It’s a shame you won’t have time to fix it back up.” He noted confidently as the people around him began to mutant and shift into bigger, more deformed versions of themselves. You subconsciously took a step back as you looked at the creatures before you. Sure you had heard about what shimmer did to people but you had never once seen it in person.
You looked from Silco to Caitlyn who had already begun trying to hit the unstable tower behind you all down, but her shoulder slams just weren’t enough. You then looked to Vi who seemed to have already gotten the message as she squared up to fight.
“You talk too much.”

Ah Duo lowkey has one of the most frustrating situations you would be in. Imagine being the milk sibling of the crown prince and he makes you his wife even though you dream of leaving the palace and becoming a merchant. But I guess it’s okay because he seems to love you (?) and who are you to refuse a prince.
BUT THEN YOU LOSE YOUR WOMB GIVING BIRTH. You’re considered useless for the time period and you’re constantly in fear for your child’s life after seeing the treatment you received during your birth. But it’s okay your son is alive and the crown prince still loves you (ig) and keeps you as his wife despite your inability to bear more children.
You make a decision to swap your babies with your mother in law and she agrees. But the boy in your hands now has died, having formed a deep connection over the months spent together despite him not being your son. You carry this guilt of being grateful that it wasn’t your son who suffered his fate.
You and the crown prince more or less become more like friends than lovers and you live out the rest of your days in the inner court, forever confined inside, only being able to see your child from a distance.
Your husband is now the emperor but you’re not the empress. He has started taking other consorts and you just want to leave as you see your duties to already be done. Then your grown son now becomes a “eunuch” in the palace. To see him almost everyday but not being able to treat him like a son and tell him that you’re his mother.
Everyone in courts seems to want you out, seeing you as a useless consort who can’t bear children and somehow you’re content with the idea of leaving. Your son is safe and you finally leave, yet somehow still chained to your previous life.
It’s a life no one can escape.
Even in the light novels it’s clear that the emperor still hold some sort of affection towards Ah-Duo, but I just know she must feel like a caged bird, forever forced to play role she did not want or believe she wasn’t born to fulfill.
And now she’ll stop it from happening again to her son and Maomao. Even if it means having Yang break his promise to her. Hell, he broke the first one so why not break the second one. Just to make sure her son could be happy. 😭😭😭

Promises
Promises
Magic
One can do much with a promise
One can move mountains
One can move souls
One can break fragile things
How many promises broken in these many long, laborious years
How many ideas shattered
The man who can promise only pain wields weapons for hands
These hands mend, but one can only mend the broken
These hands break, to mend
Promises
Broken and many

10,000 Emerald Pools (Merman Gantu x Chubby Reader)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All his life he had been told legends of the two legs. They were selfish and evil creatures. Only looking out for themselves. That was what he had thought. Until you saved him from a storm that is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi guys, I'm back at it again. I finally decided to hop on a trend. Being inspired by MerMay on Tumblr, I just had to whip something up for a mermaid. After that decision it wasn't hard to land on Gantu. I mean who doesn't love a big grumpy shark man.
Anywho, I hope you enjoy.
---------------------------------------------------------
You had accepted that life as lighthouse keeper would be a lonely one. It was a lot to spend months at a time with only one other person for companionship. But as you watched the senior keeper hurry to pack his things. You couldn't stave away the wave of loneliness crashing into you. It swallowed you and churned around in your head. A storm of uncertainty brew in your subconscious.
He glanced your way with guilt weighing heavy in his eyes. He wished it didn't have to be this way. He really did. Though with the news of his wife's early labor and premature newborn. He couldn't bare to stay another moment on the island.
So being a person with a moral compass you shook off his concern. “No, really, I understand. Your family comes first.” Even as the words left your lips, the weight became greater on your shoulders. Could you handle this alone? Sure you had went through the proper training. But where would those lesson go when a high stress situation happened. Would you jump into action or freeze in fright?
