I was curious - who are your top ten favourite characters through all of the Star Trek series and why? I really enjoy your art, great job! It's always exciting when your stuff comes up on the dash because it's just *that good* and another thrilling installment!

First of all, thanks a lot !! It always makes me super happy when I hear people are excited about my art :D

And uh.. Oh that’s a tough one. I could easily tell you my fave character for each show, but an overall top 10? Let me think…

1 - Doctor McCoy and Spock

Theses two have been my fave TOS characters since I first watched the show back in 2015. And TOS may not be my favorite Trek anymore, but it will always have this special place in my heart ‘cause I’ve been obsessing over it for so much longer than the other shows (I started watching them back in like September 2020). So yeah Bones and Spock come first. And they’re both number 1 bc I was never able to choose between them and I probably never will

2 - Doctor Bashir 

Hhhh Julian I love him I was part of the Elite Intellectuals who liked him even in the first DS9 season when he was annoying (maybe because him making the worst first impression on his future friends is something I find extremely relatable ? hum). I love his evolution too even if I’m not a fan of the Augment thing. He’s also very cute and hot I want to peg him

3 - Kira Nerys

Kira is hand down the best female character in all of star trek. Episodes focused on her were always interesting, and idk I’ve always loved characters that are very religious (without being zealots) ? Idk why, I’m a strong atheist so it’s super unrelatable to me but it makes me more interested and invested in them for some reason. Anyway she is also super pretty and hot and I love her smile and her voice and I’d let her step on me any day

4 - Tuvok

He’s just really cool and I love Vulcans. And also I think his actor is the only one beside Nimoy (and maybe the second actress who played Saavik) to really perfectly grasp how to play a Vulcan, and that makes him really compelling

5 - Will Riker

I really love this jazz himbo and I absolutely don’t know why ! By all accounts he shouldn’t be my favorite TNG character but for some reason he is

6 - Data

Ahh what could be said about everyone’s favourite android that hasn’t been said. He makes me very emotional for some reason, sometimes he’s so adorable I want to cry and every time something bad happened to him i’m just :’’’(

7 - Shran

This guy probably appear in like 6 episodes total (and I’ve only seen 3 of them so far) but he just carries Enterprise so much. He just makes the show 10 times better every time he walks on screen.he’s also played by Jeffrey Combs which gives him a bonus

8 - Q

Also a guys who steals the show every time he shows up. Less than shran tho but just because TNG is really much more solid than Ent. He’s just so damn fun

9 - Dukat

Ohh boy this is gonna piss off some people. But listen this guy is by far the best Trek villain. He’s ridiculously charismatic and makes every scene he’s in super entertaining no matter how wonky the writting is. It’s hilarious watching him getting in the most ridiculous situations but he can still be threatening when needed. He’s definitely an interesting character, he’s a gigantic asshole but as a character I just can’t hate him. Also, as many of you are aware, i’m a lizardfucker... so there’s that

10 - Worf

That’s it that’s just worf what else is there to say. I love this dude i’m so happy he got to be on both TNG and DS9

Honorable mentions who almost made it to the list : The EMH, Quark, Seven of Nine, Malcom Reed, Jadzia Dax, Captain Picard

Anyway that’s all I have sorry for the long post lol, I realise that my reasons for liking theses characters are always something like “I just love them and also i’m horny” but hey. When I love something I don’t always have a good explanation as to why okey

season 4 episodes 18 & 19:

oh my god, the first contact music 💗😭

the opening sequence to the enterprise mirror universe eps really is inspired. i also like to imagine the composer metaphorically tossing it down on a table in front of all the fans who’ve been complaining for four years like “HERE’S YOUR FUCKING INSTRUMENTAL OPENING THEME” and storming out

i’ve been breaking up the discovery recaps because there are 19 concurrent plots and i’m trying to keep them straight, but i feel like a stream-of-consciousness bullet point experience is appropriate here:

those of you watching today will never know the special delight that mirror captain forrest brought to internet nerd fans back in the day. the site television without pity used to write snarky tv show recaps, and keckler, who wrote the enterprise recaps week to week, decided early on that admiral forrest was such a boring character that he must be evil -- and so after 3-some years of calling him “evil admiral forrest,” him showing up in the mirror universe was like prophecy coming to pass

mirror phlox and reed developed the agonizer booth!

apparently non-terran rebellions against the empire are a recurring concern

mirror!travis is REAL hot

they’re all hot but travis? with that earring? and that hair? dang.

i think we can all agree that phlox is the creepiest mirror version, just casually performing live vivisections of random animals with a smile 😬

i’m glad discovery went the full-on sexy leather uniform route instead of just slapping some pins and patches on the existing uniform style and putting the ladies in crop tops

mirror!t’pol going through pon farr (and ~ahem~ asking trip to help her out) raises my continuing question about how and when pon farr affects female vulcans

does it just kick in at some point, like with vulcan men? is it connected to their bond-mate? should i be worried about tuvok’s wife is what’s behind my question

mirror archer is such a hopeless disaster and hoshi very obviously like “wow... those orgasms... so great... 🙄” really gives me life

on-screen text falls into the “canon if i feel like it” zone as far as i’m concerned, but i love that archer’s profile starts with: “charming, bold,”

apparently he was the starfleet chief of staff, the ambassador to andoria, and the president!! of the federation!!!!

