Yesterday was an extremely restless day—not agonizingly restless, just restless, maybe I’ll tell you about it soon. Above all, I had your telegram and there was something special about walking around with it in my pocket. There is a particular human kindness which people do not realize exists. For in- stance I’m walking toward the Czech Bridge, and I take out the telegram and read it (it’s always new; once it has been read, absorbed, the paper is empty—but as soon as it’s back in my pocket it is immediately rewritten). Then I look around, expecting to see mean faces; not exactly envy, but nonetheless faces that say: “What? You of all people received this telegram? We’ll have to report this higher up at once. At the very least, flowers (an armful) will be sent to Vienna right away. In any case, we are determined not to simply accept the telegram unchallenged.” But instead of this, all is calm as far as the eye can see: the fishermen go on fishing, the onlookers go on looking, the children are playing soccer, the man at the bridge is collecting his kreuzers. If you look a little more closely you can detect a certain nervousness, as people force themselves to concentrate on what they’re doing, so as not to betray any of their thoughts. But it is precisely this which makes them so lovable, this voice which comes out of the whole, saying: “It’s all right, the telegram belongs to you, we agree, we’re not questioning your right to receive it, we’ll just look the other way, and you can keep it for yourself.” And when I take it out again a little later, you’d think they’d be annoyed that I don’t at least keep quiet and hide myself—but they’re not annoyed, they remain as they were.

Cover of the day: Day 17: 1890-93 Austrian Mint Postal Card
Hello again! I'm slowly running out of interesting covers to post, that doesnt mean I don't have any more, I'll have to go dig out more from the box in my closet. I also just bought a few more (interesting) covers from E-Bay so expect some better covers in a few weeks!
---
Today's cover was sent... (You already know what I'm talking about so I'll just skip to the interesting bits) It was issued somewhere between 1890 and 1893(When The Austrohungarian Empire switched from the Gulden or Florin to the Krone), By The Austrian Empire specifically for use in Slovenia (Then called Carniolia), I can tell this because it says "Slov." on the bottom and its in German and Slovene.
The Indicium has a value of 2 Austrian Kreuzers (1/50th of a Gulden/Florin), and a portrait of then emperor Franz Joseph I (1848-1916).
I also have a different mint Austrian postal card in Slovenian from the 1880s
I don't have anything else to say, so here's the cover.

I couldn’t sleep last night and because I’m insane I decided to write down every named character in Shoukoku no Altair that I could think of. After some revision I’ve come to a total of 220 individuals (although two particular names both belong to one person). You can find the complete alphabetical list below. How many do you recognise? If you can think of any I’ve missed, I’ll be impressed!
Also I didn’t include Burak Pasha because we only know his title, not his name.

The Berkel Scale. For residents of Vienna, chances are they will walk right past these, without as much as giving them a second look. Not so with us tourists. Anything and everything that is out of the ordinary catches our fancy. Like these coin operated street scales called Berkel Scales. And while there are barely around a 100 odd scattered throughout the city, especially around subway stations and intersections, they have a fascinating history. As far back as 1887 actually, when they were first shown as part of the 40th anniversary of Kaiser Franz Josef's ascent to the Austrian empire throne. Some of the early scales also featured a mirror. Initially, it would cost you 3 Kreuzer to weight yourself. These were of course coins used during the Habsburg reign and had a cross, or kreuz, on them. Hence the name Kreuzer. While these scales had their glory days immediately after the war, by the late 70s, attitudes had changed, and so had the need to check one's weight in public. As more and more residents turned to the privacy of their homes to weight themselves, street scales also started to disappear. Thankfully though, the Berkel Scales remain. Though rarely used, they no longer accept Kreuzer or Schilling, but instead Euro cents. So should you have the urge to see how much you have gained after a hearty meal of Wiener Schnitzel, you can do so. For a small fee, of course. ________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ Feel Austria 🇦🇹 @visitaustria #feelaustria #visitaustria @viennatouristboard #ViennaNow #ViennaGoForIt _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #weightwatchers #weighingscales #retro #vintage #berkel #berkelwaage #berkelscale #scale #weight #afterdinner #berkel #berkelscale #berkelscales #vienna #wien #austria #sterreich #igersvienna #wienliebe #igersaustria #wienstagram #viennagram #visitvienna #viennaaustria #viennablogger (at Vienna, Austria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG4Lb-gM1Ck/?igshid=1h19neanqzuli