As if sensing your apprehension, he placed a well worn hand on your shoulder. “Look, I know your green to all this. But I saw your marks, your no idiot. A sharp mind is the best tool you can have out here.” With a reassuring pat he continued to gather his things.
It didn't take long to see him off to one of the row boats. They weren't the most glamorous, but they still got you to the mainland. Settling himself in, after loading, he faced you. “Take care not to linger at the water's edge for to long. Never to sure what could be lurking.” Then he was off. Leaving a hard lump to settle in your stomach at his unsettling warning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Relaxing into the gentle current of the ocean, he scanned the horizon. If there was one thing he enjoyed about his job, it was the patrol duty. While the title of Captain held a lot of responsibility. It was the smaller tasks that he appreciated. A leisurely swim while checking the surrounding area was always a joy.
Though what really kept this mundane task in his schedule. It had to be the land creature watching. While a boat was a pleasent treat to come across. There was particular land mass with a large shining tower that he chanced by.
It was a storm that caused him to seek out any shelter. The water was far to shallow to find comfort from the choppy waves. Happening upon a wooden structure attached to land was the solace he found. After what felt like a life time, the sea finally settled. Allowing him a moment to breathe and give thanks to his impromptu haven. Only to find himself amazed at the marvel before him. He had never come across such a sight. The tall tower upon the island a beckon of shining comfort.
Vowing to keep this amazing find to himself. It soon became a part of his patrol route. And his surprise doubled when he noticed the two legs lived in the very thing that had saved him. He had seen a few different being over his years as a soldier. But took great care to not be spotted by them. It was protocol to not reveal yourself to the two legs. There had been a few past incidents that didn't end well for either party. So he made sure to avoid sightings at all cost.
At least that was the plan….
~~~~~~~~~~
The storm had swept in suddenly. The barometric pressure shifting, bringing with it fierce winds and a flood of rain. You stared out the ground floor window nervously. The last row boat swayed dangerously. Looking as if it would go under at any moment.
Not being able to take the risk of loosing your only way off the island. You hurried to throw on your raincoat and a pair of slosher.
Flinging the door open, you took care to shut it firmly. It wouldn't do to flood the entryway in your hurry. Trudging through the downpour, you headed straight for the dock. Squinting you could just make out the wooden platform. As the sheets of rain seeped into you clothes, even with the coat on. You couldn't help but feel that the boat was much further than you remembered it. Still if you didn't make your way over and anchor it properly until the storm subsided. Then you would have to hope for your senior keeper to return…or get busy swimming. Neither option seemed ideal when alone on an island.
Finally reaching the ropes attaching the boat to the dock, you sigh heavily. They were tied more tightly than you remembered. It made you wonder if Joel had redone them before his departure. Maybe it was his way of make it up to you. Double checking the knots, you deemed them storm worthy.
Shaking your head, you let your thoughts drift to a warm shower. Before you could make your way back to the lighthouse. There was a sudden banging sound from the boat. Turning back, you crept towards the dingy.
Splayed in the small yet sturdy vessel was a sight unheard of. What you could only guess was a merman. Due to them being man yet fish. Was battered and bruised, half slumped in the boat.
Your head was spinning and heart hammering. Taking a tentative step forward, you jolted as it heaved a shuddering breath. In a moment you came to a decision. A stupid decision really. Knowing that you couldn't let this creature's death weigh on you. You proceeded to get the most intense workout of your life. You could only hope that it wasn't prone to violence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had never understood the person who designed this lighthouse. While it had the expected features. Such as the huge Fresnel lens on the top of the house. As well as the fog horn and radio station. But the large claw foot tub had always thrown you for a loop.
Now as you heaved the beast of a creature you had decided to become responsible for. You couldn't help but sing their praises. Because without the oversized tub, you wouldn't have a place to store the behemoth.
Settling it in, you made sure to curl all of it's limbs in the large vessel. It took you longer than you would have admitted. Though you just chalked it up to your exhaustion from getting the being inside. Trying not to focus on it's size. Even if the voice in your head was shouting the fact.