disaster mirror archer hallucinating prime!archer is an entire thing i’m not even sure how to deal with

a cgi gorn was a bad call from start to finish. this isn’t a 16 years on thing. they did their best, but it was ridiculous then too. 

shakespeare’s plays are “equally grim in both universes”

archer parading around the shuttlebay of the admiral’s nx-01 ship, making a dramatic speech to about 18 people all looking either bored or concerned. i love that they chose to make this entire episode about what a clown mirror archer is

those 18 people include two vulcans, an andorian, a denobulan, and an orion, and we saw a tellarite officer earlier. during this period in history there are a significant number of aliens serving on starfleet ships -- as opposed to Just T’Pol in the prime universe. they’re all second-class citizens, but they hold officer ranks. in the discovery era, i don’t think we see any non-terrans holding military positions. 

okay actually given that they successfully take over a ship i can see why that policy doesn’t last

i have a specific desire to see t’pol with hyper realistic disco spock style ears

i love that even mirror hoshi protects phlox 🥺

i would like to thank the director of this episode for the artistic decision to only show archer and hoshi hooking up in silhouette form

TWO SPACE SUITS AND A BETTER DATA

Those two action figures came today- Kirk-In-A-Space-Suit and AGT Data. How fun it is to now have TWO of the former. My excitement was tempered a little because I couldn’t find the old action figure’s space helmet. Without it, the whole point in getting two of these action figures is lost.

I wanted to have a bunch of these action figures, how fun it would be to have a horde of these guys scrambling about a damages space station. This was an idea I had for “The Great Unexplored Mass of AFB”- Trent tells the story of the doomed Civil Bend, and there’s flashback like scenes on board a much less luxurious ship- imagine riveted walls, port holes, airlocks, etc.., and guys in space suits desperate to beat back tentacles or arms of... something...

I looked high and low for that helmet. It’s been missing for a while, possibly years. I found it in one of the old gum containers- the containers that are white and larger at the top so they fit just so in a cupholder. I have three of these things full of action figure accessories. Now I have two complete action figures. It will be much easier to create the illusion of many spacesuits with two action figures instead of one, and I can have them interact. Yay, me.

I was actually quite impressed with this Data action figure’s head paint job. Data never quite looked like Data, but they gave him a lighter eye color and it made a world of difference. It really cut down on the... goofiness, but I do wonder why they decided to change the eye color... I suppose since they had to give him a stripe of light gray through the side of his head, the eyes might as well be revised?

MORE PROPS

One of the big reasons I was looking forward to the Data action figure was the props. I don’t remember what it’s supposed to be- a carafe? A vase? Well, it’s a bong now. Or it will be. The script for “Quite the Plot” calls for one, although it’s going to be different from the one in the script. The script, written without any thought or intention of making it an action figure based stop motion video... or just “action figure bullshit”, describes a very elaborate bong with dragons and the works. I prefer to use accessories that came with the action figures, though Rachael and I could very easily make our own with clay and paint. I may still paint Data’s bong candy apple red, or put a little stem on it with a speck of rolled up aluminum foil.

Tuvok never came with that meditation candle. I wish it did because you know that’d be the prop of choice, so I may go with something... actually, there’s something I made in 2013 as an accessory to an action figure sized “sculpture” made of modeling clay. It’d be fun to go get that... if it’s still around, and I have my doubts. I’ll need to coat it with something, though. Modeling clay can stain the action figures. I never found out if it was from the dyes in the clay or some weird reaction with the action figure or its paint, but twice, I had ivory colored action figures (Data, Locutus) turn pink because I put clay on them. What’s weird is that the clay was a purple-grayish color, as I mixed all the colors together long ago, yet it still turned bubble gum pink. I don’t want that to happen again.

I found a few other cool accessories in addition to the helmet. I found some of Maquis Chakotay feathers, which are green and look like... actually, no, they don’t look like that, but they can be part of Tuvok’s special secret stash towards the end of the episode of Quite the Plot...

And I found the coveted UV light thingy, which I want to use as a...

Flowbee!

I’ve thought about redoing the so-called “Flowbee video”. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re not this blog’s targeted audience. Feel free to keep reading, though!

THE CASE FOR THE RETURN OF THE CAMCORDER

Recently, I put all of “Chaos Corridor” onto a video tape. Lo and behold, the stuff done with the old camcorder looks substantially better. What’s horrifying is that it looks BETTER than the stuff at higher resolution. That’s not too surprising. I remember when I first got that camcorder, I was disappointed that the video it made didn’t look as good as my old VHS-C camcorder- at least, that’s how it seemed on analog video. On computer, obviously, it looks better.

Anyway, I thought it’d be cool to do “Better Than Voyager” and an action figure version of the Flowbee video on the old camcorder, in 4:3. Despite advances in technology, the easiest camera to use for stop motion is the old digital camcorder, and since I want to film in full screen to stay in the same aspect ratio as those two videos, I don’t have to dread having to crop that shit into even smaller images. After those videos are made, I’d like to put it on video tape, then put it back on the computer and upload it that way. I looks wonderful, and don’t ask me how or why, it just does. VHS isn’t as bad as people remember.

I’m getting way ahead of myself, though. I have no plans to film anything right now... maybe after summer gets the fuck out.
