If the Tadaima, Okaeri babies remind you of Gakuen Babysitters, their voice actresses were in that anime.

Tadaima, Okaeri Episode Six Review :)
Tumblr media
Photo Credit: Tadaima, Okaeri Promotional Twitter Account
A gutsy reality-check soup chicken
This episode served to clarify most of Masaki's history. I have to be quite frank, I really did not think that Masaki had a troubling or traumatic childhood or upbringing. During the final minutes of episode five, when Masaki invited Hiromu to meet/visit Ma-chan's uncle, I thought it was just like another troublesome boring trip you take to your relatives, ya know? Boy, was I wrong.
I know I don't do this for my recap essay for Tadaima, Okaeri, however I think I need to use my BL review practice for this episode, so here it goes, I have two themes I want to talk about for this episode.
Masaki's Childhood
Let me first outright say, What in Sweet Home Alabama was happening that Ma-chan was engaged to Kazuhiko Ogiwara? Kazu-chan is Ma-chan's cousin.
Now that's out of the way. This was my understanding before I watched this episode: a). Ma-chan was born as an omega from beta heterosexual parents, b). Ma-chan was always pitied by anyone who encountered him when he was a kid because of his status as an omega. c). Ma-chan's parents are utterly apologetic to the extent that they often apologize to Ma-chan for letting him be born as an omega.
I never really processed that Masaki's childhood was painful, excruciating, to him.
I think what I could infer from the episode was that my B point - to what extent Ma-chan's parents are willing to protect their son - goes way beyond just maybe making Masaki a bubble boy 2.0. It even went as far as practically imprisoning Masaki.
During the confrontation scene between Kazu-chan and Masaki, Kazuhiko said,
"You haven't come home once, since the stuff with your parents?"
I was confused. Did Masaki have a huge falling-out scene with his parents? But then I remembered the conversation between Masaki and Yuki about what happened between Masaki and his parents. It seemed that Masaki just jetted out of his old folks' house to attend university and get his degree. What was his parents' plan for Masaki exactly? I don't quite understand what omegas are supposed to do in the omegaverse, but it's weird that the parents would just let Masaki be a house mouse or something? Why would they predestine omega people like that? It's still puzzling and I need to understand more about omegaverse.
At first, I was confused as to what the point of Kazu-chan's meeting with Hiromu and Masaki was. Then, when Kazu-chan stormed out of the room and berated Masaki, I got even more confused. Bro, did you really fall that hard for Masaki that you got this mad that he has a husband and a family? I really doubt that Kazu-chan even liked Masaki because Ma-chan kept saying about how Kazuhiko was that mean to Masaki. However, Kazuhiko's rant and Hiromu's late, in my opinion, defense of Masaki really crystallized the tension between Kazu-chan, Masaki's parents-family, and Masaki.
Masaki's parents-family's overprotective behaviors against Masaki were done to protect Masaki. They believed that Masaki was really frail to the point that the whole world was going to harm him. They designated Kazuhiko as Masaki's protector. Hence, during Kazu-chan's rant, he kept insisting, on something to the effect of
"You chose to live in the hostile world, and then you came back with [mate] mark..."
Hiromu's counter-argument about how Masaki's parents-family overemphasis on Masaki's status is the thing that harmed Masaki the most.
I really love that Yuki was ready to throw some hands during the rant haha.
It still confused me as to why omegas are discriminated against or prejudged to that extent. However, I understand the idea of being underestimated or left - laughed - out of the equation just because of your status, because of the lack of your supposed destined talents.
I'm sending all my love to Masaki, love you boo ^^
Mating in the Omegaverse
I only have read three omegaverse mangas to completion, my favorite one, The Marriage of a Doting Alpha and a Stray Omega I think explained it well about this theme. When Goro and Ichi got married, Ichi was trying his best to put the idea of "mating" away from his head because he thought that Goro only married him for Ichi's protection. They seemed to picture being mates as something more permanent and profound compared to being married. I remember a scene in which Ichi met one of his unhoused acquaintances? and she noticed the absence of a mating mark on the lower neck part of Ichi's body. Of course, in the end, Ichi and Goro eventually became mates.
I think I really need to understand the mechanism more. Masaki and Hiromu are mates, great for them. I need to know how Masaki and Hiromu got to the point of agreeing to become mates. I frankly want to see how the action of becoming mates is. How can it leave a very distinct lasting mark?
It was such a great reality-check episode for me. Watch it yall :D

Tadaima, Okaeri Ep 8 Stray Thoughts
Last week, the rude cousin apologized for his behavior after being soundly embarrassed by Hiromu, Yuki, and then later Hikari. Masaki managed to take his family to visit his parents' grave and hear his mom's last letter. Returning home, we experienced the hilarity and joys of Hikari's first solo errand. Hijinks ensued as they tried to support him. However, our hero succeeded at bringing Masaki and Hinata an umbrella at the bus stop.
Amazing! Hikari is in love with the new dog in the neighborhood, but is scared of the dog.
Every week I am floored by how well Masaki and Hiromu parent together. There is no jealousy about their kids between them.
Masaki hasn't been able to help Hikari, but Hiromu managed to talk him through it. I love that none of it is easy but Hikari is brave and responds to Hiromu's belief in him.
Hiromu is so funny. He intentionally almost called Kazuhiko a brat to troll him.
I like the uncle being so happy to see Masaki and his family. We know that there we difficulties before, and the show gets to borrow from the work they did with the Fujiyoshi family to not have to retread that here.
Hiromu has such a clear perspective that allows for people to move on. Life is the future, not the past.
Curious where we go with Hinata looking so much like Masaki, and if we have deal with the omega stuff there.
I also love that every episode has the dads getting frisky with each other. I love that their romantic and sexual relationship has continued into parenthood.
Absolutely perfect ending place. Hikari has managed to connect with a dog he was afraid of, the cousin he didn't like, and now might make a friend his own age.
Every week I love this show more. They find new ways to make the family adorable. I haven't had a comfort watch this reliable in so long.