That task done, you decided that water was important to it's health. What with the fins and all. Turning on the tap, you took a moment to calm your racing heart. Shucking off what wet clothing you could, without becoming indecent. You grabbed a nearby towel and began drying your sopping hair. Changing seemed like it was a bit lower on the list of priorities. With the catch of the century sitting right beside you. So a quick dry off would have to do.
Rubbing the cloth over your hair, your gaze shifted back to the creature. The dark grey coloring of it's skin was a fascinating shade. You couldn't quite decide if it was more blue or black in tone. Either way it seemed to suit the large creature's features.
Curiosity got the better of you as you pried one of it's eyes open. A gasp left your lips. They were as beautiful as the sea on a calm day. The deepest depths of blue you had ever witnessed.
Then your fingers trailed over it's face. Taking in the texture of the being's skin. It was smooth, with a firm bounciness. Smoothing your digits over their lips. You were surprised by the supple give they had. The feather like touch cause it's mouth to raise in a half snarl. Revealing the much to large for their mouth teeth. Sharp as a knife and longer than your fingers.
You flinched away from the creature. Realizing just how dangerous your exploration really was. This wasn't a known entity. You shouldn't be so easy to trust that you were safe.
Though the same voice that had convinced you to bring them in. Couldn't help but whisper how special they were.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You stay by their side for two days. Between eating, sleeping, and tending to you lighthouse duties. You always managed to find your way back to the side of the tub. After the third visit, turned check up. You resigned yourself to dragging a chair in and plopping next to the submerged creature.
You reasoned with yourself that you had to keep an eye on it's wounds. Wincing anytime you had to change the reddening bandage on it's tail. While most of the wounds it sustained were bruising or bumps. A large gash along the tail fin concerned you. It wasn't necessarily hanging off the tip, but it wasn't far from it. It seemed to be healing, though you weren't sure how long the recovery would take.
You couldn't help but admire the scars and blemishes that decorated his skin. It made you wonder how he would feel about the new mark. Would it be a decoration or a flaw. Even so, you studied them with a longing to know their stories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the evening of that second day that you started to really worry. While the creature seemed comfortable enough crammed inside to ornate tub. You hadn't seen any signs of the behemoth waking soon. Pacing between the fish person and the door, you wondered who you could even get help from.
His eyes shot open as a fresh hot shot of pain darted up his spine. Gathering his thoughts, he groaned. The last thing he could remember was that sudden storm. He knew his past sanctuary was nearby. So without a second thought he took off. Only to be battered by the relentless waves. Launched into the wooden pillars he had sought out. Then nothing.
With great effort, he shifted himself around the vessel he was contained in. The room was as unfamiliar as the two leg pacing around it. He would have found himself in more of a shock. If he wasn't so entrance by your beauty. Your curves seemed to go for miles. A plethora of bountifully plush flesh. As you worried your thumb with a supplely soft mouth. He let out an unintentional gasp.
Causing you to whirl around, almost slipping to the floor in your haste. Catching yourself on the edge of the tub, you sagged in relief. “Thank goodness you're awake. I was so worried you were in a coma or something. I don't know who I would have went to if….” You trailed off as the creature stared at you.
He couldn't believe it. You, a two leg, was worried about him. This was all to much. Shaking his head, he attempted to gather his thoughts. “Did you bring me here?”
The deep baritone of their voice shook you to your core. You had only questioned if it was hostile. Not if you could communicate with one another. “I, uh, yes.” Wow, such an elegant answer. But this wasn't the time for self depreciation. “I went to check on the boat. Hoping the storm hadn't dragged it away. It didn't, thankfully, but you were thrown in it. You were pretty banged up and the storm wasn't letting up. So I dragged you in here.” You would have felt like you were rambling again. If not for the intensity that it was listening to you with. As if every word held the answers to all their problems.
You really were mesmerizing. Your melodious voice and your habit of gesturing as you spoke. It captivated him. And you had saved him. For that he was bound to you. Nodding he placed a hand on top on yours as they gripped the tub. “I am Gantu, Captain of the Underwater Federation. Thank you for your help and generosity. I am now bound to you with a life debt."
