I am watching "Outlander" for the first time and both my girlfriend and I are absolutely appalled by Roger MacKenzie. In my eyes he is the epitome of the toxic 'good-guy' syndrome. The type of guy that always paints himself as the victim, and manipulates the narrative to fit his own narcissistic world views. I had never encountered a male romantic lead that I hate this much. The fact that "Outlander" depicts the Roger / Bree as a romance as one we should root for is outrageous. #FreeBree.

I removed the flag not only in defiance of those who enslaved my ancestors in the southern United States, but also in defiance of the oppression that continues against black people globally in 2015, including the ongoing ethnic cleansing in the Dominican Republic. I did it in solidarity with the South African students who toppled a statue of the white supremacist, colonialist Cecil Rhodes. I did it for all the fierce black women on the front lines of the movement and for all the little black girls who are watching us. I did it because I am free.

Incredible. Met breenewsome years ago when we screened her film Wake at New Voices in Black Cinema in New York. Great filmmaker, great lady. 

Have watched her take a stand for justice and human rights over these past few years, and until now a lot of her work has gone unnoticed. 

Apparently sometimes it takes a more extreme act to get the world’s attention and actually create change. 

Soul stirring to see her recite Psalm 27 as she committed this peaceful, organized act.