Your eyes widened at the introduction and admition. “A what now?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After convincing the reluctant merman to heal a bit longer. You weren't sure if you were glad or not. Sure being able to talk to him was great. But if you had to rebuke one more offer of some ridiculous proportion. You may truly go insane.
He has suggested finding you that largest pearl in the sea. When you declined he claimed that a battle with the Kraken would be satisfactory. Once again you said no. Then he suggested overthrowing a kingdom and making you a monarch. And that was only a few of his attempts. It was ridiculous the lengths he was going to try to repay the life debt.
After his tail had heal enough to be sea worthy again you were met with a new problem. How to get him back to the dock. His pride wouldn't allow you to help him a second time. But his wounds weren't completely healed. So you did the only thing that you could think of. Dragging down the cart that was used to move around the large equipment upstairs. A task that you didn't ever want to repeat. Including avoiding thoughts of having to lug it back up the tower.
While it may be large enough for equipment in a lighthouse. He still seemed to make it look small. After reassuring him that it was the state of the art transportation device. That you would have no part in helping him use it. Only then did he relented and hoisted himself onto it. And it worked like a charm.
You would have guessed that the uneven terrain would be an issue. But his muscles seemed to be just as large as the rest of him. Your gaze rolled slowly over the buldge of his biceps. Watching as they flex and become taut as he pulls himself towards the water.
Realizing that your glance had turned into staring. You shook yourself from the gawking and followed after him.
He stares longingly at the sea. He hadn't known how much he missed the small details. The salty breeze whipping softly against his face. The sound of the waves gently lapping at the shore. He couldn't wait until he could be submerged once again.
That is until you settled beside him. All of his thoughts focused on you. The way the wind caused your hair to flutter around your soft face. Admiring the way a gentle smile graced your face as you gazed out at the horizon. Seeing how relaxed your plush body was around the languid waves.
He wouldn't have guessed that a two legs would save one of his kind. But after meeting you he knew their must be more to your species than the legends told.
It caused an odd tugging inside his chest to know he was leaving your side. Though his smile returned as he remembered that this wouldn't be your last meeting.
Holding the handle of the cart, you allowed him to slid back into the sea. “Are you sure that you're well enough to swim?” For as overbearing as he could be. You didn't want to send him to his death.
His large sharp tooth grin sent a shiver down your spin. “Of course two legs. I was made a Captain for a reason.”
Rolling your eyes at the behemoth you shook your head. There was that cocky side of his. “Well, I guess this is goodbye.” You didn't think that sentence would hold so much weight to it. Almost wishing you hadn't let the words leave your mouth. But you were surprised when he shook his own head.
“Far from it little one. There is still a debt to be paid.” He was happy to see the smile return to your face.
Sitting down on the edge of the dock, you raised an eyebrow at him. “How about we make a deal?” You paused and was surprised when he patiently waited for you to continue. “Why don't you make regular visits and keep me company. That way I don't have to go to long without seeing my favorite shark guy.”
His grin widened and he placed a hand over your own soft one. “That would be an acceptable start. Especially for one such as yourself.”
Your cheeks quickly became flush. You weren't sure if it was from the gesture or words his smooth baritone echoed. Placing a soft hand over his own, you gather your thoughts. It would be lonely without the big lug. And you'd be lying to yourself if you didn't admit to admiring his rugged features.
Taking a leap of faith, you leaned forward. He met your lips without hesitation. It was a different sensation than eother of you were used to. But pleasent all the same. You both enjoyed yourselves for a selfish moment. Knowing that while you had duties to return to. This moment was well worth the risk.
Pulling away from your plush mouth, he winked. Flipping back into the sea, he sent a large spray of water your way. Sputtering you shook the water from your eyes and laughed.
A loud bellow met your giggles. “Expect me back soon little one.” His promise was one that he meant to keep. Life debt or not, there wasn't a power in the sea that could keep him from returning to your side.
